Hi everyone and  :thanks: this forum is full of great advice and has really helped my decision to become owned by my new cats ;D

Some info about me  :innocent:

My first cat Tipsy, came into the vet surgery after an RTA, I was doing my work experience there in my mid-teens.  She was not expected to survive but after lots of TLC recovered with just some balance problems.  I couldn't say goodbye after she recovered so adopted her and realised I'd never be a vet unless I had a zoo !

When old Tipsy went to the Rainbow Bridge I adopted Beau, a stray who was far more independent and lazy, he hardly ever played with toys and was a very unique person.  Beau went to the Bridge 2 years ago very suddenly after a routine operation.

In March I moved into very large but one-bedroom apartment.  I hoped to have another cat but worried the place wouldn't be large enough for it to be fair on them.  Unsure what to do I searched the net and found Purrs In Our Hearts which gave me a ton of helpful information about indoor-only environments and making them stimulating for our cats.  I still wasn't certain that my flat, even with modifications would be suitable, so kept my eyes open for expert advice.

Some weeks later an ad appeared on a local website for two young feral brothers which needed rehoming.  They were recovered from a local outdoor rifle range by Cat Action.  I went to meet the boys and ask the lady to come round and see if she thought my place would be suitable.  The next day she visited and said she expected they would be very happy to share my home.  3 weeks ago they moved in, and slowly but surely began to trust and bond with me.  Now we're almost family, and learning from each other every day.

I've only got the one pic at the moment of Hektor and Achilles the day they arrived but I'm sure there'll be more when I get a decent camera !

:thanks: again for all the good advice I've had already and the all the help I'm sure to need in the future  :naughty:

Richard, I adore Hektor and Achilles, the more so as you have used the classical greek spelling and not the romanised version!! (sorry student of the classics here) they are beautiful babes and we expect to see much more of them!! ;D

Welcome to Purrs, did you ever complete your veterinary studies?? sorry, curiosity killed the cat ...

I'm confused (no witty comments about how easy that is thankyou) but if I float my cursor over the names Richard comes up as 1022 so how does that work then?

Thanks for all the lovely  :welcome: messages.  I never got the grades to go for vet studies, so it's just a love of animals now.  H&A are both pure white with very sensitive pink ears and noses, and lovely green eyes.  A friend popped round with his camera tonight so I'll have some star photos in the other section very soon  :)

Hello again, Richard, we share the same fate - wanted to be a vet but couldn't make the grades. Still, in some ways that is a blessing in disguise (or so I tell myself) as you can have all the pleasure of helping the animals in your life without having to deal with the owners, which I discovered are actually more frequently the patients than the animals. I got it out of my system to some extent by a stint as a vet assistant (back in the dark ages when there was no such thing as a vet nurse, and if there was the local vets would have been too cheap to pay them). It opened my eyes a lot to the down-side of vet work which can be quite harsh at times. I do not wonder that some vets become desensitised and lose their commitment to the care of animals - it was probably there when they were young, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but got beaten out of them by the job ...
