Is there anyone who cannot see the amount box appear with the comments section underneath when you click "enter Bid" blue button in a listing page if using windows 8 with Internet explorer 11?

Will have a play with this later this week but have a question, Can it shuffle the items at night and can a total  be done every few days?

OK two questions!

Chrome is
Version 37.0.2062.124 m It doesn't seem to want to upgrade  so not sure if it is the latest version. I am more than happy to use Waterfox as I prefer it to Chrome if it is just mine that is playing up  :) The most important thing is I can bid! :chicken:

lol gilly I knew ya were going to ask that :)
Yes  auction staff can select any individual item or tick any multiple items and move them up down the list
They have an additional tick box selection on the left hand side of the listing main page
The list is in lowest bid and new items at top sort order so any new items are at top.

Yes admin has a running total of current bids on the main page at any time. No adding up needed, no excel files needed anymore :)

How much were you bidding ?

When you bid by either clicking quick bid or  wrriting a comment and then click place bid & comment it automatically takes you back to the item
Then to go to the main auction page to see all the listings simply click back to auction

No problem bidding or uploading items (Internet Explorer).

I'm getting one message for each bid on my items with an extra message if a comment is made with the bid.  I would have thought only one message, for the bid, would be enough otherwise everyone's personal message box is going to get clogged up, particularly when the bidding gets fierce :duel:.

I also got the "you have been outbid" message okay.

All the messages are also being automatically copied to my email address.

I'll have another play tomorrow :)

I'm in chrome and have been able to bid.

Did you know that the tab on the bar at the top of the page reads 'Aution 2014' rather than 'auction'?

As we had to write software to join the bid action and the comment action on one page but we can't change the forums inbuilt notification system to send one notice with comment and bid instead of separately.
Best thing is if these are too much , to untick the notify option when you add a listing so no notifications are sent and then you need to look at your my  listing page to see the bids on your items.

Bidders will get a pm notice when outbid. Like ebay.  If you do not want this sent as an email as well best to turn off pm email notifications in your pm settings while the auction is on  :)

If you want to not get certain pm's from auction say the outbid messages, you can set up a rule in your pm settings to auto delete them
For example a rule of
Any message that contains the word outbid in the message subject box - delete.

Ok thanks
Large bid amounts work so 200.00 would of been fine.
What bid button did you press after entering amount.

What browser are you using and version

Can you bid on anything . Try again for me :)

It's
Click on an item
Click enter bid button
Enter amount in decimal
Click quick bid button OR write in comment box and click place bid & comment button

That item page will reload with your bid on automatically

Then click back to auction to go back to main listing page

Just tried twice more on 2 other items and neither worked, one said I had already bid or clicked twice.hadnt, next one said I had to bid higher and had!
#
I am not sure I am even seeing the first page right as doesnt have two sides.

An using IE9

Have also added item that was OK until I tried to bid on it and wont let me.

So far not impressed at all cos there too many things that we do in auction normally that cannot be done any more so on those alone will loose about £300.

Apart from it allowed me to add something thats all thats worked so far for me.

Also I cant see comments with bids seems that they are split up or is it I am just not seeing it right?

no more time to play any more.

Can you email me a screen print of the page after you click enter bid please. You should have a page with the amount box then underneath a normal comments box then a place bid & comment button.

So the amount comes up and you get a message saying you have already bid - this would only happen if you clicked the quick bid button twice  - if your browser is slow then ya need  to hang on for the page to reload with your bid on it.

The you have to bid higher message will only show if you didn't bid higher than the current bid. It may be like our normal forum threads if some one is also bidding on the same item at the same time and they got their bid in first just before you it will also say you need to bid higher message. That's no different to the normal forum where if there is a new post while you make a post it will tell you another post has been made.

Ie9 is old so will check it out tomorrow. What windows version have you got?

Xx

Afraid this is just too complicated and tbh I cant see me bidding cos I dont want to have to play with my email settings cos can cause chaos and still havent been able tp get things back to how they were before my lappy was rebuilt in Jun. Messages on Purrs are the only way to stay in contct with people as lost all my email addys when lappy went down. I dont want my email or messages clogged up, I can do that all by myself  :innocent:

Ebay style auctions OK for ebay but wont do the job on Purrs I think. this software has taken all the fun away and no way will the auction keep running for two weeks with bids as the bids used to appear on the main pages of Purrs so one could see that action was happening. Now its seperated and one has to go into an auction button the that is a very concious thing to have to do and so easy to forget or just ignore.

Also dont think the last afternoon of bids will happen.

