I've had mum cats and kttens down with mine before (and may well do again soon) as I found keeping the kittens in a spare room ddn't really socialise them well enough.

Do you have a pen?

I put them in a pen, covered for a day then uncover slowly over a day, leaving the top and 2 sides covered.

My last lot of kittens and mum ran riot and it was fine, though she was a socialable mum and only one of mine didn't toleate it well and kept out of the way.

Mum may well not like your others too much being all hormonal and protective! Generally its not good to mix cats but as you say they are a longer term project so slow intros will help you not to have 2 sparring units in your home.
You could speak to your vet about starting mums vaccinations whilst shes nursing if thats something that will help your mind. Are they generally all well, no sneezing, runny eyes or diarrhoea?

Think more pics are needed  ;) ;D

Thanks Gill.

My 2 cats are vaccinated but the mom hasn't been! so I guess I'll worry when everybody has been vaccinated. Thanks.

Kittens are one month and one week.

Yes I will keep the status quo now. Anyway they all seem happy playing/mock fighting/chasing the other cats in the territory...

Thanks for your input! very helpful.

Are your cats vaccinated ands is the mum cat?

I think the main worry would be that the mum maybe carrying something that she could pass on to your cats and the kittens may have it too.

They all look very healthy and know you have seen a vet, sothere may be no problem on this front and just introduction probs lol.

Introductions need to be done slowly and gradually and it doesnt sound like your cats are happy with the visitors at present. My thought would be to continue what you are doing until the hissing stops as first stage.

How old are kittens now? 4-5 weeks?

Question about introducing my 2 cats to the foster cats...

Hello Purrs friends,

Thanks for your great webpage and people. I love this site and learn much about my cats.

As you may remember I am taking care of a foster cat which had 5 kittens.

I dont know the age of the foster cat,  the Mom, but she seems older than 1 year.

My own cats are (approx):

Dolce - 1 year
Gabanna-  7 months

Foster cat and kitties (1 month and 1 week now) have been in their own room.

The Mom is looking restless and is always curious about wandering in the rest of the apartment. The kittens now walk and also show interest in going out their room.

Now Dolce and Gabanna hiss when they smell the brush for instance, when I used it on the Foster Cat (Trixy) before. They have seen each other from a distance and they don't look very happy.

I treat them the same way as usual so they don't get jealous so at least they are still happy with me.

Now the question.

1 Is it even a good idea to consider trying for them to get along ?

2 I know kittens are supposed to socialize with humans and other pets. When shall a kitten start to get used to other pets? How would I introduce them? right now I am using one blanket for the kittens and mom to use, then I drop it outside, it gets hissed by Dolce and Gabanna.

Right now only my boyfriend and me have handled the kittens and they hiss less, a few of them dont hiss at me at ll.

Mom, Trixy, Foster Cat is SUPER FRIENDLY and has not hissed to anyone or anything since I know her, always sits on our lap and behaves like a dog. Very very very very friendly even when she has seen Dolce and Gabanna for a moment, when I open the door.

Yesterday Gabanna was very close and didn't hiss, just kept looking at Mom and one Kitten but she had her tail down.

Ok hope I made sense! I know kittens should socialize between them and learn How to Be a Cat first.

But since I plan on keeping them all until everyone is neutered, I think it would be great if we could all be a Great Large family and we can all play with each other... it will be at least another 3 months....(I know they can be neutered at 4months).

Any tip is welcome, today they are ALL going to the vet to worm the 8 of them (deparasite? not sure about the word in english lol)

PS Can I say I LOVE my home full of cats?
