I've not tried it, because she seemed to stop crying when toileting. (She just cries the rest of the time now....poor Mog.)

 to both of you, JS.

Hi JS, sorry to hear that Mog is battling. For what it's worth, the american CRF group all seem to think lactulose is safe even in oldies and 2 different vets said likewise with my 2. Best dose is whatever it takes to keep them regular and comfortable. It can take a day to work so trial and error. Is she dehydrated as that would increase constipation.
A big gentle headbutt and stroke for your old girl

I know when the vet saw Zia she did say that their bodies can't absorb things as well when they get old - Zi is the same age as Mogs.

Ohhh, thank you so much for thinking of her. But to be honest, I think she might be "too far gone" for anything like that to help very much. might give it a go anyway.

I kind of think maybe things are just getting tired on her body now. I hate to think like that but I'm trying really hard to be practical about her age. I can't believe she's been with me 15 years, it's madness. :Luv:

Constipation can be along with poor kidney function, a couple of doses of lactulose may help short term but it wouldnt hurt to chat to the vet about her

I did see this and think of mogs

Thanks Gillian. Can't be sure but her ablutions seem to be very solid and she doesn't "do them" properly. I have to admit to thinking it might be her digestive system shutting down. I hope I'm wrong, but she's 20 this year so it's a possibility, I guess. :(

It gives a suggested dose on the Felinecrf site for lactulose here http://www.felinecrf.org/treatments.htm#constipation ,  seems to recommend starting off with a low dose of just 0.5 ml

I think Mog might have a slight case of constipation. She's very light these days so would giving her a really small amount of lactulose help her?