Sorry these comments will not please you but although the auction had become so much work and these is a way of reducing that, I personally dont think its going to bring two weeks of bids in and auction income will be seriously down.

Apart from all of that I still havent been able to successfully bid on anything

Nope you can't bid on your own item lol read instructions lol

Great thanks so much - can ya explain what we can't do anymore please ?  Why will we loose 300 where did that come from?
If you mean the name a cat, gills pictures for bid etc then we can still do that in a normal thread in the auction section of the forum. No problem. :)

The comments are under the bid section. Yes  you need to scroll down to view them. It was the only way we could have a comment section in with the same page as the bids.  We had to rewrite the software to do this. You don't get comments on eBay lol

Sorry I can't see what is complicated? Can you explain please?

With using the normal threads like last year in the auction you would have got pm notifications with updated posts and that will have also been sent by email if you have that option set up.  I know some people used to turn notifications off during auction time to stop the e,ails coming through.  So no different there to this new system.

With our previous auctions they were all held in the fundraising  section in the forum and like any other thread you need to go into that thread to read it
So this way you need to click on auction button at top instead of scrolling down to click into the fundraising board.

If you mean that new items that are posted as threads last year could be seen in your unread posts link at top then no problem , if you want to be notified of all new items up for auction then you can select to be notified of all on the main page.  This way your unread post section does not get clogged up with many auction threads. People have not liked that before.

Sorry I don't understand about a conscious decision to click on the auction button ? People would still had to click on the auction topic on all our auctions before to go in there! What's the difference?

Sorry Gill please help me to understand why you can't bid on anything?

So far so good.  ;D  I've entered items and had notifications of bids,  and I've bid on items and had notifications of being outbid.  At first I was a bit disappointed that you could only see the name of the last bidder and not all the bidders (like to size up the competition  :evillaugh: ) but when the notification of being outbid arrived it had a list of all bidders so no problem there.

I just :Luv2:  the buttons on the left hand side for Unviewed items, My bids and My listings.  They will save me so much time (and help stop me from bankrupting myself) when the auction gets into full swing.  I haven't tried the Search or Edit buttons yet but I will.

I'm finding having the comments separated from the bids a bit strange because the last bid and the last comment are not necessarily from the same person so if somebody has posted just a smiley it doesn't always make sense now that you can only see the last bid and not any that went before it.  My feeling is this might take a bit of the fun out of handbag exchanges  but I'll just have to get into one and see what happens.  :)  I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I've never been very successful at keeping track of 'my' items in the final frantic minutes of the auction and I wonder how I will cope with the new system and whether I'll be able to see them all on screen and cope with all the updating involved.  I notice there is a countdown clock so are you going to publicise when we're approaching the end of the test auction like you do with the real one so that we can see how it works and have a practice under pressure?  I think I might need more than one practice.  :innocent:

I notice that its possible to ignore what the auctioner asked for as a starting price and bid lower.  Yes I know twas ever thus but I just wondered if its possible to programme it such that the system won't accept a lower bid (says she who knows nothing whatsoever about how much work this might entail.... I'll get me coat  :sneakin:  )

Forgot to add that I like having a pic of the item on the main listing.  :)   It might stop me from bidding on the wrong item in the final minutes when two things have similar names, but I doubt it.

Chrome Version 38.0.2125.104 m

Is the version it updated to and is showing at up-to-date.

By the way, there is a C missing from the button :shify: and maybe it would be possible to change the letter colouring so it stands out when the auction is live?

Sp agree with Carols comments but think I am not seeing the pages right cos cant see most of what Carol can.

I think maybe I used old system different to others but dont know.

I never had any notifications of anything although my messages came to me by email and nothing appeared in messages of anything to do with auction................am I misunderstanding what you said?

I saw every new bid and new item in the auction thread posted as a new 'post'. Geez my memory so bad and underneath or on top was where it had been posted from. Saw all this in unread posts and during the auction weeks and it totally dominated the new posts in Purrs for that time. So didnt need to go into any button as a concious thought I just clicked on the unread posts or deleted them if I wasnt interested in any. So very easy to keep things clear.

I dont know why it wont let me bid but it wont and where Carol has bee n able to put in a lower bid I get must put in a higher bid eeven when I have!!!!!!

It will not accept a quick bid or one with comments.

As far as bidding on own item, last year I put something in that was of more value to me than the bids it was getting so decided I would like to keep and bid on it to do this................I lost in the end ...sigh.

Yes I was referring to name a cat etc but would it work to have it seperate?

Why wont it let me bid, why dont I see what others see?

Ie9 is old so will check it out tomorrow. What windows version have you got?
I'm using IE9 :-[ on Windows 7.

I'm finding having the comments separated from the bids a bit strange [snip] this might take a bit of the fun out of handbag exchanges
I agree, although as Carol says it might just need a bit of getting used to . . . :-:

At first I was a bit disappointed that you could only see the name of the last bidder and not all the bidders (like to size up the competition  :evillaugh: ) but when the notification of being outbid arrived it had a list of all bidders so no problem there.
If you click on the number of bids (below the current price) it brings up a list of bidders and what/when they bid.  I was going to say that I missed the date/time of the latest bid until I found this. ;)

I've tried search - can't search on three letters or less, so "vole" is okay but "box" is not.  I've tried edit - can't edit a listing with bids on it (fairy nuff); edited one with no bids okay.

I've added another item and unchecked the "notify me of replies" box, so will see how that goes plus added some bids to existing items.

Will keep playing and report back :)

Can one do a screen shot straight to Purrs without having to put it into a doc or anything?

This has been saved as a jpg in Office Tools.

It's the first page you get after clicking on the item title.

Ok yes mine looks like that but just tried bidding again and doesnt work grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Browser settings now thats a runner cos know that they could be dodgy as have probs dowloading pics sometimes and I was instructed to temp change a setting and then download and change back.............well that worked!

Never had to do this before lappy was rebuilt and many things have changed cos think when the lappy was messed around with last year by McCaffie who really messed it up and then by Dell who tried to put it right but thet said it really needed rebuilding.

I must try and be carefully because watch sgtreaming football and NOTHING must mess that up LOL

The browsers settings names all look different  to what I was used to  and no clue where to start !!

By the way, there is a C missing from the button :shify: and maybe it would be possible to change the letter colouring so it stands out when the auction is live?

Yes great idea :)

Yup as Frances found  ;D ya can see a full list of all the bids under the red number of bids text line that is clickable.

I just :Luv2:  the buttons on the left hand side for Unviewed items, My bids and My listings.  They will save me so much time (and help stop me from bankrupting myself) when the auction gets into full swing.  I haven't tried the Search or Edit buttons yet but I will.

:) yes thought these would be handy. Also will be a quick way to see what you have won etc when auction is fini and to easy contact the auctioneer with your address.  Also when auction is fini there will be xtra options in there to update the status of each item to paid / posted/ received etc
and in the same for the mylistings tab.

This is a bit is a bit difficult to join the amount and comments together because in our normal thread auctions last year we typed the amount and comment in the text box so both were together as one text post but we need to do the amount in sep box so it posted into the auction as a bid and it cuts so much work out so we don't have to go into each thread to see the amounts.  :shify: :evillaugh:

We are redoing the look of the bidding page so the comments are not so far away, we don't need all the info of the item shown on the actual bidding page as they are shown on the item page so we can hide these from view and if you do want to view the item details in the bidding page we will put in a click to view them.  We will also spread and move things up the page instead of having it only in the center  so the bottom comments will be much closer to the top.

:innocent:

Yes we will have as mnay end auction tests as we like :) I can change the end date of the count down clock and this is def something we need to test. We are working on the end auction system so we can have a go once we have fini that.

Hopefully it will be easier to bid on the things you really want as in Mybids tab you will have a list of all the item you have bid on, which ones you are winning at the top and ones outbid underneath. From that page you can link into the item to bid so you could use that page to track all the items you want/fightin for  :naughty:.

Yes this is a good idea and we can do this, ie we can set a starting bid into the system so only that bid amount can be started. It will be an option when you add an item :)

Brilll thanks hun
Title: Re: New Auction software - Please post comments / questions / problems here
Post by: Tan on October 21, 2014, 15:40:21 PM
I saw every new bid and new item in the auction thread posted as a new 'post'. Geez my memory so bad and underneath or on top was where it had been posted from. Saw all this in unread posts and during the auction weeks and it totally dominated the new posts in Purrs for that time. So didnt need to go into any button as a concious thought I just clicked on the unread posts or deleted them if I wasnt interested in any. So very easy to keep things clear.

Thanks  Yes I can see we will be "hiding" the auction more from the main forum activity but we have a solution :)
OK we can do this :)  What we can do is incorporate the new auction items when added to the auction list into the main forum so we have a main thread under the auction forum section entitled "New Auction Items"  then under that thread every time a new auction item is listed it will automatically post a new post in that thread of the new item with just a small image and the title of it and you can click on it to go to that item in the actual auction to bid.  These posts will be locked/ read only (so you cant bid in there) and also all these posts will appear in your unread posts option at the top.   and good news is that only one post per new auction item will be posted on the actual forum - not tons of bidding posts as well.

This way people that maybe don't go into the auction button can see on the forum what items have up for auction. Bit like advertising each item with pic and mane only in the forum.

As far as bidding on own item, last year I put something in that was of more value to me than the bids it was getting so decided I would like to keep and bid on it to do this................I lost in the end ...sigh.
I don't fink it's far to have an auctioneer bid on their own item to just bump up the value  :sneaky: but we can set a starting bid now so only that amount can be used to start the item off and no lower amount can be entered to start.

Yes I was referring to name a cat etc but would it work to have it seperate?

We could have all the "name a cat" etc threads separate in the forum as usual as these normally carry on after the auction has fini so if peeps didn't win want they wanted they can still pop donations into these if they want.

So what may be wrong in my browser?

  what's wrong wiv ya computer lol ya had sooo much trouble wiv it aint ya.

hmm i don't know cause it's hard to tell without looking at it to see what is going wrong.

I would say try another browser but I knwo we have had this before and ya no likely using another one with ya pc not working all correctly.

Ok  :) lets see
so ya can see the bid amount box and the comments box after you click £enter Bid" blue button on item page.
Then you enter the amount in decimal format and so far ya have had errors
- You cant enter this twice
- You have to bid a higher amount

Is that right?
Those errors are meant to be there if ya try to press the bid button twice or if ya enter a lower amount as the system wont let you bid a lower amount than the last bid.

So if ya try and bid again what happens?
we are getting rid of the "Enter Bid" blue button  once the amnount box appears cause if you enter an amount and then click that button above, it does nothing but take you back to the item page. so I wonder if that's whats happening? we will get rid of that so it's not there to click.

So lets try and bid on darlin Bonnie  :Luv: :Luv: try to do a quick bid with no comments for now on this auction item
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=34 (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?action=classifieds;sa=view;id=34)
-Click Enter bid button
-Enter an amount sat 1.00
-click Quick bid button

watch what happens and let me know.

what should happen is the page will relaod automatically showing your 1.00 bid at the top

wouldn't let me click the blue box turned into a hand

Hi Dawn hun

Yeap when you hover over the blue "Enter Bid" button your cursor should turn into a hand so you can click. This is a pc's way to show the area is clickable.

What happens when you click?

What browser are you using and version

Just to say many bid on their own item, because they changed mind and want it but also have a limit they can afford to do so.

To put a start figure is no good in this situation.

I therefore will not put an item in bacause if I decide I want to keep it, I dont have that option anymore  :'( :'( :'(

I have just asked Steve if we can take that rule out then as while on any auction site it isn't fair to bump up the price this is for needy cats  :sneaky:  so if the bid was to high for anyone then they simply don't bid again if they wish
Also I do enjoy answering comments on my items and as we have always had the rule that you can't comment without leaving a higher bid that also helps raise a bit more for the cats :)

So will aske Steve to take this rule out so we can bid on own items

I want to make a comment in my item that I have put up Auction - how do I do it?  Do I have to make a bid and then just delete the bid from my comment??

The reason is that the 2 people who have made bids have not read that my item has a starting price and their bids are well low

Hi Mary hun

Thanks  ;D

We have done it so the rule we have always had which is that no comments (posting on the auction thread as last year) are allowed without a bid   so you are not able to just post a comment with out bidding a smaller higher amount.

We had this "rule" from the start of the auctions so people cant bump their own items. ie no posting unless bidding as well  :sneaky:

But you have pointed out something carol also did and that at the mo you can miss in the text of the item that a starting bid amount has been set soooo
on our list to change is to force that starting bid into bidding system so that amount can only be the staring bid entered.
This will be an option that auctioneers can choose to do when putting their item up.

yes at the mo you can't edit your item once bids have started.
This is so the item that people have bided on stays the same.
I will see if I as admin can edit it for peeps if they need to change some details

Hi Julie

That's a wonderful item and purrfect for the auction :)

Our auction actually starts on 16th November  and all this at the mo is us testing a new auction system to be ready for when the auction actually starts next month.
So if you hang on to it and pop it in the auction when it starts on the 16th Nov, I am sure it will be a popular item bided on  ;D

There is a guide at the mo how to add items and bid that we are using to practice on the new system-  http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,45221.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,45221.0.html)
if you wanted to have a test run to add your item please feel free to have a go

any probs or if you need any assistance , post ere

very happy to hear what you think of the auction system as this is a new one and we can change things to suit  :)

Hi yes sadly cause we need the amount as an separate part to register the bid and not just in a text box like we used to post all in one post box, so we have to separate the amount box from the text comments box.

