Title: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me
Post by: Shirley on September 20, 2009, 08:20:51 AM
Thought i'd start a new thread about my grey baby (GB) He was rehomed from Cramar cat rescue on 14.8.09 on a trial basis, but escaped after just over a week! There is a huge area of woods behind the house and Janet  (manager) and i have been over to have a 'whistle' for him, but no sign. On Friday, the new owner rang me to tell me he'd seen a grey cat and, when he whistled, he turned round, but then went back to 'hunting' in a bush! Mr. CDS didn't want to get too close in case it spooked him, as he was fairly close to a main road.....................
I decided to go over myself and have a whistle, but, as it turned out, i was in the wrong area, so knocked their door. So now i've met his new owners! Mr CDS took me to the correct area and we stayed for about half an hour, but no joy!
GB is still very timid, although he had started to let other people stroke him in the week before he was rehomed.
Any sightings, please let me know. Thanks.
I'll put a pic on when i've shrunk it enough!

Thanks Bazsmum, i just wish he could settle! Sometimes i think i might've been as well leaving him at work and popping in once a day to feed him, but, at the time, work was so bad, everyone was expecting it to close down but it's still going, 6 months later! Then, if i had left him and mommy cat, i'd never have known she had leukemia, and she would've had a horrible death wouldn't she? x

Thanks Janeyk x

Thanks Sheryl!

Yes, Gill, the cds's have been leaving food out ever since he went missing, most of the time it was being eaten, but it could have been anything couldn't it? He was only there a week, would he know where to go back to?  If it was him last Friday, it was quite a way from the house, could he still get back there?

In reality "yes" he could get back there.....was where they think he was sighted anywhere on the way back to Cramar by and chance?

Tosker was here only 12 hours or so but he stayed around, enough to find the food left out for him

I think any cat which has once lived on its wits instinctively looks out for a regular food source

Post by: Shirley on September 22, 2009, 08:24:52 AM
Hi Bazsmum-i am completely useless with finding my way around-it took me nearly 4 months to find my way to and from Cramar without getting lost lol! I think where he is now is about 6 miles from Cramar, but only 5 mins from the house (?) I might go over tomorrow and have another look-too shattered today-did a trial to be a volunteer at a cattery close to me yesterday (and passed!) but i ache everywhere now and am so tired! I am SO unfit lol! x

Hi Trigger, that's amazing, let's hope GB is the same, but they never see him-if he is going back for the food, he must be in and out like a flash! They do work all day, but put the food out at night x
Title: Re: Grey semi feral missing from Lodge Park, Redditch now!
Post by: Kay and Penny on September 22, 2009, 12:18:12 PM
I don't suppose they have security lighting, do they, Shirley? - I was just thinking if they could put food out somewhere where the light would go on when something comes for it they could maybe get to see if it is GB

I used to sit in the enclosure with food just outside it, and wait and wait - Tosker started by coming only after dark - which was after 10pm in May, but gradually got earlier - only twice did I have to go to bed without seeing him

I do think it is vital some way is found of finding out if it is him eating the food - if another cat, or a dog or fox, is coming every night then GB could be miles away - I know that isn't what you want to hear, but this feeding and not seeing strategy could go on pointlessly for months

Well done for passing your trial Shirley!  :wooooo:

Would maybe some flour or whatever near the bowl on a dry night show the prints of whoever is eating it? This is such a palava and bless you for you really cant rest till you know for sure!

If they did know it was him then at least you could all relax and take it from there! Have they any outdoor shelter provided for him?

Hi Trigger, if it was my house, i would be doing exactly as you did, but, as i've only met the cds's once and had one phone call, i don't really know what they're doing! I did suggest your idea of putting food closer to the house and he said he would, but as i'm even further away than i am from Cramar, i haven't got a clue!!!!

Hi Bazsmum, thanks!  Would putting flour down just show ANY cat prints tho? I don't know if they sit by the window looking or anything!
Title: Re: Grey semi feral missing from Lodge Park, Redditch now!
Post by: Bazsmum on September 22, 2009, 14:18:48 PM
Yes any cat prints, but also it could rule out foxes or whatever, at least it would be narrowed down!  ;)

This is quite hard as your not there constantly and as you have only just met the CD's it would be a tad awkward!

Post by: Shirley on September 22, 2009, 16:28:35 PM
Janet had done 3 posters which we took on Thursday. On Friday, one had been taken down!!!! No fliers yet, she's SO busy there! Wish i was still at work and could get something done, tho' may hand write a few for tomorrow. x
Title: Re: Grey semi feral missing from Lodge Park, Redditch now!
Post by: Shirley on September 23, 2009, 18:52:35 PM
Had another unsuccesful trip today. All 3 posters have now been taken down! I put about 2 dozen fliers through letterboxes, but there are so many houses around there, it was a drop in the ocean.
Had a whistle where he'd been possibly seen last week, but no joy. Went back to the woods behind the house and bumped into Mr Cds-he'd come home for lunch-he said the food is being eaten sometimes and he whistles morning and night! The area is so vast tho, it really is like looking for a needle in a haystack! Hope the fliers bring some info, but i'll have to go back with some more anyway!

 :tired:

Ive heard if you attatch the posters with either cable ties or duct tape they should have a better hold, also if there's a local shop maybe pop a poster in the window when Janet gets back!  ;)

The nights are slowly drawing in now so its gonna be a day job, most cats sleep through the day so its gonna be rather hit and miss!

More positive vibes being sent and I do hope you get some joy from your posted fliers!

If Janet can lamanate the posters that would be great too!  ;)

Hi Bazsmum, the posters we'd put up last week WERE laminated, but they were deliberatly taken down-the drawing pins are still there!!!!!! Funny you should say that about a poster in a shop-Paul's dad suggested the same thing when we got back! There are a few shops at the end of the estate, which i assume most people would use.  Paul's son is going to print off some 'proper' fliers for me today!
Thanks for the support again! x

Post by: Shirley on September 27, 2009, 08:19:23 AM
Hi all, i now have nearly 200 fliers!!!!! Hope there's not THAT many houses lol! Hoping to go tomorrow.
I had a call on Fri night, in response to my fliers, from a lovely, cat-mad lady who's daughter had seen a grey cat, but with a collar. They will keep looking-i emailed her a pic of him.
I got in touch with the CDS's just in case they HAD put a collar on him, but no. His wife had seen a grey cat in the same area as they'd seen 'him' last Friday, so they will concentrate there!   :sigh:

"Dont you think he is famous enough" Lol Bazsmum!

Another day of not seeing him-we went twice to the area he's been 'spotted', but all we saw was a few pigeon feathers! Mrs CDS was driving towards her house as we got there and pulled over-she's almost sure it's him cos of his long, thin tail! Then she asked the 64 million dollar question-"how do we catch him if we see him?" Mmmmmmmm!

We used a lot of the fliers and  put up a poster in the local Tesco at the end of the estate. I also went into the vets-opposite Tesco-and they took his details!

I think i've now done everything i possibly can, being so far away, so i just hope someone will ring to say they're feeding him and he'll settle there!

I think you're right, Shirley

he's chosen his way of life, it seems, and he is at least now in the sort of area where he might well find somewhere to shelter and be fed if he wants it

you have tried so hard, but it looks as if the B of GB stands for  :censored: after all

....And I bet you have not had much sleep in near 6 months either!

This boy is certainly a wild one in the sense he loves the outdoors!  :sneaky: Im sure he has learned to search out some food, while searching for one of mine earlier (a couple of months ago) I came across loads of cats and they always seem to congregate together or follow the same food source path at least! Im sure he is fine where ever he may be.... :ahh:

Have to say i haven't worried about him as much this time, as i know he CAN survive on his own, but now the weather's turning colder........

When he went missing for 5 weeks at the end of May (and was being fed by Penny across the road!) i was making myself ill-i already felt bad after taking him to Cramar and realising he wasn't going to settle, i was a wreck, crying all the time, but i've told myself i've done everything i possibly can to give him a good life and to try and find him, and can only hope all the publicity  produces a good ending. I'll never forget about him tho'.

I agree with Baz Shirley, cats will find food and as I've seen myself ferals are very good at seeking out other ferals and latching on to them or finding where they are getting fed  ;)  I can understand your worry though

as far as Tosker's concerned, he is part of a group of three - unfortunately for him the other two are quite happy to remain a group of two :evillaugh:

but he's wearing them down by following them everywhere - only my lap is safe for them still

Hi all, i had a call on Friday (as a result of the newspaper ad) from a man who says he's seen a grey cat in his garden a couple of times, and as we spoke, the cat appeared and sat on the fence!! He said he gets a lot of cats in his garden, even tho' he's not 'an animal person'! Has a lot of trees and bushes. He says he's  near to Lodge Park, but i didn't catch the area! I asked him if he would start feeding him in his shed and he will (tho he's got no food at the mo!)  If he catches him, i'll go over with Janet and a cage, if only to identify him!
He wouldn't give me his address tho-says 'you've got my phone number now' He was going to try to get a pic of him and send, but didn't.
Janet says to be careful and , if he rings back, keep mentioning 'my husband' lol
Fingers crossed!

LOL Baz, it must be a laugh a minute in  your house!    :Party 3:

Another wasted trip (and i got lost on the way back!!!!!) Went with Paul to pervy's street and there's no way GB would be there! There's about 100 houses between there and where he went missing from- surely he'd find one before his to feed him, especially as Mr Perv wasn't! There are no woods around either for him to hide in-plenty everywhere else tho'.
We put more fliers in the houses across the other side of the pool and went back to the grassed area where Mr CDS has poss seen him twice, but nothing at all!!    :'(

LOL l Basmum-again! No calls, not even from 'the text maniac'. GB seems to have really disappeared this time-it's been 7 weeks now    :'( I just hope he's found a 'friend' or two or, better still, a person to look after him!

Things ok here, my beautiful Ollie still no trouble, i'm still out of work and enjoying the rest (but not the lack of money!)
Had a volunteering job at a local cattery-only went 3 times-but given it up today! Can't stand to see them in the pens, even tho i know the alternative's a 100 times worse, i was an emotional mess!

Thank you! I feel so guilty letting them down, but as you're cleaning one pen and the cat has a little walkabout, there's another 8 cats crying to come out! It's just awful! There's not really time to cuddle them either, cos there's so much work to do. The owner put a notice in the Job Center the other day, so hopefully, someone will come along who's not as daft as me!    :Sad Bye:

As for GB    :catplay2:  Here's hoping!

Hi all, had another trip over to Redditch on Monday. Spoke to a few dog walkers and the postman and gave them fliers, as well as a repeat posting of them. One of the dog walkers said he'd seen a grey cat last week almost at the back of the CDS's house  in the 'woods' and one of his 3 dogs, chased it! I'm not getting my hopes up tho' cos there is another grey cat that lives in the CDS's street!
GB will be readvertised in the local paper on Friday, but i've been waiting since 25th SEPTEMBER for some bloke at the Council to ring me back-he's the only one who has a list of cats picked up on the road............. Everytime i ring, he's never there. Surely the list must be on a computer, therefore other people can get access to it?? Grrrrr!
I also went into the local Tesco to see if my home made poster was still there-i was told they don't put A4 posters up, only their own cards!!! So why did they have it off me then?????? Grrr again!
This is the only time i wish i was at work so i could (sneakily!) get some posters done!!!

FINALLY had some news tonight! A lady rang to say a grey cat has been in her mom's garden for a couple of days, and when she whistled, he came towards her, but ran off. As we were speaking he came back, so i asked if she would feed him. I rang her back and she'd given him some biscuits, but he'd gone again. It really sounds like it's him, so she will keep me in touch with what's happening. She doesn't want to take him on as she has adopted a poorly stray already! She said he looked well looked after and his fur was in good conditon-after 8 weeks missing?? There's probably an abundance of mice over there or someone else hasn't been able to resist him! I offrered to take some food over tomorrow, but she didn't know what she was doing!! I've texted the CDS's-hopefully he'll have a walk down, even if it's just to ID him! Streangely enough, it's the same street as Mr. Weirdo!!

Went to the lady's house today (AFTER i'd discovered i'd left food and pushed a note through the letterbox of the WRONG house!! )    :-[
She invited me to have a whistle in the garden, but there was no sign of him! She is not willing to feed him, even though i said it would only be for a few days to get a regular feeding station so that i can come back and catch him, but her hubby won't allow it, as she's already feeding a poorly stray!  She says maybe one of the other neighbours is feeding him as he can get through from one garden to the next, so i used the last of my flyers in her street. Disappointed, but what can you do?     :sigh:

Glad you found the right house but how frustrating knowing they wont feed him!  I know what I would say if I had a hubby like that!  :P

Lets just assume someone else must be falling for his charms cos something must be keeping him in the area!  ;)

I found it funny too-after i found the food was still there tho' lol

Re. the hubby-me too!!!!!!

I still don't know if it IS GB at the house, but the way he went towards the lady's daughter when she whistled, but then ran away when he realised it wasn't me(?) makes it seem very possible!

All i can do now is hope for some calls, but i need to get more flyers done to finish her street-a lot of houses!-someone on CC had done nearly 200 for me, but i couldn't ask her again!

I do have a feeling its GB Shirley, dont ask me how I know cos that I cant explain!  :shify:

Do you have a template for your flier's Shirley, How big are they etc? I dont mind doing you some if that would help just I live a bit far away and know that there's a postal strike on later in the week!  :tired:

What about your local library, they would be cheaper than the PO!  ;)

"What about your local library, they would be cheaper than the PO!"

Sorry you've lost me there-cheaper for what? You have to remember i'm very old and slow, so need things explaining in great detail  lol!

I haven't got a template, just had a simple message put on bits of paper about 4" square. Thanks for the offer but it may be cutting it fine with this PO strike!

I had a call from another lady in the same street i went to yesterday. She thinks she's seen a grey cat in her garden, but can't be sure of the colour. She has neighbours cats come round, so she knows it's a different one. The most important thing is , if he comes back, she's willing to feed him for me-yaaaahhh!!!!!

Hi Bazsmum,

Finally got the call from the Council this morning (only been waiting since 25th Sept!) They haven't picked up a grey cat, so that's something!

I told the new lady he answers to a whistle, but heard nothing from her (or anybody) today.

Didn't know the library printed fliers-will look into that! xx

I live opposite a fishing pool, with rats   :yuk:   and that's where he came from on Sat night so vet is as sure as he can be-he was convinced it wasn't another cat as there weren't the 2 puncture wounds of a cat's fangs!
Have to take him to my vets tonight for more meds-MORE money i don't have!! He is insured but i had to borrow the money yesterday-£116!!!!! -and there's a £50 excess! My son is transferring some money to me today for his 'furry brother' as he calls him and said i needn't pay him back, bless him!

Still no news on GB    :(

Is Chuchy feeling better then now do you think?

Do you know GB is the kind of lad to pop up from no where when you least expect it....Its really hard for you and I do feel it such a pain that Redditch is so far away for you....Wishing you a sighting and a windfall!  ;)
Title: Re: Grey semi feral missing from Lodge Park, Redditch now!
Post by: Shirley on October 27, 2009, 06:59:26 AM
Chuchy's back to normal now thanks, which is amazing considering how poorly he was 2 days ago! He didn't like the temp check last night, whereas on Sun he didn't care WHAT was done to him! He also had 2 injectons and DEFINATELY didn't like the 2nd one-he went mad, trying to bite, hissing ,growling and rolling on his back! The vet (a locum) said she could almost say for sure it WAS a rat bite as he went so poorly so quickly! He got me up at 3.45 this morning to go out, so yes, he's better...........................................!

Hope you're right about GB. I feel i want to do one last flyer drop, but can't afford to get them done! Just had a thought tho, maybe my Dean can do some? I'll have a word!    :evillaugh:

Im sure your lovely son will sort you out Shirl with fliers, is he due to see you soon?  Another flier drop cant do any harm!  ;)

That's the problem, being so close to the pool (lovely scenery, tho') but i've lived in this street for 8 years and had Chuch for 6 and it's the first time it's happened. I keep telling him to keep away from the water now!

I asked my son, Dean, about the fliers and he said ok-i didn't think he had a printer, but he bought one last year! He's coming home on the 7th November. I've also got a girl at my old work doing some laminated posters for me-hopefully she can do it without getting caught!

Hiya! Well, the girl who was doing the posters hasn't got back to me yet-hope the BIG boss man didn't catch her-oops! I'll email her tomorrow but don't want to be too pushy-since all the redundancies they've piled loads of work onto her!

My son, hopefully, will have done my fliers by the time he comes home this weekend!!!   :crossed:                       GB will be in the local paper for the THIRD time on Friday!

Spoke to my ex boss (no, not THAT one lol  :drool;   ) today and he's convinced GB will have found himself a home cos he's so good looking! He was the one that used to buy the food for all the cats we had at work and absolutely LOVED GB and his mommy. I hope he's right............... :scared:

I've been busy with my 'Greek furry' appeal for the last couple of weeks, so that's kept me occupied and not worrying about him so much, tho' the weather is pretty grim now........... :(

HI All, I'VE FOUND HIM AND TAKEN HIM BACK TO CRAMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!         :Party 3:

It was a miracle i did tho-a second later and i would've missed him!!!! Paul (my 'friend' ) and i had just put another 100 fliers in letterboxes, posters in the pub, shop, on lampposts, trees when he suggested we put a couple of posters near the CDS's -just to remind people-this is about half a mile from where we'd just been and where the last possible sightings had been. We drove up to their street, got out the car and Paul said 'There's a grey cat', which went into a bush on someone's garden. I started whistling and he came out!!!!!!!! After a lot of fuss and getting him to follow me to their house, they weren't in! Arrrgh!! What now?? I hadn't taken the carrier with me cos i never in a million years expected to see him, so i had to be brave and pick him up!!! He hardly struggled at all and i took him back to the car and threw him onto the back seat with Paul!!      GB was brilliant-he either lay on the parcel shelf, or on the passenger side floor, by my feet or on my lap being fussed for the 6 mile journey to Cramar!!!! Ooops!   :evillaugh:
He's now in a pen waiting for a blood test  cos he's been out so long, so i don't know what's happening to him after that. I wish he could be happy in the Paddocks or, if he's rehomed, a 100% guarantee he can't escape!!! I'll speak to Janet on Wednesday.
I just burst into tears when i left him!
Thanks to everyone for your support all these weeks!
As soon as i got back i had to take my best friend  with her cat to the vets and he was pts-supected brain tumour, he's only 10, so that knocked me back a bit.

