Is raw mince meat ok then?

Mince meat is fine, but it doesnt do much to keep their teeth clean and their jaws exercised - chunks are better  :)

Thanks hun

Cats have shorter, quicker digestive tracts and stronger stomach acids so the chance of nasty germs is much less for them.
My lot have some steak defrosting at the moment, it will disappear in a flash  ;D

Jaffa would sell his soul for raw chicken.  Whenever I cook with chicken I have to cut some off for him first otherwise I'd be in big trouble.  Mosi is getting to like it now too.

So I gave Jameson some raw chicken today, but he didn't seem overly excited about it. He ate it, but didn't harrass me afterwards for more (like he does when I get the prawns out). I'm quite glad because I don't particularly like handling raw chicken (Jameson also kept moving it out of the bowl and on the floor which made me paranoid and had to scrub and disinfect the floor afterwarsd!) so I think I'll stick to giving him raw mince only in the future. (and of course cooked prawns and chicken) . Easier!

Will try it tonight, and will remember to feed it room temp.

My Benglies all eat raw but I always freeze and defrost before giving it to them in the hope that the freezing will kill any nasty germs

First off - is it ok to feed a cat raw chicken?

I have never fed Jameson raw chicken (only raw mince) - is there anything I should know, like for example can I feed the meat off the bone or should I just give him the meat?

I'd start with boneless chunks if he hasnt tried bone before, then try him with bones once he's got used to chewing chunks. Mine love the free range boneless chicken thighs, but I've only got a couple now who can manage the bone-in thighs as they others all lost teeth (after years of feeding dry food!) Raw chicken wings are good to help keep his teeth clean.  I'd recommend cutting wings into 3 first.

You can feed him raw chicken with the bone  :wow: Try him with something like a chicken wing.

Forgot ... cats like their food warm. It might be best to leave it out to get it to room temperature before you feed him.