But   ;D we should be able to add into the comments section the amount that was bided with that comment :)  so when you look at the comments section below it will actually look like our old posted threads with bids in them like last year in the normal forum  ie will have amount bided and the comment by each members post.

Great idea and  gone on the to do list  ;D

keep em coming  ;D ;D ;D

Hi sue hun

Did ya click the enter bid blue button so the amount bis shows underneath then click the same button again? If so nothing will happen.
we are getting rid of the "Enter Bid" blue button  once the amnount box appears cause if you enter an amount and then click that button above, it does nothing but take you back to the item page. so we will get rid of that so it's not there to confuse.

To do a quick bid (bid only no comment )
-Click Enter bid button on the item page ( the amount box appears underneath)
-Enter an amount In decimal format
-click Quick bid button

To add a bid and a comment
Click Enter bid button on the item page ( the amount box appears underneath)
-Enter an amount In decimal format
-scroll down and enter comment
-click place bid & comment button

So the two buttons that save your bid are
Quick bid
Or
Place bid & comment

You use one or other depending if you want leave a comment as well as bid

Xxxxx

Items are listed in number of bids order  so new items that have no bids yet and lowest bid items are at the top and will be seen 1st

I will be shuffling the order throughout the auction every night or so so that things get swapped about a bit
I can do this very easily with controls in admin .

The list is also sortable in column titles  So anyone can view it in a duffernt sort order

Ie

If you wanted to look  at all the items in item name order -just click on the column title text ie "listing title"
This can be in assending or descending order just click the title again to switch between accending or decending

I've noticed there's an edit button but I've just clicked on it and a message comes up saying an edit can not be made because item has bids on it.

Mary

yes at the mo you can't edit your item once bids have started.
This is so the item that people have bided on stays the same.
I will see if I as admin can edit it for peeps if they need to change some details

Yes I can edit after bids have been made so if there is any changes needed to an auction item after bids have been made just pm me
If there is a significant change I will contact all bidders to see if they are still happy with the changed details  and their bid on it.

Hmm seems ok

Did you do a bid then type in comments box then click quick bid button or place bid and comment button

The comments will only be posted /saved if you click the place bid & comment button

If you click the quick bid button only your bid will be saved

We did the extra quick bid button option so at the end of the auction it's quicker to get a bid in

Items are listed in number of bids order  so new items that have no bids yet and lowest bid items are at the top and will be seen 1st

I will be shuffling the order throughout the auction every night or so so that things get swapped about a bit
I can do this very easily with controls in admin .

As the end of the auction approaches I've always relied on the master list as a means of tracking items I'm bidding on.  On the old system the latest item to be bid on always came in at the top of the list so this was relatively easy to do.  If it's now sorted by total number of bids (or alphabetically) I'm not going to be able to do that am I.  There could be items that have had loads of bids over the 2 weeks but don't attract any last minute rush and others that have not had as much interest but go berserk in the final minutes so everything will be mixed up.  HELP. What am I going to do?  :Dont know:  Please don't advise me to keep open tabs on all my items because I'm useless at that and the one time I tried it I lost out on everything. LOL.   Will I be able to work from the My Bids list?  Does it update instantly like the main list or is there a delay.

Tan thanks - I can see the blue button, and the auction items, but when I try to click on it to bid, nothing happens.  I'll give it a whirl on my Kindle and see if that fares any better.   Otherwise I'll just bid by Proxy  :evillaugh:

Well I've given it a whirl and think I'll get the hang of it OK.  I've popped a cuppla bids on and I've entered summat in test auction too.

Got a bit tricky attaching the pic to my auction item  :-[  I got a bit excited that the software resizes pics  ;D so I thought I'd test it out and tried to load original pic which is just under a whopping 5MB  :innocent:  Didn't work and software used the Purrs logo instead of pic.

Then I loaded smaller size pic 301KB and took me a while to figure out that I needed to make that pic the "main" pic to ensure the Purrs logo was replaced by the pic :phew:

Other than that, seemed to work OK for me :)  I use Chrome.

