He ate some chicken this morning - willingly and really tucked into it instead of halfheartedly licking it  :wow:

Am going to cancel the vets as the vet he saw on Monday said that he would expect him to be better by Weds and if not to bring him back, he's been a lot brighter for the last few days it was just the lack of eating that was worrying me.  I had to get up at 4am today to take my sister & family to the airport and while I was getting ready he jumped off the bed and pounced on Lu - that's my boy  :naughty:

Helen hun Just catching up with this so sorry not seen it sooner.

Please give Riles my love and sending over loads of very best wishes he will feel better soon and the vets can find out whats wrong.  Does sound tummy prob. Does his tum feel bloated? Rio had a tummy bug for about 2 weeks before i went to another vets and they gave him the right meds to get rid of it. That afternoon he was back to norm.

Sending over cuggles for you Riles and Lu

He's been seen 4 times now and each time they had a really thorough poke and squueze of his innards, he's also poo-ing (albeit runny poos now  :() so think this rules out a blockage.

I've booked the appointment for tomorrow morning already and picked one of the top vets who saw him while he was hospitalised on Saturday. I just want him back to normal  :(

Has vet ruled out Riley eating something that may have caused a blockage perhaps Helen?

I've only really got this possibility on my mind as our young un chewed through the thin wire aerial on our radio at the end of last week.  He went off his food a bit so I rang vet and they said to keep an eye on his appetite and bring him in if he became listless as it may cause a blockage.  I don't want to worry you further but just want to make sure vet has considered it....

He seems brighter in himself today but is still not eating, he licked the gravy off some gourmet gold but ignored cat milk, chicken breast and beef slices  :( No vomiting since Friday but he now has a runny bum :(

Helen can sympathise HRH Princess Sweetie has been on hunger strike today but walloped a sachet of kitten food as good as it looks and has been a lot perkier this evening  - our other mob are enjoying all the extra good stuff!

We have all paws crossed here for Riley and our Riley is sending extra hisses - he doesn't do nice yet for the gorgeous nice boy he was named after

  so know how you feel it is very stressful. My other cat Larry who always snuggles up with Leo has done nothing but hiss at him since coming home from the vets, even today. I can only assume he must smell funny because hes still not 100%. I assume the vet has looked in Riley's mouth to check for mouth ulcers etc, hope he starts to pick up soon.

He licked the gravy off some gourmet gold earlier and had a few tiny nibbles of Bozita, I think because he's eaten so little the last few days that his empty tummy is making him feel sick so a vicious circle. I've not been eating much either as I've been so stressed and worried about him, last night I felt sick and stomach crampy from under-eating and if you had tried to make me eat it would have been impossible so I sort of know how Riley feels.

Cuddles to for Lucas who must be really confused as to whats going on!  ;D

Lucas is loving it! He gets to eat all the food that I put down for Riley that Riley ignores  :tired: So far he's had more chicken breast in the last few days than he's had his whole life, Royal Canin sensitivity (he was quite partial to that), Gourmet Gold, Beefy water and a few extra dinners too!

Tuna in brine is ok it is just that they usually prefer it in oil - has he eaten any tuna yet?

Thanks everyone, took him back to the vets today as although he is nibbling at food he is still very down/lethargic.

The vet gave him another steroid jab and said that given that he is young, fit and otherwise healthy he suspects it's a long lasting form of gastritis and that if he is no better by weds then to bring him back in for tests. He wasn't dehydrated this time which is good and he hasn't been sick since I bought him home on Saturday.

Went to the shop and bought him cat milk, tuna (in brine as had already been before you posted Yvonne), beef slices and gourmet gold. He ignored the stewing steak that he ate yesterday but has had a tiny nibble of normal cat food.

Sorry that I missed this earlier.

Hope Riley is feeling better soon.  I found that Tuna fish in oil not brine slightly warmed up when pussies are off their food.

Good luck with him – glad they are back together now.

If you can get hold of VIYO cat milk that is very popular at chez Noah. Instead of diluting it I sometimes mix with a raw egg (protein in liquid form :sneaky: ). VIYO apparently contains vitamins, minerals plus taurine, can't tell you for sure if it is complete tho.
:'( My beautiful Noah rescued 13/02/09, adopted 11/10/09, taken 11/02/11 :'( You deserved so much more.

Yep Rosella, they're brothers and normally very close - that's why it's so upsetting to see Lu hissing at Riley and I'm having to stop myself from being angry at Lu as I know it's not his fault it's just that Riley smells funny to him  :(

He's had a few mouthfuls of 'normal' cat food too  ;D I only fed Lu at dinnertime and he didn't come when I was dishing up but a few minutes later I heard a hiss from Lu and Riley was trying to see what was in his bowl. I dished him up his own portion and he had a few nibbles and has had another mini-portion just now. He still seems very subdued and miserable though, fingers crossed he's turning the corner :wish:
