I've just spotted a post entitled "location based affection" so he isn't the only one with that but with Albie there is also the "rippling back" thing!

Health & Behaviour General / hyperesthesia

Hi everyone. I have a question concerning possible hyperesthesia in my cat.
Iadopted him from a small charity last August. He had had a non specific uri before I adopted him which he had antibiotics for to prevent any secondary infection. He's vaccinated and has been castrated. He's very playful, eats toilets normally and is generally a happy boy.
I have noticed he has the classic "rippling back"if touched or he hears a loud noise. He is also quite "light sensitive"and squints when I turn a light on. The only time he will let me touch him is if I am wearing certain clothes and in my bedroom lying flat on my back on my bed . He will then jump on my chest and enjoy a good head scratch as long as I don't touch his back. He will frequently approach me wanting attention but I can only talk to him-not touch him.
Has anyone had a similar situation? I'm puzzled especially as there are specific conditions where I may touch him!!
Vet on Monday but I wanted to see if anyone could shed any light from personal experience? THANK YOU!!

Hi Zoe,

So sorry to hear kitten is unwell .... What's his name?

Unfortunately the forum is not as active these days so you may not get many responses to your post.  I'm sorry I can't offer any advise on any of the other than the sympots sound like FPV to me .... https://www.pdsa.org.uk/pet-help-and-advice/pet-health-hub/conditions/feline-panleukopenia-fpv

I would speak to your vet again

Hope your little gets well soon.

Hi everyone. In December last year my 12 week old kitten went blind seemingly overnight. He was also sleeping a lot and had a fever. We ended up taking him to an opthalmologist who did a few scans and said his retinas are extremely inflamed, and due to his fever the likely cause of the blindness is a virus such as fiv, fip, felv etc. We did a blood test to check for fiv and felv which both came back negative, so the vet prescribed steroids to help with the inflammation (we will be visiting the vet again for a follow up in a few days)

The problem is that it seems my kittens condition isn't really improving. Hes still blind, minimal energy, doesn't play, and recently he's begun losing weight although he still has an appetite. He's also developed loose stools, and uses the litterbox a lot. What's also odd is that after using the litterbox, he crouches on the ground with his head lowered for a while. The only good thing is that his fever has disappeared. Any thoughts on what could be wrong with him? I keep thinking it's FIP but he's been sick for over a month now, surely his symptoms would have gotten worse? :scared:

The Night Before Christmas 2023

Rainbow stirred and stretched.
Was it that time already?
There were newbies ahead of him so Monty waited
They were excited and tumbling around
On the night before Christmas

Rainbow called him and Monty came?
Come my friend you know the way.
Monty stood while he climbed up his silky fur.
The key jingled and the cats and other animals ran forward!
On the night before Christmas

Monty set off towards the gate
He knew the way now and his heart raced
Rainbow held tight as he bounded towards the glowing light.
The stars shone and they all flew together filled with hope and joy
On the night before Christmas

She wasn’t first this year his Callie
She knew the rules – there were others more needy
She waited patiently while they surged forward
She knew he would be there
Monty, said Rainbow, will you lift me up now to the gate
On the night before Christmas

So he lifted the little one and in the key went
The gates swung open wide and the magic was sent
The cats all ran through and were united again
With their loved ones, their homes and their families and friends
On the night before Christmas

She stepped forward and he came to her
They came together and she told him the news of friends old and new
They snuggled and talked and he sent his love to his family
One day he knew they would all be together again
On the night before Christmas

Love flowed like rivers
To takers from givers
Love lasts forever
It always delivers
On the night before Christmas

In memory of all those who walked the path over the bridge this year x