Rosella when I put pics on it took it a while for the pic to appear in the main box even though I had clicked on  to make it the main pic.  I thought it wasn't going to happen but then suddenly, Bingo, there it was.  :shify:

ok so when are we going back to the old way?  :evillaugh: :naughty:

Mary

lol, it's why we are having a test to see if this works and easy to use, We have things to adjust and can change things to make it better to use.
What things don't ya like hun? Love to hear ya opinion.  ;D

With using the threads the old way, of course we can still use that system but it really is alot of work and needs about 8 staff to work on it throughout the 2 weeks. One main reason is because we can't see the amount bided without going into each thread and copying and pasting all the info into a spreadsheet.  If we have about 200plus auction items (threads) it takes a long time to go through each one every couple of days.  At the end of the auction is also alot of work with at least 5/6 staff needed to update the spreadsheet, post on each thread wining bidder and final bid amount, then do the list so members know what to be paying etc.

what we are trying to do is have most of this all taken care of with new software, while trying to get it as close to doing the auction on the forum like pre years as possible.  One thing we need to do is split the amount bided from any text and we can't do that in the forum posts as it is all written as a text box.

For bidders on our old forum system, to bid we used to
1- Go into Auction section
2- Find & Click on the auction item to go into the thread.
3- Click the reply button
4- Type the bid amount
5- Type any comments or smileys
6 - click the post button

With this software
1- Go into the Auction via the button on top menu
2- Find and Click on the auction item
3- Click the "Enter Bid" Button
4- Type the bid amount in the amount box
5- Click the "Quick Bid Button"
or
5- Type in a comment or smiley
6 - click the place bid & comment button

so no more "work" to bid than the old system.

We are looking to change the layout of the bid page to make to simpler with other wonderful suggestions posted here.
It's why we wanted to test it all first to get your suggestions so we can change it to suit us. We don't have to get "put up with" set software as Steve knows how to code the software to change things :) php programming :)

If we are not happy with this new software, yes  :) we always have the option of going back to the thread system but with so much work,(  and Gilly will tell ya how much work it is :) )  so what we are trying to do is design a system that helps with the work.
It's why we need to here what peeps fink and if they can use it easily, to have it tested on different browsers and versions to make sure it works for everybody, what they liked form the prev auctions the way we used to bid etc that the new doesn't have , etc  so we can hopefully add/change things to suit :)

Good point about the "resize" pictures - it will size the pics to go in auction so all the pics look same size but we still need to limit the megabyte size cause of space on our host server. So will add this to the instruction

Thanks hun x

I can see if we can put the main list in last bid order for the end 2 days so it will be the same as the old thread system

If ya after certain items in last part of auction best to go by your bids tab page , that will list all the items you have bided on. So you can concentrate on just those
That page is in winning items at the top but maybe it's better to have this list without bided items at top so easy to quickly click into those items ?
What ya fink?

Hi hunnies

Please don't worry  :) it's why we are having you all test it with differnt browsers so we can fix it to make sure it can be used in all browsers.
So no one has to miss out

This is only the first test and trial of the software

We have already today changed the bid page so it looks more like the post page of the forum with only one button to enter the bid and easier to look at
We work on a copy on our own server then will upload the new improved to the live sight for you all to see when we have fini

Please don't think that this is it , we can change it to suit us and working in changes suggested now

Software mark 2 will be with ya asap sadly we can't work on it all the time as Steve has his own work and me has shop, family stuff.  I gotta get the shop Xmas stuff up yet lol I always late!!

You'll get an extra hour soon when we put the clocks back

No picture  - one comment
Box of Black Magic - three comments ( was testing to see if you needed a certain amount of characters to be able to have the comment show)

I used the & comment button - can't see my comments in either Chrome or Waterfox, not so important in the greater scheme, but does detract from the fun element the auction usually has.

Hi hun
yes it is important to us if comments are not being posted.

Please could ya try again for me on that same Black magic item to bid and then pop text or a smiley in the comments box then click the "place bid and comment" button.  and then let me know what happens ie nothing-page stays the same no reload?, does it reload with your bid and no comment.?, does the page relaod with no bid, any error messages etc

Thanks so much
Placed another bid with a smiley, page reloaded, but none of my comments showing. I can see 1 comment by CarolM and 2 by you. No error messages, pop ups etc.

What version of Crome  do ya have hun
And  waterfox
Waterfox 2.03
Chrome 32.02125.104.m

I will try and get Firefox downloaded and see if there is any difference on that

Ok thanks I use Firefox
Try also updating Crome as the latest one is 38.0.2

Sorry Tan is should have said 38.0.2  :-[ and have downloaded Firefox and that doesn't show my own comments either, but I can bid and it reloads the page with no error messages etc.

