I'm hooked that's for sure. They so pretty. I want a cody lookaloke and a Lenny look alike. Mmmm. That nightie stopped working on the OH. He said no more. No matter what I say or do. I even promised him I'd nap Nova...see no cost! Still no!  :censored:

Hi Sonya

Yes, definitely planning to show Nova when she is a wee bit older.  As she is of silver parentage she can only be shown at TICA.  The GCCF do not yet recognise silver or their offspring (but will catch up eventually).

Bengals are amazing (well I think so anyway!).  As well as brown and silvers there are snows (have you seen these?).  And most recently blues and even golden spotted!!!  If you google Purebliss bengals you should be able to see these.

I love your boys Linda and think they are wonderful and im sooo jealous  :) I prefer the browns to the silvers but I suppose you just know which ones are for you when you see them, at least its been that way with my furbabes  :Luv:  even if they'd been pink with yellow spots I knew they were the ones I wanted.

Nova is stunning and im really fascinated by all the different shades and markings Bengals show, are you planning to show her or breed from her?

Hey Sonya, why did I chose browns over silvers?  mmmmm
Tbh, in terms of the boys was not really a conscious decision, as I said they were bred by my friend and this was really the deciding factor as it was more important boys were healthy, well socialised etc as I knew they would be.  And they are beautiful, stunning boys!

When looking for Nova I was open to either & indeed did see some silver girls.  However pure and simple I fell in love!
Nova is of silver parentage which is why she has a lovely light coat with fantastic markings. Her father is a canadian boy and a stunning example of silver.

So have you decided who she will be mated with Lottie?  Im really finding all this fascinating

I've got a gorgeous boy in mind (will be checking him out 'in the fur' when I go over next month) who's fantastic type but it all depends on whether the breeder will let me use him or not and also whether or not Miss Boopy calls at the right time before she comes home.

Yes I knew he was neutered and you show him just wanted to say how lovely I think he is anyway  , what would be the average cost for a norwegian forest kitten?   Im being really nosy tonite arent I. Im just a bit in cat heaven at the minute

He'll be ever so happy to hear that you think he's lovely lol as he loves himself rather a lot. It depends on the pedigree lines and what quality of kitten you are looking for ie. pet, show or breeding. Pet quality kittens are usually around £450ish at the moment.

Sonya - yep the little Toygers are cute aren't they?  They (the breeders) reckon it will take another 10 years before they are fully developed.  They just look like little stripey bengals to me at the moment  ;D

Lottie, yes I think having their own studs etc will help with costs but also need to consider the scale and size of their operation.  Its 24/7 for them, up at 5am every morning and work lots of long hours (not just bengals but their other animals as well).  They have also invested thousands of pounds to have the set up and fantastic cats they own.  Its their life really.

Lottie -  I was surprised re making money out of breeding too but they certainly seem convinced and have been doing it for a few years now.  Guess it would be quite difficult though and their reputation will be what makes them successful as much as anything else.

I sat and worked out an incomings and outgoings thing including cost of Miss Boopy, shows, food, litter, her boosters, FIV/Felv blood tests, stud fees, travel to stud (the biggest ouch factor lol), kitten vaccinations etc per year and it came out that I'll lose £300 with each litter and that is worked out on them all being in their news homes by 14 weeks. Thereagain I suppose Gayzette have their own studs so don't have to pay stud fees and huge travel costs to studs etc which prob helps. Yes that's very true about their reputation as even I'd heard of them lol.

ahhh Toobago - he is Lubo, Lenny and Loki's sire and is now settled in his new home in Scotland - stunning boy! :Luv:

Helen - Jane at Goldnglitz's silvers are to die for and they are certainly taking the show circuit by storm.  My friend has just (a week ago) had her first litter of silvers and the sire is one of Jane's silver boys. Not seen them yet, but Auntie Linda will need to make a visit  :Luv:

Like you Helen I was never particularly interested in owning a pedigree cat.  I'm 37 now and have always had my moggies  :Luv: :Luv:  However, I fell head over heels with the bengal breed and 2 years later am now the proud owner of 4!!!  Greedy aren't I?

Lottie -  I was surprised re making money out of breeding too but they certainly seem convinced and have been doing it for a few years now.  Guess it would be quite difficult though and their reputation will be what makes them successful as much as anything else.

Actually it did not seem like Fort Knox when I was there but then there were plenty of people around including the farm hands (they have horses, sheep etc too).

they moved into bengal breeding when the farming industry was very poor and had to find another way to supplement their livelyhood.

