Title: Home needed urgently for kitten - NW England
Post by: Catwhisperer on November 23, 2006, 12:17:02 PM
 :'(

Can anyone help me rather urgently. A freind of mine bought a kitten a few months back and now she no longer wants it as her boyfreind has bought a Puppy ! :censored:
I can take it in for a few days, as the OH will moan and also we are due to pick up our new Jack Russell in a few weeks. So as you can gather it will be a bit hectic here with a new kitten as well. I'm really annoyed about this as I told her to wait and make sure she really wanted one and then I would get her one from a rescue, but no she went right a head and bought from a pet shop !
I would be really grateful if anyone could help, I'm in Liverpool. I have to go out now to see her but if you lkeave me a message I WILL get back to you.
PLease Guys, I know how GOOD you are at Miracles !!!!!! :Luv:

Is it male or female? Could transport be provided? I MIGHT know someone dependant on its temperament. She already has a very bossy tom, so if it's nervous then it'd just get bullied. :(

 ;D
Hi Jack, The kitten is a she cat, called Mitzy. She is black with white paws and a white splodge on her nose. She is very cute and seems to be quite lively. Not at all shy and seems to attack everything in sight.
I don't have transport so depending on where you live, we would have to come to some arrangement.
Have spoken with my freind and she is dithering about whether she wants to get rid of her now, but I think she probably will. If you are still interested you can send me your email and I can get back to you when I know for certain.
Thanks LIZ X

How old is the kitten?

I'm basically full here :shy: but if it's life or death she's welcome to my shower room...

As I said my freind is now dithering about what to do, but I think she will want to get rid. Once I know for certain I will get back to you.
Thanks again, LIZ X

:( Hi All, I'ts me again ! My freind has been back in touch & she is now wants to rehome the kitten.  :(

Anyone out there who can help ? Know its a pain at this time of the year but I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important. Her OH is getting on to her about the kitten & I'm a bit concerned as to what they may do. I'd keep her myself but as you may know we are picking uup our new Pup in 2 weeks so its pretty hectic here with all the rest !

Thanks Liz

Ok, Sweetness is in Hereford and the kitten is in Liverpool. How far apart are they? (Geography is not my strong point and I'm not having a good day!)

It's about 115 miles along bad roads... the AA reckons over 3 hours drive so very much not ideal, especially for a young kitten.

Hereford is sort of halfway between Bristol and Birmingham btw. Ish.

Can't stay on here now the tutor is back so will have to go if you get any help great. I'll speak with you when I get home about 4.

Steady on, Sweetness :)

It's great that you want to offer this baby a home BUT there are a few issues.

One of the big problems is that it's really not good for a little kitten to have to do such a long journey - it'd be better for a home to be found locally.

Another thing is - and this is nothing personal whatsoever - that ideally you would have a visit from someone to check where this kitten would live - that's especially important given the distance this little one would travel to be with you.

Is anyone friendly with the staff at Cats Protection Hereford branch at all? That'd at least sort the second problem  :shy:

You took some of the words out of my mind, I personally would not have too much of a problem with the distance. although a carry case is a must. I would however, have a problem if no home visit was done. While it is appreciated that you have offered a  home  a home visit is essential. This was agreed by all on Cat chat a few weeks ago. Obviously for those that are already involved with rescue it may be a little different.

Hi Sweetness, Thanks for the kind offer. To all those mentioning home checking, obviously before we embark on a big journey I would be checking where she was going.

Sweetness, could you provide me with the name of the rescue centre you foster for.  Hope you don't mind me asking but for the sake of Mitzy (the Kitten) I would like to make sure she was going to a home who understood what they where taking on.
Thanks Liz x

My thoughts a while ago but I was unable to post for some reason

In that case all you would need to do is  advise who your co-ordinator is so that it can be confirmed. I am sure you will appreciate as you are involved with this valued job that this course of action would be necessary, should you be able to have the kitten.

Do you have dogs in now, if so would it be wise to take in a little kitten?

I have nothing against dogs and cats together (although I do not like boarding cattery's where there are boarding kennels) but with rescue dogs you do not always know the temperament.
Title: Re: Home need Urgently for Kitten

yes and that fell through because some people decided that i lived too far for the pregnant mummy cat to travel and so the cat went to a rescue a little nearer

;D Hi Carole, I've just spoken to The rescue & they assured me they would be happy for you to take the kitten, if that is still OK.

As I said I have no transport & have never done this kind of thing before so we would need to sort a relay or something.

Can anyone help ? Liverpool to Hereford.  Carole you'll have to advise exactly where.

Cheers Liz

Please dont take this the wrong way sweetness but I have read on another thread that you have got a young Jack Russel, a bengal cat and 4 kids - it might all be a bit much for little Mitzy, she is going to be unsettled being rehomed and might be overwhelmed.

Just thinking of the kitten

BIG  to Sweetness for her kind offer.  :Luv:

Can anyone near to or in Liverpool please try & think of anyone who will be suitable and is looking to rehome or foster an adorable little black & white Kitten, called Mitzy.

I know it is a lot to ask at this time of year but lets hope the Christmas spirit moves the right person to offer her a FOREVER home !

Thanks All LIZ XXX

Hi Liz

It's a shame that the Hereford possibility didn't work out but I think in the end the correct reasons came through.

I hope you don't mind but I've altered the topic title to add the 'NW' bit - hopefully that will encourage someone local to come forward!

Within my own limits I'd be very happy to help with transport when you do find somewhere for the little'un.

BIG  :Luv: to Carol/Sweetness for the offer - I am sure there are many many needy cats who will be most appreciative of your help a little nearer home - had you considered maybe offering your services to your local Cats Protection? A lot of cats that need fostering do quite nicely in an outdoor 'cat chalet' that is installed in your back garden - that'd be a good solution if you have a few dogs around the place! :)

Nowadays CP do not like cats to mix with any owned cats. so unless a person has a spare room a 'cat chalet' is the answer. A couple of the reasons are CP cats should not be allowed out, (long term ferals excepted) also when you take in rescue cats you just do not know if they are harbouring anything e.g FeLV, FIV, FIP ( and visa versa), a persons own cat becomes ill and then they claim from CP saying it is the foster cats fault

Can I just add my twopence worth to this? I know people who work with HWAR and they are by far one of the best rescues in this country for dogs and cats :0)

I live by Chester and already have a speyed girlie. I am due to rehome a kitten in the new year too. I work part time and my cat has the run of the house. If you think my home life would be suitable, Mitzy is more than welcome here.

Just out of interest do you have kids/dogs/Daleks/a safe garden/the M6 going past your doorstep?

Cheshirecat seems to have fallen out of the contact radar and obviously with this one being pretty urgent it wouldn't be reasonable for Catwhisperer to wait for her to turn up before asking if it was OK to move this kitten to safety.

Presumably, the kitten will be up for rehoming from its new sanctuary and I would urge CheshireCat or anyone else interested to look into offering her a home after Christmas.