If that doent work will get Steve to look into it further

We have changed to only have one blue bid button on that page now and will load the new page asap.

I have a new version of chrome on my new computer and I managed to bid on that but I can't bid on my old one. It just does nothing when I hit the bid button.
Managed to upload pics on the old one but not the new one!!!
Is there a size limit on the pics you can upload?

It's down to the differnt versions of crome handling the Java script software language. We are adjusting :)

Browsers IE and Firefox  Verizons are handing the script better :)

Yes we have to set a pic size limit with so many pics that would be loaded because of our sever space
The max size for one pic at the mo is 800kb but you dint have to worry about the pixel size as that will be automatically adjusted to fit

Update 2 Auction software changes done

Biggest change is the simpler Auction item page layout where you now have a redesigned page so comments are moved up the page to see easier and only one button to click to bid and if wanted to a comment.
The place bid button now will post your bid and the comment if you wrote one at the same time.  You can enter the bid only then click the place bid button
or enter a bid then post in the comments box and click place bid
(as a rule with all our auctions ya cant post a comment only without a bid  :sneaky: )

So to bid it's quicker:-
1 - click on the item on the main page
2- enter bid in the number box (and comment if you want in the text box)
3- click place bid button

Ok we have also adjusted with the wonderful following suggestions made  :thanks:

1 Suggestion- Cant see new auction items in the main forum
- almost completed - Now we have a view only thread under the auction section of the forum called new Auction items which will post once when a new auction item is added in the auction software. There will be one post in that thread for each new item with a small picture and the title of the item only and a link to take you to that item's page in the auction.
These posts will be listed in your unread posts links at the top of the page, once read it will disappear from this list as usual like the other posts. (We are still working on changing the title to incl the new item title as well)

2 Suggestion- Make top menu Auction button different colour to stand out
- Fixed :)

3 Suggestion-  Cant bid on own items
- Fixed, you can now bid on your own item

4 Suggestion- Cant see which bid relates to which comment
- Fixed, Bided amount is now also in the comment post box. (We need to add pence amount -on our to do list ) You can also see a full list of bidding history by clicking on the no of bids text in the item page.

5 Suggestion- Staring price is not forced
- Fixed, Now you can force a starting price when adding an item, no bids under that price will be allowed.

6 Suggestion-  Search box cant search 3 letters
- Fixed, now you can enter 3 letters to higher to search.

7. We have also added in the My Bids tab a total of your winning bids at any time. So you can see the total as you bid and win or get outbid. This will help you keep an eye on ya spending :)

8 we have set a file size per picture to 350kb same as the forum so all pics need to be that or under . Sadly we do have to set a min file size due to space used on the server.

Please could you again have a go at adding items and bidding  so we can make sure it's all working as it should for all browsers
Please note that old auction items added before the update will not be adjusted with all the updates as they have already been listed.

and post ere with any comments, not likes, likes any probs etc   all is gratefully received  ;D

We do have a couple of things to change and that is to have the item title in the forum topic posts and to add pence on the comment section member bid amount  this effects view only .

Thanks everyone soooo much

Gilly is the way it's brought into the forum ok do you fink?

At the mo it adds a post into the thread "new Auction Items (read only) topic for every new item added.
Each post under this will show the new item and a picture of it with a link to go to that item.

In your unread posts link - it will show the topic title ie "New Auction item (read only)" when a new item has been added so like the other threads you would need to click the link to see the new items listed in the posts under that thread.

What we are trying to do and it's not easy but will try is to have the name of the new item in the unread post link  so people can see what new items are put up without having to go into the thread to view the posts.
But as ya know to change a thread title you need to change the last post title and then the 1st post title to save the new title. we can do the last post one but looking into also then how to automatically changer the 1st one.

question is do you fink that having a thread with with same title with all the new auctions items in each post under that thread is good enough

or we need to get the thread changed with the auction item title in it.

ie
previous years we have each auction item in it's own thread  so when you looked in unread items the thread title would be there so you could see the name of the item in your unread link. This i fink gave a bit of advertising on the forum say if a catflap was listed then someone who maybe didn't go into the auction would see their unread link the actual name of the catflap!

Tan this is nothing really to do with the auction but on my screen that appears as ?220 .  Should it by any chance say 220 pounds and if so, did you type it in correctly using the pound sign?  I ask because of late my posts are appearing with a question mark in place of the pound sign and also in place of the apostrophe even though I did not hit the question mark keyat any time  (honest  :shify: ).  In addition when I looked back on one of my Paws Inn posts today to check on something I found even weirder symbols in place of the apostrophe and they were fine at the time of original posting.