Thanks Helen, 11 weeks and 2 days he's been missing and 5 weeks the time before-talk about stress!!! I still can't believe how close we were to not seeing him-if i'd gone on my own, i wouldn't have gone to the CDS's street, but Paul's always thought he would have stayed around there and he was right! (And he's not a cat person lol!)

that's wonderful Shirley - and really so unexpected - it must have been him eating the CDS's food - I wonder where he's been sleeping?

he really needs a cat proofed garden, doesn't he, even perhaps with a nice outdoor enclosure so he could be brought in at his own pace and choosing

Thanks Trigger, yes, that would be ideal for him-do you know anyone lol? I would doubt he'd have been eating their food, in fact i rather think they stopped putting food out after the first few weeks!
I took a couple of photos when he was back at Cramar in the pen:

I thought that Sheryl - but he could be checked for a chip if he's having blood tests

if someone did take him in they ought to have chipped him or put a collar on - and from what Shirley knows of him it seems unlikely he has been living in a house so soon after escaping

I know, Bazsmum, it's UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!             :wooooo:         I thought i was seeing things when he came out of the bush! x

Funny you should say that, Sheryl, Paul (jokingly) said 'I bet some little kid will be missing him later!' So now, i'm worried again with you thinking the same thing! Although, i'm not completely sure he was going to that house-it's the end  one in the cul-de-sac and there's a path at the side leading to the walkway  by the 'woods'. There was a gap in the trees where you can see a very busy road, very close, so not the ideal place for him with his history!!

I'll ring Janet later and ask her to get him checked for a chip (assuming he didn't get blood tested yesterday) and suggest he gets done if he isn't................just in case! x

Just had a thought-Mr CDS said he told the neighbours when he first went missing-there's only about a dozen houses in the cds, so surely, if someone HAD taken him in they would've let him know and he in turn, let me or Cramar know???

It was very sad about Jonti and also on CC my 'friend's' cat died in her arms whilst waiting for the vet to come and put her to sleep. What an day of emotions! x

I've just spoken to Janet-she is getting him chipped anyway today but i've asked her to get him scanned first. She really wants me to have him, even if it's just a trial,  and wants to have a 'chat' when i go over tomorrow!!

perhaps you should give it a go, Shirley - if Janet will take him back if there are major problems what is there to lose?

and you could go on looking for the perfect home for him if he doesn't settle, and meanwhile get him more acclimatized to indoors - with winter nearly upon us the timing might be just right

Am changing the title of this thraed  ;D

Shirley please try him he seems to have decided who his human is you just haven't accepted that part yet!
 ;)
He will be a bit nervous at first but semi ferals do adapt quickly - Sammy has been in for 9 weeks now and is currently outcold in the open on the cat room bed with the electric blanket on this will be his first warm safe winter and he looks very smug - just the humans that he is learning about now has been accepted by all our crew and even the dogs just us scarey humans to master now

What a happy ending that would make - Go on Shirley, give it a go Hun - you are already GBs slave anyway so you may as well go the whole way   It will save you a fortune in fuel not having to go hunting for him all the time and I am convinced that he REALLY wants you to be his Mummy  :Luv:

Oooooh you lot!!!! As if i don't get enough from Janet lol! I'm going over to see him tomorrow (and her!) so no doubt, i'll have the old,'he loves you so much' speech.

"It will save you a fortune in fuel not having to go hunting for him all the time and I am convinced that he REALLY wants you to be his Mummy " Sheryl! You're probably right!

My Chuch is 8/9 years old and has been treated like my baby,  doesn't like other cats in the garden, GB is 6.1/2-male-how could it work????? There's also lack of money-i'm struggling as it is with one cat, never mind two! I 'd really love to give it a go tho'...................................

His blood test was negative and he's been chipped, wormed and flead whilst under the anesthetic and he's now in the 'half way house' with other cats, aww bless!

Liz, did you keep Sammy in one room when you first had him and if so, for how long?

Yes Gill, Jonti was my  best friend's cat who passed to the bridge last night.

Aw Shirley, were awful arnt we, I know you have a tough time enough without us all egging you on....What about you foster him for Janet, that way food and vets will be covered! No different to them apart from the great interaction skills he is gonna get from you!

Start from about 2 wks in another room,,,,think of how small his pen is so anything bigger would be a bonus....Then he will have the smells of your house on him, between this time they may sniff each other beneath the doors....Lots of you fussing Chuch, then rubbing that scent over GB then vice versa! Take it slow, any probs just post away!  ;)

Put it this way they are fully aware of GB and yourself and the situation....Maybe Cramar dont foster and methinks you should be there first!  ;) They would still have these costs if he were at the rescue, plus in the long run he will become much more tamed down....Im sure this would be best for all concerned!  ;)

Hope it works out!

Sammy spent about a week in the study before Robin let him out to mix - he had been tested and had bits removed, defleaed, deticked and had ear mites removed, full booster, programme injection and ID chip - we have found that they are usually active at night and will"hide from" you but if ignored long enough will particiapte in the family life

To be honest 2  isn't much more expensive than one and less food to waste and if things done right you can have GB to stay - have you thought about asking to permanantly foster him so the rescue could give a bit of help with costs -

You will also save a fortune on petrol and printing costs - so much easier if he comes to live with you and Churchie!

Our Sweetie used to be 1 of 2 now she is in charge of 46!

LOL not nosey, interested!! Well, i've got him home!! Janet says to do completely opposite re. introductions-i.e. let them meet straightaway and they'll sort it!! I set up the spare bedroom as GB's room and held the door ajar. Chuchy was growling through the door, but not too bad! I to go out on an emergency so left him in the room and Chuchy had already sulked outside! When i came back, GB had used the litter tray and Chuchy was waiting to come in! Chuch went in my room, while GB had a wander round the house, with me holding the door again! I thought things were looking good, but Chuch has just woken up and growled, hissed and swiped at me! I'm so upset!!! He's gone out again, so GB is now having a wander around!

so pleased you are giving it a go, Shirley

Tiffany still growls and hisses at Tosker, and they both wave fairly ineffective paws at each other - but I notice neither ever has a bottle-brush tail or raised hackles, which are the signs of real aggression - so I reckon it is just them being two cats doing their thing

I wouldn't bother too much about the odd skirmish - you'll soon know if it gets really nasty :scared:

Thank you all for your support! No, i'm not fostering, Cramar aren't big enough to cover that-they gave me some goodies for him tho!

I worry that GB (Charlie) is shut in, and he's hiding under the bed, but he soon comes out for some headbutting-he was always a good headbutter lol! I changed the tray and he pooed in the fresh stuff-bless him!

Chuch is outside AGAIN, but i've been able to fuss him without getting swiped! He never sulks with me, so this is so upsetting.     :(

Don't they know how to mess with our minds ;)

I wouldn't let them meet just yet  and we have never done introductions like that we usually have the incommers in a cat pen in the downstairs study so they see the cats but can't react to each other or in the ensuite bathroom to one of our bedroom the one in the visitors quarters has a 12 pane glass door from a small hall in to the corridor so again they can see each other but not mix although we usually take some of the nicer children for a sniff

Good luck - just extra treats for Chuchy!!!!! ;D

We had the Waterybutt ferals Miss Cissy and Smudger and Ragamuffin in the downstairs study for 3 weeks last year with a solid door and they have been well accepted by our mob - Colony cats are usually in our experience the ones who accept all incommers so I'm sure he will be tolerated by Chuchy eventually just lots of bribes will be involved!

Hi Bazsmum, yes i am! He's been SO good-but, oh, the joy of the litter tray lol! He's never made a sound in the night, and when i got up, he was sitting on the windowsill, with the lovely aroma of his second poo filling the room lol! I gave him his breakfast and left him to it, then went back in and he had some fuss, then back under the bed.
Chuch has been a pest lol! He was on my bed, right in the middle, when i went to bed last night and i squeezed on the end! After a while, he went out of the room, but he was scratching the carpet at 1am to go out!!!! I let him out, then at 4 am, i called him in-he was just sitting lookin up at the tree-duh!! At 5.30, we had the scratching carpet thing, but i ignored it, and i got up at 6am. He just wanted to go out again. He always goes out the back door now, cos he has to walk past Charlie's room to go out the front door, (i'm in a bungalow)  which he always has done, 9 times out of ten! xx

Chuchy went out again earlier on and i let GB have a roam about. When Chuch came in, he didn't hiss or anything-      :yayyy: He wanted some food, but what he'd left before had gone! (Wonder where lol!) I put some fresh stuff down, but he just sniffed and walked away, so i put another flavour and the same thing happened! Chuch does this sometimes, anyway, but i suppose it's got GB's scent on from nicking his food!
Here's some pics i took yesterday, his first day. Most of them are under the bed-ignore the mess but i've got nowhere else to put it lol! xx

Under the bed is his safe Haven for now, most cats would stay under for a while....I mean after you not seeing him for such a long time look how relaxed he is around you! Really heart warming to see!  :Luv2:

Chuch has been asleep on my bed for the last hour or so, and i went for a lie down by him and he was a good boy, even with GB's scent on me! Looking good????

I think there may be a territorial tussle too, Shirley

I put some of his favourite Dreamies on top of my cat tree, for Trigger, who had just taken over the spot from Tosker - he wouldn't touch them

an hour later he has scoffed them eagerly from the floor - which suggests to me his presence on the tree was to reclaim his spot, and he was not willing to eat from a surface smelling of Tosker

the way I looked at it when Tosker decided he wanted fuss, was that he had gained a huge amount by coming in from the cold, having regular meals and a warm place by the fire

whereas Trigger and Tiffany had lost their exclusive access to me

so Tosker has to be third when it comes to my attention for the time being, until the two incumbents realise they are not really losers after all

For the first time since GB's been here, he wanted to go out the front door, after a couple of tail flicks by GB's room, but , as i walked past  him to open the door, he 'yeowled' at me!!! Why????

