On the 5th August, 1995 I met this exceptional girl.

I had been potentially adopting a kitten from the local RSPCA when there was an outbreak of an illness the kitten didn't survive. They asked what I wanted to do and I responded I wanted to go and look in the cattery as I knew there were other cats needing homes.

As I walked down the pens, all the cats looked fairly content. They were all eating, sleeping or playing; all except one, that is. Clinging to the pen door and crying frantically she was telling the world her indignity at being confined....and then she looked straight at me and meowed loudly. In that instant, I felt this cat had chosen me. Despite the fact another kitten had been the original plan, this girl was most definitely never second best in anyones eyes.

Her name at the rescue was Domino, but I wanted her to get a new name for a fresh start and called her Carrie. She was the most stubborn, bossy, expectant cat I'd ever met - which for some bizarre reason, made me love her all the more. She accepted any animal I bought into the home, except dogs and even tried to mother any new cat that came to live with us to varying degree.

I had 15 years with her, and I know how blessed that makes me. I was lucky to have her in my life and now she's gone I'm lost. There's a pain that I can't stop and I know it will be a long time before it goes away.

Carrie, you were my first own feline furbaby. You taught me so much and I will never stop missing you nor loving you. I am proud you're a part of my family and hope so much that you knew just how wonderful I thought you were. Take care, sweetheart and rest easy. You'll always have a piece of my heart.

She really was. Grumpy, pendantic and bossy; but I said to a friend she had the most wonderful habit of climbing on to the settee, flopping onto me and looking at me like I was the only person who existed to her. I miss her so much.

Been a week today, Old Lady. Feels like hours ago and a million years away at the same time. I miss you, and I'll find myself looking for you in your regular sleeping spots, or expecting you to be sat at the top of the stairs waiting for your supper.

I went and collected your ashes from the vets yesterday but the part denying it was you is fighting the logical part that knows I'd know you anywhere.

Was a month since I lost you on the 29th September, Mogula and I still miss you. Am gradually coming to terms with the fact I'll never get a grumpy cuddle with you again. Odd, that that little scowl is so utterly missable to me.

I've realised that every beautiful thing I see kind of reminds me of you a bit; maybe that is my sign and I'm looking too hard. Can only assume that you've found the others by now.

Already posted about this on CatChat, but Mog sent me a rainbow over the Cornish sea. The sun was lighting the coastline gently and I felt such a calmness. Old Mog; never did anything by halves, did my old girl.

You never stop missing them. A little bit of your heart is at the bridge with them just as a little bit of them stays in your heart in it's place.
There is no time at the bridge. It will only be an instant to her till you are reunited. Be patient and live your time hear with joy and memories xx

It hurts when you finally lose an elderly loved pussy.  My one was with me for nearly 18 years to June 2006, there had been two of them together for 13 of those years.  Bully carried on for almost 5 years afterwards in fairly good health.  I got Billy a few weeks after in July 2006.

Two years tomorrow, Mogula. I still miss you bossing me about, and scowling at people who try and come close to me when you were having your cuddle time.
