He has just drank some milk so I gave him a bit more and he started meowing for it, brought a bit of ham up for him to so will try that cos when we have had it before he usually tries and eats it but I thought it would be bad for him, but the vet recond it is fine.xx

Nope no news yet but Simba seems to be getting worse again, will have to wait till tomorrow now :'( He wouldn't eat any more pilchards last night and can't get him to eat anything today, he is just lying around in our bedroom all the time. Now and again he make a tiny lil meow but thats it. I have an awful feeling that its not gonna be good news tomorrow. I just hope he isn't in any pain, I know cats hide their pain. :'(

They seem to be lower in protein - I had jelly, gravy and supermeat varities in one brand, and compared the three. Does all depend on how their tum reacts to it though. The lowest was Aldi food in gravy, and Tescos food was quite low. The premium brands seem to be higher in protein though.

Good luck for the test results. My vet thinks protein is the most important thing, and the chicken flavour food i had Rosie on was one of the worst - I had a lot of brands of food in the house, and the ones that have the lowest protein tend to be in gravy.

Just spoken to the vet and he is gonna see if he can get the results tomorrow instead of Thursday! I asked the vet if all the antibiotics he has had since he was really young could of caused his kidneys to enlarged and he said they would more like make them shrink, and that they used the safest one (forgot what he said it was called) He is eating pilchards in tomato sauce at the moment cos he has hardly touch anything today. He seems to keep changing his mind what he wants. But he has to eat something, the stronger smelling the better the vet said. I told him that his two kidneys feel enlarged now but he said that could be cos he has lost so much weight, but I can still feel them. xxx

fingers crossed! It's the worst thing, waiting for the phone to ring when you're worried. Hope his trip to his catrun and a poo (if normal, generally a good thing!) mean Simba's feeling a little stronger. I wouldn't be worried about chasing the vet if you're getting more and more anxious. He should understand that

I have been doing a bit of searching and there are doctors that don't think a low protein diet helps CRF and the low phosophorus part of renal foodis the important bit. They even believe restricting protein causes muscle wastage.

I hate the way they ended up making their conclusions. By removing part of a 28 cat's kidneys and giving them varying diets  >:( - but the facts are there. This isn't the first time I have heard of renal food being questioned.

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Have rang the vets again this morning waiting for him to ring back.Has started to eat some chicken flavour cat food again which is better than having the tuna as tuna has more protein in it which isn't good for the kidneys if damaged. Can't understand why the vet never mentioned that when he should no that.Anyway will tell him when he rings, have hardley been having any sleep too! Keep checking that he is alright every 20 mins or so.He has been sleeping on our bed since he hasn't been well, still hasn't pooed yet!
