I agree with Ruth, Gillian, I am sure she knew you were there, she would have recognised the way you stroke her.

Thank you everyone  :thanks: It really helps to read your kind words and hear of your experiences too. Roz, I know what you mean, I was devastated that her last moments were spent overnight in the oxygen tent and not at home with me, but of course she would have suffered even more if I'd not taken her when I did and there was no way she could come home the state she was in, I don't even know if she knew I was there, I spoke to her and stroked her, I hope she did.

I just can't get those last moments out of my mind, I'm trying so hard to think of  happy times - she was so beautiful, not just in looks, beautiful inside - anyone came to the door, she was there to greet them, if they sat down she was straight on their lap, I loved that confidence she had, and that she was so laid back and easy going, I've not had a cat quite like her before.

I haven't put anything on this thread because there don't seem to be the right words.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Gillian. Gypsy will have known how much you loved her and that to me is one of the most important things.

Have fun at the Bridge, Gypsy.

Hello Gillian,

I am so sorry to read about your dear, beautiful little Persian, Gypsy.  You must be heartbroken and I just wish I could take the pain away for you.  But remember your little girl is at peace now, bless her, and will be watching over you from a place so fabulous that you could not even begin to imagine it....

'Those that we love and have lost
are waiting for us
in a place without parting
where we'll never
have to say goodbye again'

Gypsy will always be with you and she wouldn't want you to be unhappy.  Try to think of all the fun times and all the love and happiness that you shared together.  I'm certain that she couldn't have wished for a better life.

And Gillian, please do not blame yourself.  You did what you thought was right at the time and we can all be wise in hindsight.  I know exactly what you are going through....I think we've all been there.  'If only I had done this or not done that'..it's natural and part of the grieving process.  I had actually typed up a whole explanation about how my little Dubes died within a week of becoming ill....and how I wished to God that I hadn't taken her to the emergency vet on the night she died because I am certain that he caused her death.  He was so young and inexperienced and gave her anaesthetic when she was hyperventilating!!  She had only been seen for a further examination by the Senior partner earlier in the evening who didn't seem to think she was particularly ill... However, I decided to delete it in the end because I realised that it would not serve any purpose except to show how I still think the same thoughts.....and this was three years ago!  But I know that if my little angel had died at home I would have thought 'Oh why didn't I rush her in to the emergency hospital'  You see you can't win.

Gypsy had a doting mum who looked after her in the only way she knew how for as long as her little angel had on this earth.  Nobody could have done any more.

R.I.P Gypsy darling....God bless.....you were loved very much.

Thinking of you Gillian

oh Gillian, just caught up with this thread and I am so so sorry to hear of Gypsy's passing.

It is never easy to lose our babies especially when it is so sudden and unexpected.  She is at peace now and you must try to tell yourself this or else you will beat yourself up.  Sometimes things go the way we don't want and I think its natural to wish we could have done something different and to analyse what happened trying to make sense of it all.  But please don't feel guilty for anything you have done. You did all you could for Gypsy but it was her time, albeit far too soon and you have nothing to feel guilty for.

I truly believe that Jan (Our Founder) is up there waiting on all our furbabes when they arrive and will make sure they are OK and I'd like to think she is giving Gypsy cuddles and taking her under her wing.

My thoughts are with you and your furbabes.

Aww, Gillian, it is understandably still so hard, things happened so suddenly you didn't get chance to expect this, and it is soo much harder to deal with when it is unexpected. And getting their ashes back is such a final thing, and another reminder. You will get days like this, but things will get easier in time. Big hugs to you.

Feeling very sad today, I bought Gypsy's ashes home.  :( I can't seem to stop crying - out shopping yesterday and I just felt myself welling up, and again when I was talking to a new grooming customer this afternoon - and then in front of the CAB advisor (mind you expect they're used to that!) The little casket came with a sympathy card from the crematorium owners (family run) and of course the little lock of her fur.....thank goodness I knew to expect it. Its so heartbreaking though, a little piece of her fur, I just want my girl back.

I echo what everyone is saying Gillian.....you are now questioning yourself and I am positive that if you had had an incline (sp?) what Gypsy's outcome would of been you would of acted differently....But you wer'nt to know....the vets did'nt even know so please try not to be too hard on yourself....

No, no - you must not feel guilty, it was not your fault.  I felt exactly the same way after Cleo died.
Please don't beat yourself up about it - you need to move on but in your own time and at your own pace.

  Take care and remember that you did your best for Gypsy and and Gypsy would not blame you.

Thank you for your messages  :thanks: a lot of my attention has been focused on Lucy, now she's well again, its all hitting home that I've lost Gypsy  :'(

I keep thinking what if I'd got her to the vets sooner - I mean she was coughing a few days before I took her, BUT she was still eating ok then, so I didnt think it was that urgent and was convinced antibiotic treatment would soon get her right, and also felt reassured that my vet didnt seem overly concerned. I don't really understand why the first antibiotics had no effect at all, and by the time I'd realised they werent working, it was the weekend, and I took her back on the Monday, which is when she was given different antibiotics, steroid etc. Then it was only the next morning Tuesday, when I noticed the open mouth breathing and took her back again straight away. They put her in the oxygen tent and started different antibitoics again and the bronchodilators, but she deteriorated so much from when I took her on Tuesday morning to when I saw her again Wednesday morning in such distress.

I know I probably shouldnt be dwelling on all this, but I can't help it, and as I said, the worry about Lucy has passed and this has all come back with avengence and I need to make sense of it all.

So sorry to hear about Gypsy

With heavy hearts; and a tear in our eyes
after all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we've done all we could
if there was anything we could do; you know we would

I'm sitting right here; gently rubbing your ears
while I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we'll never forget
especially the ones; of the day we all met

One last hug; and one last kiss
you have no idea; how much you'll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
you tell me it's ok; you know it's your time

Dream of that special day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We'll run and play; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside

Your memory will live on; in each one of us
you'll always be number 1; to all of us

So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
just for now my friend; we say Goodbye.

Thank you again everyone  :thanks: started another thread for Lucy.

Everything seems really strange here, the group dynamic has changed, the cats are all sleeping in different places  and they seem dotted around the house, rather than all snuggled together like they often were. With Gypsy gone and Lucy withdrawing because she's poorly, nothing seems right.