Mmmm Bengals and horses  :Luv:  :Luv:

Does that mean that it's actually possible to make money from breeding??

You're a lucky lady Linda but I imagine you already know that  :evillaugh:  I am seriously thinking about a pedigree cat and it would have to be a Russian Blue for me, ive always loved them from being a little girl, but will have to look into cost, care etc and if my house is the right environment for one, but its always been a dream of mine to own one.  I had the chance of a one years ago when I was working at a vets and one of the clients was a breeder who needed a home for one of her retired breeding queens and she knew how much I adored them and asked me if I would like her.  I was ecstatic but unfortunately my flatmate at the time said a point blank no and as it was her flat there was not a lot I could do, by the time I was sorted with alternative accomodation, the breeder had let her go to someone else.  I was devastated  :'(

Not too sure tbh.  I certainly seen 2 of the girls when I was there, not sure about the third and whether or not they had actually sold her.

Actually it did not seem like Fort Knox when I was there but then there were plenty of people around including the farm hands (they have horses, sheep etc too).

Its a fascinating story though, they moved into bengal breeding when the farming industry was very poor and had to find another way to supplement their livelyhood.  Whilst it is a business to them its clear they are big animal lovers, and all their bengals, foundations, ALC were very well looked after!!!!
Nova was a fantastic opportunity for me to own a super girl and it took time to build the relationship and trust, indeed had she not came home with me they were going to keep her themselves.

Hey Lottie, good question and the answer is I'm not sure.  Would imagine he would go for much less but would have thought more than a 'normal' range.  Foundation cats (whether for breeding or not) are higher priced anyway.  I'm sure when I went to pick up Nova I was told around three thousand pounds (or thereabouts) for an F3 breeding girl which is approx double normal price for a female bengal breeding/show quality cat.

Did the F1 boy still go for a huge sum of money as a pet or was he a more 'normal' cost due to only being able to go as a pet?

Hey Sam, I guess they are worth what someone would be prepared to pay at the end of the day but that was the price quoted in the press.  I'll see if I can dig it out.

I can only imagine the value placed on Apollo!  I've been told he is one of only 5 ALC cats (in the world) at the moment who are actually breeding with bengals. :wow:

Wow did I read that correctly ... Jasmine et al are worth 60 to 80 THOUSAND pound!!!!! One assumes they have some pretty heavy duty security at their place with such valuable stock inside.

Hi Sonya, not a pain at all, you are talking about my favourite subject in the whole wide world  :Luv:

Yes, I met Apollo and he is even more superb in the flesh.  Not as big as I though an ALC would be but impressive none the less.  His F1 kittens are on the website - Jasmine & co.  They made the news when they were born as they introduced a new bloodline to the UK and were estimated as being worth 60 - 80 thousand pounds each!!!!!!  The boy was sold (F1 males are pretty much infertile) but I think the girls all stayed in the end (certainly  2 of the 3 are still there).

Pauline and her husband Frank are the nicest people you could meet and have lots of experience they are more than happy to share.

Hi Helen,

The boys came from a friend of mine who only started breeding last year (Gaelic Glitter).  As she has limited experience, she chose to go with established breeding cats who came from a friend of hers (goldnglitz) rather than buy kittens.  Lubo came from her first litter and Lenny and Loki her second.  The reason the boys are Goldnglitz is that my friend did not have her own prefix (Gaelic Glitter) through from the GCCF and TICA and therefore rather than be assigned one for administration purposes Goldnglitz agreed the boys could be registered under her prefix (same as their mums).  The boys as you know were sold as quality pets.

Nova is show/breeder quality.  My friend, as a new breeder, sells her kittens as pet quality only.  This is the right thing to do as she does not have full experience in showing/breeding herself yet so does not want the responsibility that goes with selling one on to someone else.  Gayzette were in the news at the beginning of last year when I was initially looking for a bengal as they had just introduced a new bloodline into the UK (through Apolllo, their ALC) and had a good reputation.  Hence I got in touch with Pauline and a few months later Nova came home with me  :Luv:

They are fantastic aren't they Sonya  :Luv:

A Bengal cat is one which is at least four generations removed from the original cross (bengal cat x asian leopard cat). These cats are the only type of Bengal which is recognised by the GCCF for show status. The F1, F2, and F3 cats are first, second and third generation removed from the wild i.e. f1 means an ALC parent, f2, ALC grandparent f3, ALC great grandparent etc.

On the website, you will see Apollo who is an ALC - he is absolutely gorgeous boy  :Luv:
