You've done a super job, I feel sure that it will help others to decide in favour of adopting an FiV pud.

Well done and thanks  8)

Woo Hoo I've finally done it!  http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?topic=8762.0

Have PM'd you LittleLijah as Louis pic was resized upwards so is a bit grainy, if you can send me the original size one that would be great and also Boysie's original size pic as he is a bit small.

Have also PM'd Schmew as Bobby's mugshot is nowhere to be found on Purrs so I couldn't steal his pic  :evillaugh:

Hi Helen,

Pix of Fizz on email - they were taken late September so are most recent ones we have.

I could write a few words if you like as a newbie - to say how helpful it's been to find this site and be able to discuss this openly, with others who, unfortunately, are in the same boat so have an understanding of what you are going through, the support etc without any predjudice etc?

Let me know if that would be useful.

Great, thanks Leigh  :)

Does someone with an FIV cat fancy writing a few lines as a short introduction?  Something along the lines of FIV cats can live perfectly normal lives, are no danger to humans or other non feline pets and just require a bit of extra care.  Was then going to put something about how if anyone has an FIV cat and needs some advice or reassurance then owners from the FIV register may be able to help based on their similar experiences.

Ooh, also if those who are going to be on the register could email (address in my profile) me a nice pic of their FIV cat looking the picture of health and gorgeousness I can pop those on the thread too  :)

If I've missed anyone who has an FIV cat or has experience of FIV cats and would like to be on the register then please PM or email me  ;D

Great idea Helen,

I'd be delighted to assist in any way that I can. Our cats are a great advert for FiV cats and our experiences with them a source of assistance to others considering adopting an FiV cat so I'm behind the idea 100%.

Best wishes

Leigh

That's a fantastic idea - this site has been really helpful in the few weeks since I found it.  LittleLijah's advice on Fizz's eye condition being Uveitis really helped as I could then see what we were dealing with.

If I can help, I will. :)
Luv & hugs,

Ignorance in this case is definately be bliss and hope it stays that way  ;D

However some do know and have lots of experience and I think its a great idea so they can pass their knowledge on.

Fab idea Helen, count me in (or well done for already counting me!)

When I found this site last year (well, Cat chat nearly a whole year ago) I was so happy to find others with FIV cats, it was actually quite an emotional experience, especially having just lost my Ben and finding Bobby on the forum.

:thanks:  well for the time being I shall presume that ignorance is bliss, I dont know whether mine have it and I am not sure it would make a lot of difference if I did.

I think a lot of owners never actually know their puds have FIV to be honest.

I think the majority of us owners on here have adopted cats from rescues, where they are often tested when they are picked up, particularly if they are strays, and almost certainly if they are entire males, as these are top of the list in the fighting pile so more likely to have been exposed to it (its passed on mainly through biting, saliva entering the bloodstream).

Most owners wouldn't normally test for FIV unless the animal is ill, which is often when it has progressed a little for symptoms to come out.

How would we know if our cats have FIV?

If we do not know, do we need to know?

Have seen quite a few questions on FIV recently and was thinking how a sticky thread with the usernames of Purrs people who have or have had FIV cats would be good.  That way the new poster could PM the names and ask if they could take a look at the new thread to see if the their FIV experiences may be able to help.  Obviously no-one would be obliged to reply but hopefully they may have something helpful or reassuring to add to the thread.

So far I can think of, there's proabaly more but that's all that is in my very tired little head at the moment!
