Sending you lots of healing vibes ~~~~ and love

thank you everyone, Tenini is my fiv boy who just stopped eating and looking very sorry for himself. The vet has given him a good check over, lungs and chest clear and he appears to have a virus infecting his nose and eyes. I am hoping the antibiotics kick in soon as he hasn't eaten since yesterday
-
Hope the meds work, although not sure how abs will work on a virus. Could you put him in a steamy room to try and clear his nose?
-
my house is open plan but last night I used olbas steam on 2 pillars at the top of the stairs so the whole of the upstairs was an almighty steam room, which did seem to help him a bit.
This morning after a cuddle he came down stairs and drank lots from the water fountain used the litter tray (very small 1&2 )back for more water then went to the garden room where he is sun bathing on a very fluffy rug. He has still not eaten , been trying endless foods, anyone have any idea's or a secret potion?
-
Have you tried either warming his Food, or smelly fish?
-
Liz always recommends Complivit which you can get from the vet, or from Amazon at around £14.00 for a pump dispenser.
Sending lots more healing vibes for Tenini, bless him.
-
tried sardines, tuna, shrimp, anchovies, cod, trout, chicken, just warming some a/d as he has moved off the fluffy rug to his normal place on a comfy chair in the garden room
-
The ABs should give him an appetite, even if they don't affect the virus.
Glad to hear he's back home and enjoying the sunshine.
-
a/d didn't work can now only speak to vet when he comes out of surgery later.
-
:(
-
Any news, Pandora? Been thinking of you both.
-
vet wasn't too concerned as Tenini was drinking but if he didn't eat by this morning I was to take him back to vet. He still hasn't eaten and this morning he has a slight discharge from one eye, taking him back to vet this morning.
Fingers crossed everyone as I don't think I can take another heart ache :'( :'(
-
My fingers and toes are well and truly crossed Pandora. None of us want you to have to face another parting.

Tenini had a booster antibiotic on top of the long acting one that he had on wednesday, he was also fed by syringe plus drops for his eye.I am having to feed him by syringe until he decides to eat from his bowl and tonight will have to add more antibiotics to the syringed food. He is using the litter tray and drinking although I think his temperature goes up after he has the syringed food, going to check this during the next 24 hours.
As it stands there is no visable or otherwise signs as to why he wont eat from his bowl, anyone with some thoughts please?
-
any chance he could be suffering from acid reflux, which would cause discomfort when he bent his head? Have you tried raising his bowl about 10cms?
-
going to feed cats now so will give it a try
-
tried raising the bowl but it didn't work so syringe fed him.
-
Sorry for asking the obvious but has the vet checked his teeth and gums?
Could Tenini have got something stuck in his teeth or at the back of his throat (again, I'm sure the vet has checked this but sometimes it's the simple things that get overlooked).
Hope he's better soon.
-
yes teeth and gums were the first things checked, chest & lungs all clear ,kidneys & liver ok , his main problem seems to be his blocked or runny nose
Found some info which will run pass the vet tomorrow in the mean time still feeding him by syringe although he is beginning to fight against me feeding him.
-
Tenini is now in hospital, CRF with complications :'( :'( can anyone give some idea on good food they have tried for when he comes home
-
Poor Tenini - what antibiotic injection did he have? I've always found renal dry more palatable, I've just got a new brand called Kattovit for Lucy, Zooplus do lots of trial packs. Fingers crossed for him
-
Topping up the positive thoughts for Tenini
-
thanks Desley he had amoxe....something, just checking food and their levels of protein & phosphorus. Tenini has always eaten wet and dry so just looking into whats out there although it does seem you have to buy in bulk rather than being able to by seperate tins/pouches to try. The lowest protein and phosphorus seems to be by proplan but just thought others would have a better idea than me.
thank you Sue

Sending hugs and luv

just a quick update, despite having to dash Tenini to vet hospital at the weekend, he has been under 2 vets for 14 days ( big fat vet bills) plus he was handed back to me with no meds and no hope.
it is now only under my care with the help of people on here and some friends that he has eaten twice tonight 2 small meals, keep the vibes coming folks
-
Topping up the vibes for you both, Pandora. Love can be worth a cupboardful of medicines.
-
Mark is the go to man of CRF on here he has had some great results with stuff
Sending a lot of Clan magic your way x
-
Am glad you have managed to get a couple of small meals into him, not surprised he came home with no meds. Do hope you can speak to the vet today
-
Tenini ate a little more thursday morning but has not eaten since, he uses the litter box and is drinking but has stopped eating again :(
I will keep trying everything and hope that he eats again.
Does anyone know where Mark is?
-
I think he is more active on Facebook but I don't know his details there unfortunately. Sending lots of "please eat" vibes for Tenini.
-
Fingers crossed - mark was on cc last week, do you have his email address?
-
I did send a message to a Mark on cc last week but as I didn't here ,thought I had the wrong person.
Today I just smeared gentley around Tenini's mouth a small amount of complivit which he licked of and then put a small dot on a saucer but he wouln't touch it, just walked to the water fountain and drank some water.
-
Sorry I missed the message on Catchat last week. I rarely look on forums these days. I got Kay's message though.
If he is congested, I had good results putting very hot, steamy (but not boiling) water, with some olbas oil into s steaming cup and held it under Laz's nose (making sure he wasn't forced to breath scalding steam in) with a towel over his head - I put my head under with him to avoid frightening him. I found most of the time after a few minutes of this, he was happy to eat. I know it is different for every cat, but he favoured the fish doubly delicious pouches, which I microwaved in the dish for about 15 seconds to make them smellier.
I find the soft pates, like Gourmet Gold tins went down well too. I really think it is a case of trial and error, as they have different likes and dislikes - warming slightly always helps.
This is the cup I bought. I have seen them in Home Bargains very cheap. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Medisure-MS05475-Steam-Inhaler-Cup/dp/B004GK0R2G/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1507409717&sr=8-1&keywords=steaming+cup
Some people have had success with liquivite. My vet used to keep a few in stock https://www.liquivite.co.uk/
I will have a think and see if I can remember anything else.
I am having issues with a cat that isn't even mine at the moment. I won't go into details, but think it has a mouth problem. I have been adding a bit of warm water to pouches and blending them with a hand blender to make a thick soup. That might help. Sorry I haven't really got much advice. I know how hard it is when they just aren't interested in eating.
Fingers crossed for him
-
thanks for coming on Mark, he has since being in vet hosp., no blockage in his nose, lung, chest all clear. I was just told he was crf and he was handed back to me without any meds or info, all the help I have had has come from everyone on this forum and Catwork because he is fiv. ( there is another lady on cc with simular probs wanting help )
Major prob trying to get him to eat, can smear food across his mouth which he will eat and clean but when in dish he refuses to eat, already tried raising dishes, he does drink water and use litter box. Olbas trick done and was a success before he went into hosp.
Now while you help others can we help you?,please say the issues regarding the cat, exchanging info gives us all the chance to help with our knowledge or experience of caring for cats
-
Thanks anyway, but it is a long and complicated story (spanning years) and would take too long to tell. I have tried to find the owner and even dropped a note through her door today, via her landlady. I think my only option now is to get her to a vet. The food thing was just a short term fix until we can get her checked out.
PS - warming food does seem to help when their appetite is impaired
