well done Kitty  :)

Maurice  is probably cursing the well wisher that sent him home though lol hee hee     with a name like that its no wonder he left home !

I would strongly recommend that the RSPCA are never  called for a suspected lost cat or dog. It is well known that they have a policy of putting stray animals to sleep.  There must be countless 100's of pets that have been pts by RSPCA and the owners will never have closure because as far as I know the RSPCA do not record them so no one knows.

I think that it should be law that all pets pts should have a picture taken and details posted on a National register.I'm including vets here as well of course. The best bet would be to make it compulsory to have pets chipped .

The majority of cats found roaming are not strays or lost  In my opinion well-wishers are far too quick to pick up wandering cats they find in the mistaken belief that every cat found outdoors must be a stray.

Are his owners Bee Gees fans?

So glad you got him back to his home.

Well done.

Well done for finding Toppy's owners, strange he only went walkabout locally to his home, but there's none stranger than furballs sometimes - be very proud of yourself for taking the time to help

Have to be honest Sonya...there was a small (and I mean VERY small part of me - see previous posts) that was kinda sad that he did have a home to go to as I was liking the idea that he maybe could live with me, but glad he has a home.  My Lexy would never squeak at me again if I did that!

Good news! Toppy is back home. CP said that he was missing but he wasn't reported other than missing pet bureau...oh well! His humans are pleased to have him back now.

So looks like Mir Toppy went a walkies, stressed his people out, and now he's back home....only a few roads away, so strange he didn't go home but there you go...I guess the outside life was one he wanted!

:) very happy

Glad I had a small part to play in him going back home.  A HAPPY ENDING!!!!!

Well, they got him!! :D

Toppy is chipped and owners live locally. CP were going to contact owners and give them some advice on his care.

Ela, if you are reading this, could you advise if this is what you would do if you were contacted about a similar situation? Would you still take him in and try to then follow up? All they did was check if he was chipped when they nabbed him and then took him home.

Seems a bit strange they wouldn't check to see if he was being treated well considering the condition of his coat etc?

So far so good - please keep us posted, Kitty.

PS rereading my earlier post, people might be bemused to my reference to our FM's background. It's relevant because her feelings about cats are a cultural thing, she tells me - there's no tradition of cats as pets in her community apparently and she's never even touched one  :(...

Local CP just called me. Someone else reported Toppy to them, so they are going to go out as soon as they can manage it today, they are slightly busy today, but have asked that any sightings are reported no matter how often during the day so they know where he is. I told some neighbours about him yesterday so they are  also keeping an eye out..

:) So he made it through the weekend with no mishaps!   :evillaugh:

I've asked if they can take a pic of him when they do find him so that I can post here....he is a handsome chap I have to say.

Aw thanks Christine that's sweet of you. I hope he's ok. The CP told me they would contact me when they have done their visit to the area or if anyone called them about him.  If I do see him again though I will call them straight away to let them know where he is.  I'm hoping to nab a pic of him too to post here so that you can see he's as big as a panther Sarah!  :P

Nowhere near me (Fulham) :( I'd have offered to give practical help if you were. Our FM lives your way, but she's Chinese Malaysian and terrified of cats. Hope Toppy turns up again and can be helped...

He sounds wonderful and I hope CP can rescue him and return / rehome him. Roughly whereabouts in London are you, Kitty?

He certainly looks to be a character that's for sure. I'm in north London Christine, Palmers Green way

Lol I think not Sarah....My Lexy is not keen on other cats just yet and Toppy looks like he's wanting to be king of the house.  I don't have conditions for a big cat like him so will have to let CP manage him :) I do like him though....was looking out for him today but nothing.

Are you sure he's not a panther?? :evillaugh:

I saw him again today!  Lounging on the wall of one of the neighbours, licking his chops, all happy with his territory.

He is huge!

I think I'm going to call him Toppy since he behaves like his the top cat on the street.

I called local CP and they are going to have a gander up here to see if they see him as soon as they can. They couldn't promise anything but they have his description and will also see if there have been any complaints about a big tom cat.  I hope he does belong to someone and is chipped and maybe the local CP can give them direction about keeping him in at night. This is a London street....quiet but not that quiet.

Toppy is kind of cute though. In the daylight he's nearly blue black, and he has the biggest green eyes. He has huge paws and a big tummy and he's quiet solidly built. No collar, but a little scruffy round the edges. Could do with a nice brush out to get him all sleek again.  He's not short of food thats for sure. He must be hunting or someone is feeding him because he looks quiet pleased with himself.

I hope the CP are able to get him soon though, dread to think that this very confident cat could be victim of a RTA. He looks like he has some great stories under his belt to tell.

... Blooming. I have Lynn to blame for that word. Can't stop using it.

When you type B L O O D Y on this site (without the spaces) it automatically changes it to Blooming so it may not be Lynn's word at all

Mr big black cat had a lucky escape tonight by the sounds of it, when will they learn their green cross code  :innocent:

Bloomin' Black Cat!!! :)
« Reply #1 on: January 06, 2007, 00:01:28 AM »
I had a scare tonight. Driving back from my sisters I turned into my road which has very low lighting. Its a 20 mph road but unless you're a nut trying to find a short cut you don't evr get up to that speed. Also parking is a nightmare at night so you usually drive at 10mph in case a spot big enough is found.

Anyway!! As I turned into the road I did my usual perusing at a low speed.

Suddenly I hit the breaks because a BLOOMING black cat (huge too) suddenly decided it was safe to cross the road.

And the cheeky sir even gave me a huffy look and sauntered away. If I wasn't looking I would have gone over him.

Its my worst nightmare. To cause this type of harm to any creature. But what a close shave and the little ?66)-)*#! had nary a frightened look at all. I could swear he swaggered away!

He had no collar and was a bit scruffy so I guess he's a stray. I'm going to keep my eye out for him and see if I can call the local CP or RSPCA to see if he can be caught and looked after. If he's so nonchalant about sauntering out in front of a big car that's not that silent the little mister isn't going to be so lucky in future. I know there are a few in my road who wouldn't turn a hair if they had knocked him over.
