Well, I was going to ask about naming my kittens.

But, I realise now that this forum dislikes breeding, and, since I've bred a moggy of all things, I'm beginning to worry I'd get flamed to death :)

Hi and a big :welcome: to Purrs

You are right that us Purrs peeps certainly like to encourage neutering as we support cat rescues who have to deal with so many unwanted beautiful cats and kittens but I don't think we've yet flamed anyone to death  :evillaugh:

We need piccies  :pic: and details of levels of nortiness  :naughty: of your little uns to arrive at appropriate names  :)

We share our home with 6.  Our youngest two came with their mom.  All from rescues.  This link shows our mob  :Luv:

Thank-you for your kindness.

I'm not sure how to embed images in forum posts, but I have a blog post with all the pics and vids:

Are we allowed to post links? If not, then apologies.

Not sure about nortiness, they are only 2 days old, although I saw the black one wrapped around Jazzies neck earlier. She looked really annoyed :)

The black one was born 12:01am, so the name 'midnight' is being tossed around.

As a side note, does anyone know how long it usually takes for them to open their eyes?

I see from your link that you intend to have Jazzie neutered and will be keeping her little uns for rehoming within your family i.e. not selling the babies which is good to hear  :)

She is very beautiful as indeed are her gorgeous little brood  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:.  Others have far more experience of such young kittens and hope you'll be swamped with good advice soon.  At only 2 days old I imagine it will not be easy to sex them so naming presents one or two difficulties atm methinks  :)

I think Midnight is a super name considering the colour, time of birth and OK for girls or boys  :Luv:

:welcome: to Purrs, JazzieTheCat: glad you found us and decided to join in.  We don't allow personal attacks on members here, so you won't get 'flamed to death' but I hope we can engage in a little education and persuade you and your friends to get your cats spayed and neutered rather than allowing them to 'have just one litter'. All the best with your new arrivals.

Welcome to Purrs, I run a rescue in Hampshire and my latest kittens were born on Saturday, so a little older than yours.  Kittens normally open their eyes between seven and ten days, so a few days to go yet.

 :welcome: Hi

Jazzie looks adorable and so do her little one's  :Luv:

Yup we do try to encourage Neutering/Spaying as we support cats in rescue but we won't shoot anyone.

Great that you have decided to have her "done" after  :) Contrary to popular belief it really is best for her health esp against Mammary cancer etc.  :)

Well, my apologies for being abrupt. Another forum I was on was incredibly rude before. I wouldn't have minded so much if they were only trying to educate, but telling me to feel ashamed was uncalled for.

Could anyone tell me how to edit my signature? I tried to but it was tiny writing. How did you make it larger text Sam?

And - another question if I may. What is that little hissing/panting sound the kittens make when they are disturbed? They do it when their siblings climb on them, or if they are handled sometimes.

The hissing/panting noise is exactly that, a hiss to say "I'm vicious, leave me alone" - their warning sound to danger.  It is very cute when they do it  :Luv2:.

Click on 'profile' and then on 'forum profile information'.  It looks small in the box there but it comes out standard font size (i.e. like mine below).

Thanks Lesley - thought it might be. Didn't think they'd do it to each other though :)

Their character traits are starting to come out. One of the tabby ones keeps bullying others off the teet he/she wants. Not much point though - there's more than enough to go round

And Jazzie keeps cleaning one of the grey ones - stomach trouble?

They hiss at the movement of their littermates, don't forget they can't see each other.  Don't forget mum is cleaning up all their poo and wee so she will do alot of cleaning of them and some pee and poo more than others.  I'd just keep an eye on the grey one if she seems to be spending more time on that one than the others.

Some kittens also have a preferred teat, so if another kitten gets on their favourite, they will push them off.

oooooh it's a secret! lol.  You need to put your html codes in.  At the begining of the text put the following code in (you will need to remove the spaces either die of the =)
[size = 16pt]    at the end of the text type in (again remove the spaces either side of the / ).    [ / size]

In regard to Jazzie and the babies one peice of advice I can give you ..... please DO NOT let Jazzie outdoors until the kittens have been weaned and she has been spayed.  If anything should happen to her and she gets lost or injured you will be left having to hand rear the babies and, more importantly, if she meets up with a Tom cat should could get pregnant again  :innocent:

It's okay. Catflap is locked, and she's used to useing the litter tray in the upstairs bathroom.

Funny thing: The loo roll is just above it on the wall. A couple of times she's clawed the roll and completely unraveled it over the litter tray to cover up her business...

Nope, can't do it. I think this tag has been disabled by admin for non moderators.

Thanks for the blog comment Sam.

Foggy sounds cool.

But it brings me to yet more questions if I may :)

How old do they have to be before I can tell the sex - and how?

Thank-you  ;)

How .... you need to lift up tail and have a look.  After about 8 weeks of age it should be easier.