I think if possible you need to have the actual name of item showing cos I think I would just delete all threads just saying new auction items.

I know nothing about how all the coding and stuff works behind scenes but wonder if this can be done when a new item is actually added?

ie some one adds new item and it automaticalor ly generates a a post for our unread list??

One other thing how and where do I post the thread for selling pics of my cats. and feed a cat/chrissy dinner needs someone to cordinate with sunny Harbour, name a cat also needs to go some where with the selling pics.

Not very with it cos on top of all boiler hassle and big service to car last week its just failed MOT  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Yes ok that's what I fawt too ie to have the actual item title in the unread post link  and not just the thread same title.  Ok we will try and do this tomorrow :) If we do this it will automatically post the new item every time someone adds a new auction item in the auction software. :)

We can have all the Gilly pics of her wonderful gang, and Feed a cat etc in the thread under this board section as each a separate thread so as we used to do it :) So we just need to open a new thread under this board for each :)  And as these go on after the auction we can leave them open longer as we did last year for any more donations if wanted :)

The child board under the auction board in the forum called ' New items read only" is a read only list of new items when they get added in the main auction section under the auction button. Each item added to the auction will have a post under the read only thread and all that board is locked so there is no bidding /posts in there. (Yes only staff can go in and post as on any locked thread)

The read only list is purely as an advertising post of new items as they are added so for instance each new item will be posted once on the forum showing the new item added. This will also appear in your unread post link.

If you go into this new items read only you will see a separate topic for each item and in them the item name , some details and a blue "more info" which you can click to go straight to that item page in the auction main page.

Eeeek Tan, something has gone wrong, there is a listing of mine for a fridge magnet, one is fine but another has popped up with a picture of a brass bangle...can that one be removed? I have edited it so people know it is incorrect..how did that happen though, is somebody else's photo!

Jo, I reported similar thing early hours of this morning.  It said butterfly something or other and the pic was that darn bracelet :evillaugh:

I noticed this morning Tan had replaced the pic with a Purrs Cat Sign.

It is a lovely bracelet but it is certainly not a fridge magnet! Hopefully Tan will just delete the weird post. Was quite creepy really. In general I like the new system, just a few little gremlins.

Glad it happened to somebody else and not just me  ;)

Lol looks like we had the default pic as the bangle (ie when no picture is added on a new item it brings in a default pic)  Changed now to the Purrs logo pic. So If you don't upload a pic at the same time you add an item, the purrs pic will be put in.  You can edit the pictures at any time by going into edit pictures at the bottom of the your listing.

Simply upload the new pic, (make sure its under 350kb in size) and click add image. Then once it is added mark that pic as the primary image and delete the purrs logo one.

Of course it is easier if you have the pic all ready when you add the listing so you just need to upload it :)

If anyone has any probs resizing pictures for the Auction or (as it's the same for the whole forum) the forum, contact any staff who will elp :)

When someone buys an item you have placed in the auction, is their address sent to you so you can send it to them.

Julie, once the money has been received (cheques not bounced) you will receive a message saying you can send the item to the winner.

Once the person has won an item they send you a PM with their address.

No probs chuck. There's a lot to read so it's much easier to ask and get a reply from one of us that know straight away.

You update to received first then press the update status button.  It that what  you've been doing gill.  I forgot the update status first time and it didn't hold.

Maybe for next year there can be a button to press that lets you mark all your items sent in one go rather than having to go in to each one individually.  I only had 3 but what about you Tan, when you mark all yours as sent having to do them one by one?

Could it be as well as rather than instead of the current system.  I know I posted mine in two tranches, those who paid  and gave me their addresses early and those who were a bit later.  In fact I still have one who hasn't paid.  :shify:

Some ideas for next year...

Could the corporate sponsors send the items direct to save on postage costs and also time, it must have cost an absolute fortune to send the items - let alone the time involved in packing etc Obviously there is the risk that the sponsor doesn't send the item but this is the same risk as regular members putting items up for auction ie there's no guarantee they will send the item and in both cases the buyer can be refunded if nothing is sent. I know some corporate sponsors sent direct (one of my items came direct) but think the majority were sent to Tan first?

Ability to mark item as received even if the sender hasn't marked as sent, I received an item just a day or so after the auction ended but as it hadn't been marked as sent I couldn't close it off by marking as received.

Ability to mark item as received even if the sender hasn't marked as sent,
yes that would be good
