Wait, don't pelt me with rotten tomatoes just yet :evillaugh: I know it's early to mention the Chr*****s word :shoosh: but it's all in a good cause :wow:
For those new to Purrs here's a bit of background... Purrs the forum began very hastily in November 2006 as a result of CatChat having to close it's forum for a time - Tan and her OH, Chappie, got this site up and running within hours. Gill and Tan had been planning a Christmas auction in aid of Ron's rescue at LostCatsBrighton and the small matter of not having a forum to host it wasn't going to stop them :sneaky: And so began the Purrs Annual Christmas Auction (PACA - just made that up :evillaugh:) in aid of a registered rescue on Purrs. We puts a huge amount of time and effort into the auctions every year to ensure they run like a precision watch and I'm sure this year will be no exception :)
The Purrs Annual Christmas Auction (PACA :evillaugh:) has gone from strength to strength, despite these tough times we find ourselves in, and we really will have a hard job beating previous years amazing totals
The 2006 auction raised
The final figure raised is.............. £1656.50
for Ron's LostCatsBrighton rescue.
The 2007 auction raised
GRAND TOTAL THIS YEAR IS £1836.35
for Lesley's Eight Lives Left Cat & Kitten Rescue.
2008 auction raised
TOTAL 2099
for Paws Inn rescue.
2009 auction raised
TOTAL 2100
for Sunny Harbour rescue.
2010 auction raised
TOTAL 1800
for Lost cat Brighton rescue.
2011 auction raised
TOTAL 1832
for Coventry Cat rescue.
This year will be in aid of Paws Inn Cat Rescue which is the next working rescue in rotation
Now, more specific info will be posted closer to the time but basically it works like this:
If you have anything in your home that is postable, that you think another Purrs member would like, and more importantly would be prepared to bid on and pay for then it can go in the auction :wow:
The person who is donating the item also pays the postage to send the item directly to the winning bidder but here's the good bit ..... the winning bidder also pays the postage price added to their winning bid to Purrs and this all gets dished out to the chosen rescue :wow:
We've had some fantastic items donated over the years and absolutely everything is gratefully received - even down to a single teeny tiny mousey toy :)
Bidding can be fierce at times so this is not for the faint hearted :naughty:
Here's just a few examples of the many (over 170) items in last years 2011 auction - everything from super cool cat toys, beds, books, luxury cards, mugs -
Along with fantastic items donated by our wonderful auctions sponsors like Simons cat etc
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/board,136.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/board,136.0.html)
Specific details and how things work will be announced closer to the time but the auction will begin on 18th November 2012 and will run for two weeks to 2nd Dec , so plenty of time to get the items in the post and to their new homes before Christmas.
That gives us all plenty of time to get together some bits and bobs to pop in the auction and to wrestle with ourselves about things we want to keep but know should go in the auction :naughty:
Phew.... Any questions, thoughts, comments then chat away here :) :wow:
-
My kind of shopping and of course I will say again the Mugs are mine
Over the years I have had many duels with folks over the mugs and one year I even split a pair and we made more money
The Clan will of course be bidding as Daddy will be in Baku and we have the card number memorised :evillaugh:
-
oooh looking forward to this!!
-
Mugs? Who mentioned mugs? :shify: :shify:
-
does everything auctioned have to have a cat theme this year, as in previous years?
-
Hi nope it can be absolutely any fing :)
And what ya can do if you like to some way describe it as a cat related item for a but of fun
Ie something stupid like
Here's a great DVD film "the great escape" now I bet your cat would have loved to watch that when he was last at the vets !
Hee hee
-
 reckon our liz can start a mug shop soon ha ha
-
does everything auctioned have to have a cat theme this year, as in previous years?
It never has and has always been like what Tan said, you auctioned jewelry last year or year before, didnt you.
-
I love my Mugs :Luv2:
I of course live with a larger than average bunch of Mug Destroyers so therefore all the mugs are mine :shify: :evillaugh:
Wouldn't worry about whats going in we end in a bidding frenzy and sometimes are surprised when our winning items arrive in the post
-
Wooo hoooo it's nearly PACA time :Party 3: :Party 3:
For any new members who don't know me .... I have the rather unenviable task of contacting sponsors are procuring goodies for the PACA (love the acronym Tan :evillaugh:). As you can imagine this is no small task and usually about this time of year I start :pull hair:
This year we have once again been supported by some incredibly generous sponsors and some of the items we have been offered include:
A cat cave ..... http://www.etsy.com/shop/LoveCatCaves
3 x igloos and litter … http://www.igloopets.com/ ..... (yes you did read correctly ... 3 of these little beauties)
Simon’s Cat goodies (signed by the man himself)
Cat food from Arden Grange and Harringtons
A Cattitude "bowl" .... http://www.etsy.com/shop/HotFusionGlass?section_id=11873481
plus .... toys, safety collars, cat beds, and many more items ... but you'll have to wait until the PACA on the 18th November to see the rest of the lovely things.
We all appreciate times are tough and money is tight but Purrs peeps really are the best and I am sure you won't let us down this year :Luv2:
-
can't wait!!!!
-
PACA, love it :evillaugh:
I can't wait to see what goodies the generous Purrs members and companies have on offer :wow: Will have to get the boys to spend their pocket money on getting some things to auction :naughty:
On the subject of postage, it's now the flatter the better! :evillaugh:
The way postage prices are calculated has changed since last year and now even light things that are over 2.5cm thick are charged the same as heavy things eg a package over 2.5cm thick weighing 50g costs the same to cost as a 750g package of the same thickness.
See below, taken from here:
http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/Royal%20Mail_Our_Prices2012.pdf
-
Ooh, and if you'd like to help publicise the PACA to try and raise as much as possible for Paws Inn then please change your signature.
For the auction to be a success we need people to a) bid on things and b) donate things and to do this we need them to c) know about it!
Soooo, if people could temporarily change their signatures to help 'promote' the Auction that would be fab :)
It's easy:
- Hover over 'profile' button (towards top of screen)
- Move mouse down to 'Forum Profile' and click
- Scroll down to signature box and paste in the code* below
- Scroll down and bottom right click 'Change profile'
- Simples
To get the code:
If you click on the 'quote' button top right of this post then it adds my post (with all the formatting codes visible that make it look pretty) to the box where you normally type your reply. Just copy and paste this and follow instructions above to add it as your signature.
When you quote the post, this is the code you need to copy, in it's 'raw' format it begins [center and is in between the down arrows and up arrows.

Good heavens , what is the parcel rate? Not much comes in 2.5 cms thick
The post office are a total rip off and think we need some good courier rates this year.
I am I reading the chart right...........anything over 2.5 cms thick............ie a mug will have to gp parcel rate at £5.70 or was that 5.30??

Not sure where you're reading from? :evillaugh: A mug would be packet size and weigh less than 750g so would be £2.20 second or £2.70 first. It's light things that are thicker than 2.5cm that will be expensive to post eg, I bought some crinkle foil balls for the auction but even though they are light as a feather they cost the same as a mug to post (£2.70/£2.20) so I'll be bundling them in with something else rather than auctioning them on their own!
Can you see the chart jpg below? That's an easy ready reckoner :)
-
plus .... toys, safety collars, cat beds, and many more items ... but you'll have to wait until the PACA on the 19th 18th November to see the rest of the lovely things.
Just to clarify the date... the banner at the top of Purrs says 18th November (which is a Sunday and I think the auction has historically started and finished on a Sunday?) was the 19th a typo?
-
Yeah sadly Bloomin Royal mail got rid of the small packet price bands of up to 100g, up to 250g and upto 500g and now only do one price for upto 750g.
Makes sending one ping ping ball £2.20 2nd class!! but a flatter object (max size A4, under2.5cm thick, weight 100g) just 69p 2nd class !! mad!!
With me 1st post all credit for PACA and text goes to our Helen :shy: cause i nicked her post from 3 years ago and just updated ! :shify: :evillaugh: well no point in changing a brilliant thing is there! ;)
-
Yup It's def 18th as Sam told me! :evillaugh: ha ha ha
19th was from last year :)
-
So what will my silly auction item be this year .......... Hmmm well i have been saving Garf & Marl's dribbles into a nice little shell bowl with lid....
That's nice hey!
:-:
-

Thanks! Have changed dates on Sam's post, thought it might have been a typo as her sig (which I copied :naughty: ) said 18th ;D
How about we pay you NOT to auction poo/dribble/ear wax or something equally gross?! :naughty:
-
How about we pay you NOT to auction poo/dribble/ear wax or something equally gross?! :naughty:
arrr what ya mean you didn't like the chocolate cat poo i auctioned last year?! :-: :evillaugh: :evillaugh: I bet it was yummy! :evillaugh:
-
Just looked at the sizes lol, missed the word over!
-
This could be very dangerous for my bank balance lol
Every exciting though I look forward to bidding
-
Our auction is always massive fun ;D ;D
-
The mugs are still mine :shify:
It doesn't matter how hard the bank balance gets hurt it is for a very special place who are missing their wonderful founder who no doubt will be looking down at us all and thinking here we go again ;D
-
Can i just give a word of caution? Do NOT log on and start bidding if you've had more than one glass of wine!
I did that two years ago and spent twice as much as I'd intended!
-

-

Have corrected your typo there :naughty:
-
Just have one or two more than then you will be on first names with the postman
-
What a fantastic idea this is. Will definitely be interested in the simon's cat stuff.
-

It really is fab - great fun, loads of dosh raised for cat rescue and loads of good stuff to bid on :wow:
If you want the Simon's cat stuff you'll need to get in training now as the fights in previous years have been fierce :scared:
:boxer:

And last for the full two weeks :innocent:

Lol, I'll bear that in mind.

Ah this is lovely! I will be bidding! I might even have something to donate too.
If I donate, who do I contact to let them know?

:thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
If you have something you'd like to donate to the auction it's just a case of posting a thread for the item to be bid on in the auction board when it opens (from 18th Nov onwards) - if for any reason you'd prefer not to post the thread yourself I (or any of the mods) would be happy to post it for you :)
Here's an example of an auction post from last year...
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,39601.msg695666.html#msg695666
I can also help with posting pics for the technologically challenged! :naughty:
-
Ooh Great! Thanks! I'll find something lovely to donate in November then!!
-
That thread also shows the end process that we go through to make sure as much as we can that items are paid for before being sent out and then we also are told that they have arrived before the thread is closed.
-
If the items are as good as last year, I'm sorted for the family presents as well.
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,39740.0.html
Good choice of gift for my brother. Or my dad. Or anyone really. Perhaps my boss?

:oh noo:
Can I pleeze reassure people that this sort of thing is not what the Purrs Auction iz about at all :Nooooo:
Itz not all poo ............ really ............. honest :innocent:
:heeee heeee:
-
I may have one poop related donation this year .... :evillaugh: Just one though... ;) :evillaugh:
-
The PACA wouldn't be the same without some poo or similar item. I still smile when I think of Garf's furry balls being auctioned LOL.
-
 what the hell?
-
Ah yes indeedie. Garf always likes to go that extra mile for the PACA
-
If your furbabes like Hi-life cat food (of if you fancy giving it a try) .... we have had a huge donation of food from Hi-Life. Loads of varieties and some new stuff that's not even out in the shops yet :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Our lot want to try the Hilife ;)
Oh and the Mugs are mine :evillaugh:
-
It was a massive and very generous donation from Hi-Life, thanks to our wonderful Sam MME (Marketing Manager Extraordinarie), so think it would easily feed all 50+ of your clan for quite some time!
-
Our lot want to try the Hilife ;)
Oh and the Mugs are mine :evillaugh:
because of the stupid parcel rates nowadays I'll probably split the Hi-Life into 3 large lots (rather than lots of little lots).
-
Well done Sam :Luv: :Luv: your hard work has paid off!!
oooooo i'm looking forward to the Auction already!! ;D ;D
Will have to sort some stuff for people to bid on my self as i only have one definite ;D ;D ...(not poo :shify: :shify: although i have plenty )
-
and while we're all in auction frenzy, we need to remember to keep a close eye on our Furrbabies :shify: :shify:....and keep count of them too :shify: :shify:

I used to ... not so sure now though.
-
If its a choccie egg no problem
The Clan have a an unusual entry as well
The Mugs are mine :shify:
-
ooooooh I'm so looking forward to this years PACA .... we have had some lovely donations again this year including some lovely artwork, fabulous modern jewellery (you don't need to bid on the cat ear rings I'm having them :evillaugh:), a unique cat food bowl (really stunning), cats toys, cat food oh and a ½ pint cat
-
Would anyone be interested in. Voucher for around £40 - £50 off a tattoo in Lincolnshire , think I can get that arranged if there would be any interest .
-
That's a kind offer bunglycat, I guess it depends if there's anyone local that's into tattoos - I guess you could bid on it though :naughty:
-
Great offer but Lincs is a bit far from me :( ... actually that's not entirely true .. I could get there but I don't have any more spare cash (£40 would get about an hours work and I know I would need alot more than an hour to get done what I want :-( )
-
This is one of last year's auction items as it is today, modelled by Dainty and Fontaine. I have included the photo of the original for comparison. Errrrrm did it come with a guarantee? :shify:
Its certainly been well used - they love it.
-
It looks like it's been .... well "loved" Carole
-
They've obviously made their own modifications Carol :evillaugh:
-
Good god...

It's Helen who crashes the site. :naughty: Have you noticed there's no sign of her in the auction today. She'll appear by magic just before 8-00 pm and win everything she's bidding you mark my words. :shify:
I'm not envious, no way, oh dear me no, perish the thought. :innocent:
But you have been warned - if she's been bidding against you be afraid - be very afraid. :scared: :shify: :scared: :shify: :scared: :shify:

In all seriousness though, those that lost out have helped Paws Inn immensly just by bidding as if there were no bidders prices wouldn't have got as high as they did = less money for the Paws Inn cats and kittens so absolutely everyone involved can be very proud of themselves - bidders, winners, losers, auctioneers, companies that donated stuff, auction staff, MME (marketing manager extraordinaire) :gold stars: all round
-
Hahahaha! Never mind. There's always next year :D I enjoyed participating. Hope we made loads of cash for the fuzz bods :) I'll donate some to the finale thread later.
-
can I say I am in awe at the stuff Sam Fussy Furball gets out of the sponsors - it makes a huge difference

Completely every single person has just helped save a needy cat. Just think, a cat lost and alone finds it's lucky way into Paws in care and you lots have helped them save that cat. Do ya know how many furbabes this will help? Just helping Paws Inn save one life, give that one needy cat food, love, comfort and care is priceless!
That's what you all done ere and and not just for one needy babe.
my heart is with you all :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

I so agree that the job Sam has done is fabulash and the things we have had in from the sponsors are amazing :wow:
Also things put in by Tan and everyone have all helped to make this the best auction ever.
The bidding has been supreme and I have never seen the like of it in the last 6 years.
Last weekend the bidding went on almost 24/7 and today the bids were astounding.
I just love you all for how much you care

You can always make a donation through the Purrs Bank or Paypal.......putting in your Purrs name and ACTION in the info :innocent:
-
Is that using the donate button below? Why do I need to put ACTION in?
It's a good idea, I just need to make sure I'm not funding Tan's booze store.
-
I think she means AUCTION
Gill's spelling is a lot worse than Tan's drinking ;)
