Des, Sean just wouldn't have allowed it because of the financial side, it's easy vets saying they won't allow you to do something, but Sean forgets, I do rescue, he is a vet and I can't put a price on a kitten's life if it's possible he could have been saved.  Somehow, I would have found the money but sadly I didn't get the chance.

You've got friends...we could have sorted something out, I'm sure.  A life is always worth trying to save...and the money can be found afterwards.

Dawn, it sounds like you can't feel guilty if Sean wouldnt have let you put him through the op, regardless of his strength.

It's basically where the blood bypasses the liver instead of filtering through so causes problems.

 http://www.cat-world.com.au/PortosystemicShunts.htm

Maybe he would have been too weak but last week he may have been fit enough to go through it  :'(  Sean has said he still wouldn't have let me put him through the op, as it would have cost thousands and he would have to been referred.

Hi Gill

It's the liver.  Do you remember Adam, the little guy we helped in America (I think we were on CC then).  The Feral Cat Alliance (who we made contact with when helping Abyss) e-mailed us to see if we could help towards the funds needed to operate on Adam. He was a gorgeous little blue boy who had been living rough and was a fraction of the size he should have been at (if my memory serves me correct) seven months and was suffering from liver shunt.

Dawn posted some pix of his vet holding him following the successful (hooray) op and we all fell in love with his handsome vet.  Don't you remember?

Dawn reprimanded us all for looking at the vet instead of Adam :innocent:  but Adam would have been your ideal little guy...he was completely blue and had the sweetest little face.

I wish Jake could have had the same successful outcome....God bless his little soul

Oh Dawn.. :(  .but would the little babe have been well enough to have the op even if you had had the results back earlier?

Just got back from the vets and Jake's results are back.  Sean said it's pretty certain he had a shunt, his Bile Acid levels were more than double after he'd been fed so it would signify a problem there.  He is going to phone the labs in the morning to confirm.  I feel gutted now  :'(  :'(  :'(

DD, i know you are heart broken , but think of all the love and care you gave to little Jake in his short life and i am sure he knew how speciall he was.

I just wish he could have been saved  :'(  :'(  I felt so optimistic last night about him thinking his sugar levels were the problem and that could easily be sorted, how wrong could I have been  :'(    When I can talk to Sean without bursting into tears, I'll have a chat to him, I know it's not going to bring him back but might it make it easier if we could shed some light onto why it happened.

Sean sounds like a fantastic vet.

He is and I would trust him 110% and if I had my way, he would be the only one to treat my animals.

Oh no, I have been checking this thread and opening it with fingers crossed today  :(

So sorry to hear about poor Jake Dawn - but nobody could possibly have put more effort into helping him than you did - sadly he wasn't meant to last long with you. You can be glad that he had you to look after him and care for him and love him until the end.

Thinking of you xxxxx

Sarah, it might be best just in case.   He was ill yesterday afternoon as well and he was supposed to be doing evening surgery tonight but he didn't, I didn't ask why though, hopefully he'll be okay to go in

Hi Dawn,

So very sorry - not the news that we hoped for.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path that has been laid you see.
I took the hand when I heard the call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to mew or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void, then fill
it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee.
The Bridge wanted me now and set me free!

 :RIP:  Jake