I think you're over analysing hun

most of us, if we're honest, don't know why our cats behave as they do - even after many years they can surprise us

but I think it's best to remember they do not have huge brains - Chuch won't understand that you are responsible for the appearance of GB, and so he isn't capable of holding it against you

Charlie always used to give his mommy some good headbutts! He was so excited at work when he saw us coming to feed them, the two off them would trot down the bay (factory) nutting each other, it was so cute to watch!
Having a good day so far-Chuch is still inside, on my bed after having his dinner earlier. I'd been out for a couple of hours, left them both inside, no aggro from Chuch when i got back, so fingers
crossed!!
I bought Charlie ONE cat nip fish, but he's not really interested in it! I'll try him with Chuchy's treat ball later (cos he's not interested in that!)

Just a couple more pics, tho' i suppose i should start a new thread now! Charlie is still so well behaved and he had a wander around last night (when Chuch was out of course!) and even used Chuchy's litter tray-oops! Chuch spotted him through the door and had a growl at him, but he slept on my bed last night (the previous 2 nights he didn't want to know and slept on the chest of drawers! They're both now asleep, on separate beds of course, and no problem with Chuch even tho' Charlie's scent must be everywhere!
I can't believe how well Charlie has taken to being confined, after all, the first 6 years of his life were in a factory, and since then, he's either been on the run, or at Cramar (plus one week at the CDSs)

The last one is of Chuch 'hiding' under the clothes horse staring at Charlie's room!

Charlie looks and sounds so like Tosker. triggers new indoor cat LOL

Sounds like Charlie just knows this is the home for him  ;D

Shirley we took on 3 ferals from a colny last year after someone poisoned the rst - Miss Cissy is 16 and loves food, heat and her own beds - she will let us stroke her and she puirrs like a rusty engine we have her 2 kids aged 10 Smudger and ragamuffin - Smudger is food orientated but soesn't worry if we aren't around and ragamuffin is so food driven she has doubled in size she is now like a grey and white longhaired rugby ball but we can brush her for about 2 mins now before she gets narky

None of this lot has tried to get out in their time with us they look at the weather through the windows and then curl up and go back to sleep!

Hi Gill, Chuch is pronounced like Church, but without the 'r' lol! If you wouldn't mind moving it and change the title to something like 'GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me' same as Catchat, thanks!

Liz those poor pussies being poisoned, just awful!

Looks like Charlie is the same as your 3 then, and Tosker,  likes his home comfort!

They are pretty gorgeous aren't they lol?

When Chuch went out last night, i let Charlie have a roam around again, and again, he weed in Chuchy's tray!!!! No problem from Chuch when he came in!! Who's a good boy then!!

That's fab news....Now if Chuch was gonna have big issue's with Charlie him peeing in his tray would not be tolerated!  :wow:

Can I ask a question? Now you can see first hand what Charlie is like in a home environment would you say he looks like he would shoot out of your door/window if he had chance?  :shify:

You probably know what Im getting at.....Cats need to be treated in a certain way to want to stay!  ;) :Luv2:

No, Ollie's (Chuchy) not the hero, it's my ex-who-won't accept-he's my ex, who was the hero     He was the one who suggested we go back to the CDS's street and it was him who saw Charlie, that's why he was 'my hero' for an hour lol!

Charlie doesn't look like he'd do a runner, in fact, i've never seen him even sit on the windowsill looking longingly out lol!  He loves me! lol

What's Yagga Yak Yak mean?

Still all quiet here-i've started wedging Charlie's door open with cardboard (!) and Chuch has  had a couple of sniffs and walked away!     :ok: They're both asleep on their respective beds at the mo! Think i might try introductions on Sat-today i've got an interview    :scared: and tomorrow i've got a full day, so can't have any added stress! lol

That is good already that Chuch and Charlie have had no barrier's in between them with the door wedged open, I really think this is gonna be a piece of cake....Charlie can cope much better with only being with one cat....He has grown so much with his experiences of late!  :Luv2:

Spoke to soon! Chuch has just decided to go out the front door, stopped by Charlie's room, then carried on, i bent down to fuss him and say what a good boy he was and he jumped up, meowed and hissed at me!!! Scary!

Interview a bit scary as well! Two people-aaarrgh! Only lasted about 20 minutes and had a 'test' to do before that e.g explain how you make a cup of tea to someone who's never made one before'!!!!! What's that got to do with Health Records?? Think i came across as too nervous! Called at the transport co. we used at work and big boss man was there-gave me a hug and had my phone number in case anything comes up!!!

Will be thinking of you tomorrow, does this mean that there will be no more sectioning for Charlie...I think he will be a total star for you, Chuch will have his grumbles, but that is just him saying "Im still top cat"!  ;)

Chuch is playing the 'I'll keep her guessing' game, and sounds like he is winning paws down

I have the same problem here with Tiffany and Tosker both wanting fuss at the same time, and I find it quite difficult stroking two cats at the same time in different directions

and it always ends in tears, as when Tosker sees Tiffany getting all relaxed and purry he forgets that she hates him, and decides to cuddle up to her - and gets a whack and a hiss for his pains :evillaugh:

Two people  on CC are sending me some Zylkene and a Feliway diffuser-don't know whether they're for me or Chuch!!!       :grouphug:

I would plug the Feliway in (if its a plug in obviously!) It takes about a week to have any noticing effect....Ive heard the Zyklene can be added to water so it will do them both good!  ;)

LOL Baz-no tears today so far! Chuch woke up and wanted food, so i put it outside Charlie's door (a suggestion to associate something good with the smell of the new cat!)  He just sat in the kitchen waiting for it, aww bless. I left it and hid behind the door, he went to it and walked away! TBH that's nothing new, he does that anyway!
Neither of them seem to drink water, so the Zylkene will have to go on the food! It is a plug-in !

Got another little problem now-have noticed a small pink lump by Charlie's bum!!! (No i don't spend my time looking at his bum! lol) When i sit on the bed by him, he walks round and round, headbutting me and his tail is in the air, so i've either got his head or bum facing me! I lnoticed it yesterday but thought it may be a bit of poo left inside (!)     but he had a poo last night! Any ideas?

Janet rang me today-she'd had a visit from the CDS's who'd received her letter telling them the good news! It was Mrs CDS's birthday yesterday and she said it was the best present she'd ever had!!! He still went out whistling every morning!

   Sorry visions of you staring at his butt!

I would just keep Chuch's food where he is used to it...I reckon Charlie will of lost his old smell by now anyway!  ;) About his bum I honestly dont know, best to get it checked out though...Hopefully something simple that they can just push back in!  ;)

I was wondering what would happen when the CD's found out Charlie is now safe....Are they going to rehome another cat now I wonder? That was good of them whistling every morning....Glad they took the time and effort to do this!  :tired:

I'll put Chuch's food bowl back then.  x

He never seems to want to come out! When Chuch is outside i'ii open the door and he sometimes walks into the hallway and kitchen, but mainly stays in 'his' room, bless!

Chuch has been a good lad today, no hissing at me, but i'm still wary when i stroke him-i try not to let him see that! x

I would actually be tempted to try Chuch on the Zylkene, he is the one who needs that calming effect at the mo...It wont harm him, just chill him out if its gonna affect him at all!  ;)

I think they can fool you too, Shirley - I don't think all agression is out and out hostility, from my own observations

Tosker chases after Tiffany sometimes, and she makes quite a noise about it if he catches up with her - but I notice when she is in front of the fire she will let him get right up to her - though of course she pretends she's asleep :innocent:

and I notice Trigger, who never engages in any way with either of them, usually emerges to have a look see what all the noise is about when Tosker is on one of his little rampages :sneaky:

I'll be glad when i'm at that stage lol!

Chuch was having a snuggle on my lap about half an hour ago, so cute, and then he had a little nip-may have been cos he was half asleep and wanted me to stop fussing him! He hasn't been out all day and i was dying to get in to Charlie cos he's on his own so much, in the end Chuch wanted some food so i put a Zylkene i (think they may be damp cos like a piece of rubber instead of powder, but still in date) and he ate it! He STILL didn't go out, so i went to Charlie anyway and gave him food and fuss!

Hi All, the Feliway has arrived and is plugged in, but now Chuch has decided to come into the living room-does it matter that the Feliway is in the bedroom??

And the good news is......................................................i got the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  24 hrs aweek over 5 days, starting 4th Jan, a 3 month temp contract but she's sure it will become permanent. Subject to a CRB check (no problem there, i've always been a good girl!) and health check-oops! they don't know about my health problems but it hasn't stopped me working full time for the last 7 years since i found out, so should be ok! The starting date will give me time (she says with everyhing crossed!) to get Chuch and Charlie sorted!!!!

Chuch had  a half hearted swipe at me this morning cos he was outside so i sorted Charlie out first, so he must've smelt him on my dressing gown and tried to eat the sleeve!! lol That Feliway is good stuff-i'll have to get some for myself when i start work!

My friend is coming round on Tuesday afternoon to help with the introductions!!!! She's used to not very pleasant cats-it was her's who was pts the day i found Charlie-and he was never very friendly! I hope Chuch won't scare Charlie to death, but at least i won't be on my own!   :scared:

Hope you and your lot are good! xx

Charlie seems to have found his voice today! Normally, when i go into his room, he makes a weird, chirruppy sound and wants lots of fuss. Today, i shut Chuch in my bedroom (he was asleep on my bed anyway, for a change) and let Charlie have a walk around. I was in the kitchen preparing my dinner and he never shut up!!!! I gave him some bits off the chicken (him and his mom used to love a bit of Sunday dinner at work) and he still carried on!!! I hope this means he's a happy little man    ;D
When Chuch came out later, he was very calm and didn't make any bother at all, even tho Charlie had scratched the same bit of settee as he does.............    :naughty: (Good job it's old!)

Think the drugs are working!!!!!     ;)

Thanks for the calming vibes-are they for me or the cats???     :evillaugh:

it was a big turning point for me with Tosker when he stopped chirruping at Tiffany and Trigger and started chirruping at me

Chuch knows now that Charlie is no big threat, and so although he might put him in his place occasionally, I think the time for major ructions are well past

It went good! Julie (my friend) didn't need the paramedics and neither cat needed the vet so RESULT!  Chuch had a growl at the door for a minute or two, Charlie was hiding under the bed, Julie was there with her goves and my oven gloves ready to pounce if needed lol! Chuch then walked away, tail down and flicking, and wanted to go outside. He was out for 10 minutes,so i encouraged him to see Charlie again-this time , he went into the room, Charlie, still under the bed, hissed at him and he walked away! Asleep on my bed ever since! I'll try again when he wakes up, tho' i am on my own now....................

I hope you're right, Baz!!!!!    :crossed:   This morning, when i was still half asleep, I'd fed both of them and had Charlie's door wedged open about 3"  and he was peeping through the door with Chuch sitting opposite, growling, but not for long! He's now on my bed so let Charlie have a walk around, but he doesn't seem at all relaxed! He's now asleep under the bed!

Thanks Bazsmum, i've heard great reports about the laser pen on CC. My back still isn't right, in fact, bending down doing both their brekkies, i 've spilt a full dish of water over Chuch-oops!    He then lay with his nose through Charlie's door for about 10 mins until one of them meowed and Chuch came in here when i called him and is now on my lap-awww!   :Luv2:

Thanks Jane have to agree! lol

Tosker still goes over the fence most days, and lies in the bushes watching the birds for around 20 minutes - then he comes back in - so very little to worry about there

Chuch has obviously forgiven you for bringing this alien into his house, now he's sussed out nothing bad is going to happen - except being doused with water, anyway, and he can't blame that on Charlie   :evillaugh:

Hi Bazsmum, well, i think i'll be carted off to the funny farm very soon!     Yesterday, i bought Charlie a duvet and cover set for the bed in his room!       (I'd read on CC that some cats like to snuggle under the duvet for warmth-not this little lad!) He didn't like it at all, and spent most of the day UNDER the bed and not on it! He's had my computer chair in there for a few days, which he likes, but even that hasn't tempted him out. Was worried about him really today till someone onCC suggested taking the duvet off and sitting on it for a couple of days, which i'm doing-feel like i'm i a sauna bath tho, but anything to sort him out!    :hot!: He came on the bed about an hour ago and had some fuss, but went back under!      :(
Oh, i've also got the radio on 24 hours a day for him-i'll need 2 part-time jobs to pay the leccy bill!!!    :faint:

Chuch is just Chuch-been asleep all day!    :yawn 2:

Hope you and yours are well!

He does not like anything new does he...very wary aw!!! Now the quilt has to start getting your house scent to be accepted lol!  :innocent:

Everything that I can see here though is fantastic.....This is really working out isnt it!!  ;)

I leave a radio on all day for my birdies.....I pay that much leccy Im sure I must own shares in it by now!

If Chuch is just being Chuch thats great......If he wer'nt being himself then you would have probs!  ;)

You have birdies as well as furries???    :omg:

Had a bit of a nightmare with them last night!     Chuch had a meow at me as he went outside (through the front door, past Charlie's room so that's an improvement anyway!!! ) all because i'd just come out of there!      Then at 1am, Charlie started whingeing so i got up and gave him some fuss and a bit of food, 1.30 he had another go    :grrrrrr: I was hoping for a lie-in as i'd had a late night Sat with tasty ex boss (and girlfriend!   :censored:) but they both had other ideas!   :hungey:

I've felt so tired and down today, i even thought about taking him back to Cramar-i don't think it'll ever come together      :'(

At the moment, they're both asleep, Charlie is back to his chirrupy self instead of hiding under the bed and i've had a nap!    :Luv2:

Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me
Post by: Kay and Penny on December 14, 2009, 16:42:46 PM
I think I'd let them meet casually, Shirley, as it seems to me you've got to the stage with Chuch where he is getting more bothered by the 'so near yet so far away' Charlie than he would with the reality

Tosker has totally taken me over here - sitting on me when I'm on the sofa and sleeping on the bed every night - and also pushing in if either of the other two come for fuss - but they're not particularly bothered - no physical signs of stress - they just accept what fuss I can give them uninterrupted

and today Trigger and Tosker were chasing each other in friendly fashion for the first time - that has taken over 3 months, so I think it's all a combination of patience and being laid back

and of course Charlie can't go back to Cramar - you would never forgive yourself if anything happened to him

'and of course Charlie can't go back to Cramar - you would never forgive yourself if anything happened to him '  I know that and i wouldn't, just on a downer at the moment   :(

I'm going to have to let them meet 'casually' aren't i? I just WISH i wasn't on my own............ :scared:

Tosker sounds amazing! Didn't you worry when he first met your other cats?  I'm a wreck at the thought of it!!!!   :stupid:

Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me
Post by: Kay and Penny on December 14, 2009, 17:39:52 PM
it was easier for me with Tosker, Shirley, because for several weeks they saw him outside the enclosure, and he only gradually encroached on their space

cats enjoy interacting with other cats, though - even if the interaction isn't particularly friendly, they still find it stimulating - if Chuch absolutely hates Charlie that hatred will still provide a new interest for him - and Charlie is used to being around other cats and is unlikely to react strongly to Chuch

they aren't going to hurt each other, physically or mentally, really they aren't

I cant say that I have done intro's ever in my house Shirley, Ive isolated for a while then put them in the room (open of course) that I think they would like as base first!!!

Blackie was kept in isolation for approx 8 weeks due to him being a true feral....Its been a lot of hard work but worth every eek and Oo that was had!

I cant find his early photo's but here's a linky.....He even accepts our dog!  :wow:
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,15801.0.html#bot

Yes I have 10 birds also, 5 budgies and 5 cockatiels!  :wow: They have their own room, where they get out each day for flight!  :wow:

The dog gets on with them, they even preen his fur!  :Luv2:

Latest pics of Blackie....He now braves the front room when we go to bed!  :evillaugh: :Luv2:

I didn't realise you had a feral cat-i only joined Purrs earlier this year. He's gorgeous!!!   :Luv2: It's great to see him with the others-like Cramar lol!

Charlie woke me up at 1am again-he thinks he's an alarm clock, i think!     He was sitting on the windowsill, crying-apparantly he used to to that at the CDS's, but the first time he's done it here. I gave him some food and fuss and then...........................................he played with his cat nip fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!    (At least i think he was playing, it was a bit rough lol)

I keep thinking about what Trigger said 'Chuch is more bothered by so near yet so far, than the reality' so i'll have a go later! Unfortunately my friend is at work (2 shifts) so wish me luck!   :hairrasin:

They worked!!!!!!!   :cheer:   I went out and bought some Catnip, as suggested by one of the ladies on CC to rub onscratching post to encourage Charlie to use it-his claws are soooooooooo long!
Charlie woke up about an hour ago so i fussed him and put the stuff on the post and old cat nip toys-he was in ectsasy!!!!     :drool;    Chuch woke up not long after, spotted him, growled then crept in, rolled on the wiggle waggle (?) so there they both are in the same room, 'flying' Chuch stayed there for about 10 mins, then dashed out. I fed him and he sat on guard duty again, Charlie was a bit nervous and chirruped a bit, jumped on the bed with his back to Chuch. I then fed Charlie, Chuch outside ready to pounce, but didn't, just growled!    :catlove2:  One day!!!

Just copied this from CC to save typing it again lol! (Off to physio soon!)

The door has been open since before 8am-Chuch sat opposite but no growling!

The last hour has been amazing! Chuch decided to sit opposite Charlie's door, while he was fast asleep! He must've got bored and went to sit on the windowsill in my bedroom. Charlie woke up, whimpering and had the nerve to walk into the bedroom (Chuchy's domain lol!) Chuch just sat there watching his every move, then lay down! Charlie lay down on the floor at the end of the bed and that's how it stayed for about 10 mins. Chuch then jumped down and sat about 2' away from Charlie, who never moved!!!! Chuch had a little growl, but that was it. They stayed like that for another 10 mins, then Chuch yawned and walked out!!!!!! He went back a couple of times and had a growl and the last time he did have a go, but i shouted and sprayed and he came away! Charlie is now back in his room, under the bed, and Chuch has just come in here for a nap lol! I think Charlie was being a bit cocky cos Chuch would normally be on my bed now and he was a bit scared, i think?? Unbelieveable!!!

:wow: That is fantastic Shirley, see all that worry on your behalf!!!  :evillaugh:

Chuch is curious (as cats are) if Charlie was the confrontational type then I think there would of been the odd scrap by now, but I do see Charlie as laid back being used to other cats etc.....Once Chuch knows for sure that Charlie aint competition then there will be pure bliss Im sure!  :Luv2: :Luv2:

Im a bit concerned though and have an awful image in my head....You shouted (which I do often) but then you sprayed!  :scared: I do hope the puds dont get any bad habits from you!  :shify: :evillaugh:

Hope all goes well at physio for you Shirl.....Although Im sure a massage from a nice strong bloke (ex boss minus gf) would do equally good!  :innocent: :evillaugh:

Things are going great now! I leave the door open all the time now, when i'm in, and not at night, just in case............ ;)
They can be in the same room without any hissing or growling from Chuch and, yesterday, Chuch was on the settee as Charlie walked in, moaning as usual, and he just looked at him as if to say 'not you again'
I was out last night, with the tasty one again, lol (fao Baz lol)   and they both lay in the hallway when i got back!   :wooooo:      :catplay2: nearly!!!

that's great to hear, Shirley

cats so hate change at first, but they usually come round to accepting it given time and patience - and sometimes they even get to prefer it to the old routine

OMG he is GORGEOUS!!!!    :Luv2: He IS a lot like Chuch, isn't he?

I'm up at this ridiculous hour cos Charlie was crying-AGAIN!!!!     :grrrrrr:  He was alseep all day yesterday and started as soon as i went to bed, his normal trick lately   >:(   He's driving me insane   :naughty:  He was just sat by his food bowl when i went in-he'd got biscuits!!!

Chuch has now got him cornered in here so he can't even get back to his room, no aggro tho' 'sigh'
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me

Decided to let him out, before i go completely insane   :grrrrrr: I copied this (again!) from Catchat cos have to go out soon!

I opened the back door (he's in the front bedroom) and it took a while for him to come out. When he finally did he, he was nervous, tail down and flicking and walked to the back of the garden (only small) I walked towards him and he jumped over the 6' fence to the garden behind! Aarrrgh!! I could see him through one of the panels and he was just having a nosy around, then he went out of view, so panic! He was ignoring me whistling and shaking his biscuit box (always worked before!) so went back inside to get socks on (!) ready to go searching. As i went to put my shoes on, he appeared back over the fence and ran, nervously into the house!!!
So he knows where he lives then! (Maybe he realised it's better in here after all lol)
He was only out about 10 mins max and i'd forgotten the rule about letting him out when he's hungry-oops! but a good first outing, i think!

That IS good Shirley, now he knows where base is!  :wow: I suppose it would of been insane for us all to believe that he would be content as an indoor only having spent much of his life outside!  ;)

Hopefully his moaning on the window sill will now cease!  :wow: ;)  You should have no fear of him wandering either as he now has the best of both worlds and he knows it!!!  ;) :Luv2:

I wonder how Chuch would react seeing him outside?  :shify:  I know "patience"  :innocent:

that sounds just perfect, Shirley - no doubt he'll give you the odd fright now and again - just to keep you on your toes - but I reckon he knows wehn he's on to a good thing, and will always return

Tosker has just had his daily sortie over the fence - he was gone all of 10 minutes - he never goes more than 10foot or so away, and I expect Charlie to be very similar in his habits - I think they just need to know they are free to leave if they want to

' Hopefully his moaning on the windowsill will now cease'  It better had or he'll end up in the oven with the turkey, lol!   ;)
I've just got back, opened the door for him to go out, he EVENTUALLY came from his room, walked halfway up the path and dashed back in!!!!!
I wouldn't like to see Chuchy's reaction just yet!    :evillaugh:

Hope he'll be like Tosker and realise where he's better off!

He's still moaning all the time he's awake! Chuch chased him away a few times yesterday, no hissing or growling-he's probably as fed up as me of the whingeing lol!

I  took a risk last night and let him out at 7.30 (you can't see him in the dark!)-he just went round the side of the house and back again, about 3/4 minutes, then back inside! He'd had a quick sniff just under the window earlier, all of 20 seconds! For someone who's spent his life outside, he doesn't seem to like it now!    :scared:

Had another terrible night with him-he woke me up 3 times-ended up feeding him and changing his liiter tray at 4am!!!!    :grrrrrr:  This is on top of Chuch wanting to go out at 2.30am!   :tired: Think i've been a bit too soft with my furries!

Charlie has been fast asleep since i got up an hour ago...................................... :censored:

He hasn't woken me up the last 2 nights!!!! Chuch chases him back into his room, no hissing or growling tho, so not too bad!

Charlie was scared off by by neighbour's dog earlier-the smallest Yorkie you've ever seen

He went out nearly 20 minutes ago-before it's about 30 seconds! Longest time is 5 minutes! I heard him jump the fence and it's pitch black now and he's not coming when i whistle.................i wasn't too worried cos he did that the first time he went out but it was only a few minutes...............

  Liz, think you're right! I've been out twice today, both for a couple of hours and left all the doors open-no problem!!!! Just got back and tried to get Charlie to go out, shutting Chuch in the kitchen, or so i thought, and he came outside, folllowed by Chuch!!!   :hairrasin:   He chased Charlie round the side of the house and Charlie jumped up the side gate and back along the fence, into the house.  Chuch just carried on over the gate-not a growl or hiss in sight!!    :wooooo:

One of these days soon............ :catplay2:

little plump grey cats can climb though, can't they :sneaky:

LOL Trigger and Bazsmum, he has put weight on (he was always slim!) which is another reason i want him to go out (as well as get his claws down-he doesn't get stuck on everything now lol!)

He woke me up at 4am, but i think that's cos Chuch was up as well! Sometimes i think he's telling me to change his litter tray-am i mad??     but he shuts up when i've done it!

Thanks Jane, hope it continues!   lol

At bedtime, i went to lock up to find Chuch coming out from under Charlie's bed........................................

                     v
                     v

How do you get those quotes in a purple box????   :Dont know:

Not telling you  :evillaugh:

Oh, go one then...

When you click on reply, below the box you are typing in is everyone's elses posts. At the top right of each persons post there are the words 'insert quote', click on that and it will insert that persons quote into your post. You can click on more than one 'insert quote' so you can multiple quotes from lots of people.

If you only want to quote a certain part of their post, as I have done above, then just highlight the bit you want to remove and delete it just like you would in a word doc or email. The important thing to keep in is the gobbledegook in the square brackets at the beginning and the /quote in square brackets at the end. If you accidentally delete one of the brackets when you are deleting words that you don't want to quote it wont display properly. Like this...

[quote author=Shirley link=topic=27885.msg542779#msg542779 date=1263453400

Hi Shirley,

when you click 'quote' to insert the quote then start typing whatever you want don't touch anything of that quote i.e. make sure your curser is separate from anything in the previous quote so it leaves it as is - if that makes sense.

As Janey says, once you've clicked on 'insert quote' then step away from the quote  :evillaugh: It literally takes a split second to insert a quote with just one click so it's not hard it's just that you need to move your cursor away so you don't interfere with the gobbledeegook!

Once you've mastered that it's just a case of highlighting any deleting any words you don't want in the quote - just remember, stay away from the gobbledeegook  :evillaugh:

Hi Baz, the snow's gone-yaaah!!!!-but i've just heard on the news, more is forecast for Wednesday   :(

The job is a bit better cos i'm sitting down most of the time but not that keen at the mo and i managed to knacker the bosses computer (and another one!) last thing on Fri-ooops!!! If you don't use it for a few minutes, it signs off, so you have to log on again-such a pain-and it wouldn't let me, so you have to phone some security place!

Chuch and Charlie are still BFF (i realise now- ) They've even touched noses twice this weekend!!!!  Charlie is still nervous of him a lot of the time, so i was gobsmacked when that happened! He's going out more now the snow's gone and has learned to stand on Chuchy's little shelter under the window to let me know he's back-awww-so i don't have to leave the door open! (Mind you, it's open now and he's inside!!!!!) I accidently locked him out twice the other night, but he was waiting by the door when i realised he wasn't in his room one time and came when i whistled the other-awww! x

So glad to hear that the boys are getting on  :Luv:

I know how you feel about the job because the job I went to after being made redundant and being unemployed for 3 months was awful and I Hated it (I was only there just over 3 weeks) - I kept looking and the job I am at now came along and I Love it, it started off as a 6 month temp contract but after only about 5/6 weeks they offered me a permanent contract and I was over the moon.  Keep your chin up Hun and I will keep my fingers crossed for you that a better job comes along xxx

I'm just gobsmacked! The way Chuch was when Charlie first came here (11 weeks tomorrow-seems longer lol) and how jealous he was, never in a million years did i expect this!    :wow: Mind you, after their dinner, Chuch went outside and Charlie was brave enough to lie on the part of the bed where Chuch had been-oops! When Chuch came back in, he had a fisticuffs with him, but Charlie stayed where he was!!!
They're now back in separate rooms, but, hey, it's a start!!

So glad that these two are getting used to each other (although I'd say it was Chuch who was the brave one getting close!), they will have quick spats... even some of mine who get on really well can have their spats!  ;)

I think they've reached the next stage, Shirley - where they mock fight but without aggression - just part of natural cat behaviour

Tiffany and Tosker are at that stage with me - there is still a bit of of hissing (from her) and paw waving and tail swishing from both,  but neither is frightened or runs away, and when they've finished with each other they will settle down quite close

Lol Trigger, you maybe right, tho' Charlie hasn't got that far with me yet! He still spends most of his time in 'his' room and is still jumpy at times and i've known him all his life! (He's 7 next month) At least he wants to stay with me cos he always comes back when he's been outside!   :Luv2:  How old is Tosker?

I don't know about Kocka, Gillian -assume he was/is a grey stray then? I don't think my Charlie will ever be a cuddlebum! lol

When i went to bed last night, i found Chuch on Charlie's bed and Charlie lying in the hall but, when i got up in the night for the loo, foung Charlie on Chuchy's cushion on the settee-awww!   :catplay2:

Tosker came to me last May as a two year old - not sure how accurate that was, but as the rescuer told me he had been mistreated as  a kitten she presumably knew roughly how old he was

Charlie and Chuch are not avoiding the scent of each other, and that is a big leap forward

Yes, it's wonderful to see my 2 now-about 10 mins ago, Chuch was crouched down, bum waggling ready to give chase, which he did, but just playfully    :catplay2: Charlie is still nervous at times, but confident enough to sniff Chuchy's bum when he's eating and jump on the bed when he's there!    :Luv2:

Just a little update! Things are still going great with my two furries! I'm beginning to think my old man, Chuch, is glad of a playmate sometimes lol     Charlie has hardly been out the last few days-he stands by the open door with his belly almost on the floor    then goes back to the bedroom!  I'm hoping when i start sunbathing ( what's that???!) he'll join me and Chuch in the sunshine!   8)  He has started sitting by me on the settee a few times-awww!   :Luv2:

I knew once Chuch found out nothing bad happened to his little world with a Charlie in it, he would start to see some benefits

Trigger's a new cat with Tosker in the house - eating better, much more active, much more alive all round

and Tiffany has someone to fight with who fights back :shify:

Awwww sweet!  :Luv2:   Does Tosker lie on your lap? Charlie walks across mine (a long walk!) but won't lie there yet   :scared:

I wouldn't say Chuch was more lively-still sleeps loads, but more alive when he is awake lol!   :Luv2:
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me

Tosker spends his whole life waiting for an opportunity to cuddle with me - I lie on the sofa each evening watching TV with him in my arms, and then have him on the bed all night

good job Trigger and Tiffany weren't cuddle cats or their noses would be well out of joint :evillaugh:

Charlie looks so like Tosker - same colouring, same eyes, same round tubbiness (I hope I'm not insulting him here - it's how he looks lying on the bed - he may be a long lithe athlete standing, for all I know ;))

It's great that Tosker is so cuddly with you-you've worked wonders with the little lad!    :Luv2: I've known Charlie all of his (almost ) 7 years and he won't come on the bed when i'm in it-he's usually sitting outside the open door when i get up in a morning, a vast improvement from when he used to be crying in the night!!  :tired: Chuchy wakes me up anytime from 4am-grr!-to go out and even then, he stays asleep   :Luv2:

Charlie had used to be a slim puss but has plumped up since he's been here   :evillaugh: Lack of excercise like his mom

PM'd you back and forgot to add to this thread!  :evillaugh:

Blackie has not really came round Shirl  :( I think this will be the best he will be.... But his life is so much for the better now, no running from nasty teens/dogs etc.... no more cold nights, comfy bed, no fleas or worms.... Think he is better off anyway.... You would laugh at him as I do, to see how wary he is (not as much with me) but with others.... This is him but he is loved for him also!  ;) :Luv2:

Glad the duo are still loving their new friendship.... leaps and bounds my dear.... Chuch actually looks smaller than him now on that pic lol!  :evillaugh: :Luv2: :Luv2:

A pic of Blackie.... His latest antic is to come in the front room when the tv is off and OH has gone to bed.... He sleeps in with many now!  :Luv2: :Luv2:

Does Tosker go outside? My Charlie seems scared to death, not so bad when it's dark, (tho' still a struggle!)  but daytime...............especially when next doors Yorkie, the smallest you've ever seen, is in the garden

Tosker can get in and out of my catproof (!) enclosure, but doesn't bother much these days, and only goes a few yards away for a short while

he might go out more often in the warmer months, but he is quite the home body these days, and does not want to do his own thing

LOL sounds like Charlie when he was at Cramar! There was over 100 cats in the feral enclosure (like Secura cat, i think!) but  he had to be the one that got out didn't he, lol!   :sneaky:  There was another one they saw actually climb up,  (must be at least 10' high!!) swing himself over the 'lip' thing and down the other side, but he'd climb back in again, lol  :wow:

Blackie was born in a house and the people let him out to go feral!  >:( >:( >:( They could not even look after their kids (that sort!  )

He lived rough on a housing estate for over 4 yrs, my daughter would feed him but he would never come close when she was around.... We trapped him over 3 yrs ago and he has been with me since.... We took him in the trap to be neutered... He had already been done hence the chunk off his ear! The vet nurse said I would have fun with him as he was really fiesty.... Still is but not really with me, I can actually give him head rubs if he knows Im going too, I cant suprise him though or I would get a suprise back!  :evillaugh: :sneaky: :Luv2: :Luv2:

Glad you have handed your notice in!  ;)

Amazing when cats can get out of the proofing, my daughter CC has securacat fencing (think its called that?) and one of her's does that flip you mentioned!

I imagine Charlie ending up a real cuddlebum like his twin Tosker.... Chuch has a new lease of life methinks!  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

There was over 100 cats in the feral enclosure (like Secura cat, i think!) but  he had to be the one that got out didn't he, lol!   :sneaky:  There was another one they saw actually climb up,  (must be at least 10' high!!) swing himself over the 'lip' thing and down the other side, but he'd climb back in again, lol  :wow:

that's exactly what Tosker does, though my fence is only 6ft high - but now he's becoming fatter more cuddly I think he's finding it less easy ;)

Hi Bazsmum, how can anybody let a cat out to go feral!!!!!    :grrrrrr:  They should be shot!!!   (the humans, not the cat!)  >:(  It sounds like he loves you tho-thank God you trapped him!    :Luv2:
I think Chuch has a new lease of life too-can't wait till the summer and they can chase each other in the garden instead of from room to room!

Lol Trigger, love your description of Tosker-Charlie is even more like him now-don't know why though, the amount of food i throw away you wouldn't think he was eating anything!    :Luv2:

Just put cat carrier into Charlie's room, hoping he'll get used to it ready for his first vet visit......... :scared: He's due for injections, in fact, he was due a long time ago cos, after he escaped the very first time after the original injections on April 1st, he never had the follow ups.................should be fun trying to get him into it  :hairrasin:  Chuch is bad enough!

Tosker had his first  vaccs three weeks ago, Shirley, and he was fine - in fact he is going back this pm for the follow-up

he doesn't like being picked up, but he loves to be on my lap, so I shall put the carrier, which has already been out open in the front room for two days, right by the sofa later

then all I have to do is sit down, wait until he's on my lap, and pick him up and plonk him straight in it

wouldn't fancy my chances if the carrier wasn't top loading though - what type do you use?
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me
Post by: Shirley on March 09, 2010, 13:28:57 PM
Er, not a top loader and the closest Charlie gets to my lap is his two front paws!    Might have to pop to Cramar and ask if i can borrow one of their's-that's what i bought him home in!  I should really have my own cos i won't be able to keep it forever anyway!  I did price one up at Jollye's the other week and it was £25-can't afford that! Any idea where i could get a cheaper one, or is that about the going rate?

there's one for £18 very similar to the one I have used for 9 years on the Zooplus site - called Capri

I wouldn't put 6kg Tiffany in mine though, as I am not sure the carrier could cope with her weight - Tosker is 4 kg but he doesn't wriggle like she does :evillaugh:

Charlie's never been weighed but looking how tubby he is now, i would say he's almost as big as Chuch, who was 5.2kg last October   :evillaugh:  Would that be ok for him?

Good luck with the vet visit!
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me
Post by: Kay and Penny on March 09, 2010, 15:16:44 PM
Tosker is just over 4kg, and the carrier felt as if it was at its limit - not that that meant it was, but I can't  really test it to destruction (though Tiffany would be just the girl for the job!!)

I also have a fabric carrier lined with plush, which is much favoured as a sleeping place by all three cats, and more than once I have been able to just zip it up with the cat already inside!! - they are quite cheap so might be worth a try

poor Tosker was so scared - he lay like a pancake on the vet's table, trying not to be noticed :(

but his gingivitis is now classified as mild, and not requiring treatment, which is good, so apart from sore ears he is doing OK

now do you have any tips on how to apply ear drops twice a day to a very reluctant cat :shify: :shify:

LOL no idea! I've already wasted 6 worming tablets last week (on the 2 of them) and only just managed to Frontline Charlie cos he kept moving his head!

Poor Tosker being so scared!   :scared: I have visions of Charlie doing the wall of death when i take him!  :-[   I may have a solution to the carrier problem but can't say anything till Friday!   ;)

BTW i got talking to a woman in the cat food aisle at Morrisons today (as you do) and she was telling me how she was feeding a stray and that her own 2 had now died. She showed me a picture of one of them........................the double of Charlie and Tosker!! She said he was a Russian Blue and had cost her £150-i said mine was a factory cat and cost nothing

Trigger is a Russian Blue and is nothing like Tosker - long-limbed, slender body, very long thin tail, small narrow head

I reckon this lady in the queue was sold a pup

The description of Trigger is like Charlie (well, before he put weight on!) In fact, that's how the CDS's used to describe him 'having a long, thin tail'   :Luv2:

Charlie and Tosker  aren't twins then after all :(

Tosker is small, decidedly plump (the only word I can find which sums up his little round hard barrel body) with very short legs and a short thick tail

his favourite pose is on his back on my lap with all four legs stuck straight out in the air

though not today - today he is in a basket on top of the wardrobe staying well out of my way - I think he's spotted I came home with the bottle of the eardrops the nasty vet insisted on putting in his ears :evillaugh:

hope you are forgiven more quickly than me - when is Charlie going to the (whispers V E T S)?

He'll be going in the next couple of weeks................

I wish he'd sit on my lap (like Chuch is doing as i type) but he'll only lie next to me, with his back to me!!   :( He'll sleep on my bed during the day but won't come in the bedroom at night, when i'm in bed, even tho' the door's open???     He does let me sleep till i get up (usually about 7-7.30am) which is more than Chuch does-he has me up at anytime from 4am to let him out!   :tired:

Has Tosker come down from the wardrobe yet? I'll try  and find a 'standing up' pic of Charlie so you can see he really isn't his twin after all  :'(
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me

he's just come down

he's funny on the bed at night - he sleeps right at the bottom, but if I put my hand outside the duvet he gives a little cry and comes rushing up for fuss - when I put my hand back in he goes back to the bottom again

how's that for training - and I didn't even know I was doing it :evillaugh:

Tosker is really more like a teddy bear than a cat :Luv:

Who's a good boy then??  :shy: Last night i was going out and my friend was drying her hair as i opened the back door, so Charlie wouldn't come back in!  :scared: I asked her to leave the room and tried again-he looked terrified but came just inside the door, but dashed out again as i went to close the door behind him!   :grrrrrr: We were running late so i couldn't wait much longer and had to leave him outside    The longest he's been out before without me being here is 2 hours in the daytime!  :Sad Bye: Needless to say i was worried to death (still had a fantastic night even tho i think my left eardrum has been shattered    !!) Came home at 12.30 this morning to find him waiting by the door...awwww!  :Luv2: :Luv2: He'd been out for 5 hours!!!!   :wow:

Charlie had his first visit to the vets yesterday-and he was brilliant!!!!   :Luv2: :Luv2: I picked him up while he was asleep and put him in the carrier  :sneaky: He never made a sound in the car-the vet is only about 10 mins away-and let the vet fuss him!!  :wow: He checked him over and said he's a healthy, slightly overweight (oops!) cat! I told him he didn't really eat much so he said he must be eating elsewhere!  :-[ I had to hold him while he got his jab ready and i thought, now is when he would try and make a break for it, but no! Think he must've been frozen with fear! He was no trouble going home either and i expected a peaceful evening watching tv, but he decided he wanted to be outside, in the rain  Couldn't get him to come in so i was up and down like a yo yo, worried he might be in trouble, but he eventually did come in, then out, then in  :grrrrrr: He was ok at bedtime tho!
Same thing again in 3 weeks, so need to get a carrier before then-top opening, wire one (borrowed the one last night from Cramar) so if any one knows of a (cheap) one anywhere...........

It was great to be back at Cramar-haven't been since i had Charlie last Nov-had a walk round the feral paddocks, just amazing, with beautiful, clean cats  :Luv2: :Luv2: One of them came up to me (looks like a younger version of Chuch and has been there all the time i've been going over there) He had some fuss, then decided my leg was a scratching post-ouch! Another one was in the sleeping area eating, but picking it up with his paw and another was sitting on the side of the water bowl (like a washing up bowl) dipping his paw in to drink-just sooooo cute! :Luv2: :Luv2:

The only downside to my visit was that i've damaged my car!   :stupid: I hit the kerb on the car park and somehow, got it stuck!!! When i reversed it made a crunching noise, so i got out and had a look, couldn't see anything, so tried again. This time it moved and i saw a graze on the grill thing under the number plate, not too bad, i thought. When i got home, i was telling my friend and she pointed out the REAL damage!!! I've somehow separated the wing from the bonnet!!!   :grrrrrr:  Rang ex hubby and he said i've probably pulled off the clips that hold the panel on (!) He's coming to have a look tonight or tomorrow after work, depending what time he gets back! Fingers crossed it's something that can be fixed easily and cheaply!!!!   :sigh:

It must have been lovely to go back to Cramar and see all the kitties, it sounds a great place.  My Pep does the paw in the water thing - when his cup has hardly any water in and he can't stick his head in  :innocent:

Sorry about your car though - hope you soon get it sorted

Cramar is a wonderful place-wish there were other places like that with a feral area.

Thanks Jane, i hope i can get the car sorted-i'm hoping ex can just shove it back but, with my luck and no money coming in, it'll cost an arm and a leg!!!   :(

Well, after my awful stress and worry with the stray cat i found (see 'old, tabby male found in Bradley Bilston) my Charlie had to have an op on his eye yesterday! He's come in the day before with it half closed and, as he won't let me do anything to him, i couldn't even look at it properly, never mind try to bathe it!! Somehow i got him into the carrier (after earlier getting a 2" scratch on my ankle which took forever to stop bleeding, when trying to grab him to look at the eye!) The vet said he'd damaged the cornea and needed a flap of skin cutting off-eeeurgh!!!! He said he was very lucky as, had the claw gone in a bit more, he would've lost his eye!!!!! £211 bill later and you wouldn't think he'd had an op!! Within an hour of coming home he wanted to go out, but i resisted. Later tho, he was literally hanging onto the beading round the window on the door (he's never done that before!) so i let him out! He came back but wanted out again so i gave in yet again-this time he wouldn't come back in and just stood outside the door while i was trying to get him back, so he was out all night! (Only the 3rd time in nearl 6 months he's done that!) Needless to say, i had another rubbish night, getting up to see if he'd come in! This morning, he's fine, in and out like a jack in the box while i'm sitting here freezing to death! I've now shut the door and put the heating on! The last time he came in, he was here for a minute, had some fuss and was hanging off the beading again, 'sigh' I wonder if he'll ever calm down-think i'll have to give him some of my Diazepan!

I feel so sorry for him cos he hasn't got a nasty bone in his body, doesn't fight and freezes at the vets-wish i could do something to help him. I've tried the Bachs stuff, but seemed to make him worse!!!

Shirley reading of Charlies in/out activities took me back more than 10 years to when I used to wander round the garden in my nightie in the middle of the night calling "Where are you pretty Iris, please come to your mummy who loves you"  Iris was a feral who came to us under very sad circumstances just as Charlie did to you, I used to worry myself sick over her,she used to suffer rodent ulcers and was a madam to treat and at times so difficult to get her to return to the house; I think sometimes its their way of telling us that things will progress on their terms. Iris eventually settled so well you could set the clock by the time she came and went.

Forget rescue remedies and the like all he needs is time  hope your wounds soon heal and Charlie keeps out of further scraps
Title: Re: GB's (or Charlie's) new home with me

Thanks Teresa, poor Iris-but you did manage to treat her tho?    at theimage of you in your nightie calling her!  I don't know why he's still so nervous with me-he's known me all his life!
I've just got back from my old workplace (where he was born and a year today i was made redundant from!) and he came in for a bite to eat for 5 minutes, then hanging on the beading again! Don't know why he's suddenly started doing that!!!! He's out in the rain now, tho there are 2 shelters but one of them's probably soaking wet now!

I hope he keeps out of trouble as well!!!  Until recently, he'd spend a lot of time asleep on my bed with Chuch, now he wants out all the time (could be something to do with it not being so cold!)

Shirley over the years Iris became the sweetest most lovable girl so medication wasnt too bad, Charlie is enjoying the best of both worlds outside in milder weather confident in the knowledge he has his own wonderful home for when he is cold, tired or hungry and the day will come for when he needs his mom to cuddle him too.
He has coped with an enormous amount of change over the last year so its still early days for him.

You're right, of course, Teresa!  I hadn't thought of it like that-he's been pushed from pillar to post since last March-Cramar, escaping, being caught, escaping againfor 5 weeks, being caught, rehoming, escaping and being missing for 11 weeks, then coming to me and being shut in a room for 5 weeks (where he was amazing!)  :Luv2: :Luv2: He's now having a wash and brush up on the floor nest to me-awww!
Last night he slept on the computer chair, the first time for weeks, from 8.30pm and stayed there until 5.30 this morning! Of course, i'm thinking there's something wrong and kept waking up worrying ( and with the pain in my hip) so he can't win    He seems back to his normal scaredy, but a bit fuss-potty self now! Maybe the anaesethetic HAD sent him a bit loopy and now it's out of his system? He's now lying on the floor, yet the door's open!   :Luv2: Needless to say, i look and feel like a zombie-hope i can stay awake for my night out tonight, lol

His eye looks fine, thank God, hope it stays that way until he's back at the vets on Tuesday!

The trip to the vet will have set him back more than the anaesthetic, hes survived most of his life on his nerves , so you are still earning his trust. Think you have worked wonders for Charlie so far, you just need to be patient

Not such much nervous wrecks but shredded individuals if we get the you are going in this box approach wrong thats why we still have 6 in crush cages

Some of our lot just freeze at the vet and we always ge them wormed to somehow they never have a go at the vet but parents can be shredded or worse end up having another cat eat the worming tablet cause we dropped it  :evillaugh:

Sunny the baby BC has also been known to help the cats out during this function
