He is back to his old self today so the ABs are definitely doing their job! :) He even let me touch his foot today to check it with no grumbles and has been jumping about with his catnip mousey so panic over! He's back at the vet tomorrow at 6 to check all is well but I am confident he is on the mend which is fab news.
Only thing is I think he's going to be getting very annoyed with me as he's already scratching and winging to go outside and he's not allowed outside til his foot has healed properly. As I keep telling him though, it is for his own good! Not sure he believes me! :evillaugh:

Just caught up with this - I hope Monty is feeling better  :awch: :ahh:

Well I'm feeling very relieved cause he didn't eat this morning, even when I offered him stinky tuna- I know it isn't good for him but was a way to entice him to eat as he'd turned his nose up at breakfast. Monty is obsessed with food so I was really worried when he didn't eat this morning but he has just scoffed a whole sachet and asked for seconds so he's definitely feeling a bit better  :Luv2:

Yeah he's sitting next to me purring away after jumping up on the sofa himself.... this morning he would hardly get up and couldn't walk on it so shows why it's important to get them to the vets quick! I dread to think what the infection could have done if we'd left it.

Monty's Poorly Paw!
« Reply #1 on: February 08, 2010, 10:50:48 AM »
Well we were away Friday night and Saturday night and came home yesterday morning to our lovely babies. (Our neighbours look after them while we're away)  When I was sitting with Monty, I noticed one of his claws looked odd and on closer inspection (as close as you can get to my feisty boy who hates having his feet touched!!!) it looked like his claw had bent round and looked very different to the others and how it had just a few days previously. (I always make a point of checking his claws cause old cats are prone to ingrown ones- must to Monty's disgust!) It didn't seem to be causing him any pain so I made an appointment for today to have it checked. Last night it seemed a bit swollen so I was pleased I'd made the appointment for today as I was worried it may get ijnfected. He still seemed his usual chirpy self though and let me touch it. I would have got him to the emergency vet should he has seemed in pain but he seemed fine.
Well bless him, this morning I woke up to a very poorly boy- he was a bit down in the dumps and his foot had swollen to 3 times the size of normal and an absess had formed.  :( I immediately called the vet and brought the appointment forward to first thing and he's now been seen.
The vet thinks he had caught his claw on something and had bent it round, damaging the skin around it. The absess had then come up over night and had swollen around his claw. He has had AB injection and the vet had to cut the claw out. Bless him, he absolutely screamed but the vet was very good and did it quick. It bled a lot which is good as then the infection will start to pass. He has to have tablets for the next week and needs to go back Weds to check the foot. He already seems happier though and has just jumped up on the setee.
Because of his kidneys, he couldn't have any pain relief but he seems to already be more comfotable which is good news.
My poor old man! At least he is on the mend now.
