Ollie has skin condition

It could well be an allergy I think. Our Uncle M had something simillar on several occasions which proved to be an allergy to harvest mites (wrong time of year for that for Ollie I know). Steroid injections cleared it up in his case but he was for ever after prone to it in late summer.

Clapton gets it occasionally - sometimes quite badly. The last time, the vet gave me steroid cream (or maybe gel) and a jab to stop the itching and it healed really well. He still gets little flare-ups. We think it is caused by stress but the vet is convinced it is flea allergy but we haven't had a single flea in 4 years.

ETA - I just looked back at the old thread and initially he was given steroid jabs but the vet didn't want to give any more due to his CRF. The last thing he had was Surolan cream - it is a steroid cream - it is anti-bacterial as well as "anti prurient" (stops itching) - either it worked or the skin got better anyway. I only managed to get it on him a few times.

Aww the poor love, hope that the skin will calm down now so he's is less stressed and they can find out what's causing this

Thanks everyone. Went to vet tonight and he has been given Corticosteroid gel for his skin. It has got a lot worse.

The vet is wanting to do a biopsy on his skin but not just now she wants to wait until he is more stabler and his phenobarbital dose has dropped so for just now i just need to keep him comfortable

I really feel for him itching. he lots of little bald sore patches. such a shame

I have to call the vet on Monday to update her.

Spoke to his neurologist and this is not known of but again epilepsy in cats not that common.

I will prob need to get him allergy tested. It's so strange he can be fine for weeks then
it flares up again. Feel so sorry for himjust want to make it better

Poor Ollie Are the meds he is on known for such side effects?

Hi peeps just wondering if anyone has seen a skin condition like this, Ollie is epileptic and is o Phenobarbital, Every now and then his skin is cuming out in lumps and bumps and getting red raw.

At first it was just on his head and he had a course of Prednisolone and it cleared up then he was ok for a few weeks then it flared up again, then ok again and two days ago its got quite bad again. last two times it was not so bad. We are not wanting to mess about with him to much with meds as vet trying to stabalise his epilepsy. There is no pattern to this, I think i will prob get him allergy tested. Called vet tonight but Ollies vet had left for day and i only like her dealing with him. i really hope its not the phenobarbital as it is helping him

Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this on a cat. The poor we soul is all itch and getting lots of bald patches where the lumps are due to scratching
