Title: Feed a Coventry Cat for Christmas
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 23, 2011, 23:03:23 PM
LOTTIE and WILLIAM

Lois (she appears above in her own thread  ;D ) came to the group very pregnant and within a few days she had 5 kittens and one died the next day.

Two of her other kittens have been homed leaving Lottie and William. These two are  showing signs of Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which is also known as ‘wobbly kitten syndrome’ and will need a special indoor home.

KAY and ROXY

Dumped in a hedge at the local Tesco megamarket, Kay and Roxy have been with us since February this year. They are very nervous with people and no one has shown any interest in them.

JINGLES

Jingles(683) is about 5 years old and was brought to a fosterer one day by her owner who claimed she was a stray and she has been with us for nearly three years now, arriving here in April 2009. She is our longest serving resident.

Jingles is quite a quiet cat and will be suited to an adult household as a single cat. She enjoys sleeping in quiet places and enjoys food time. She also enjoys being fussed.

JULIET and PORTIA

Juliet and her daughter Portia, with me since June 2010.

Juliet came in with Romeo (now rehomed) and 4 kittens, trapped in a garden when the kittens were about 5 or 6 weeks old. Kittens were poorly and of the 4 kittens all died apart from Portia. Juliet is very loving and Portia is very timid and still will not let me touch her.

FLUFFY

Fluffy was 17 years old when he arrived in June 2009.

Angie received a call from a woman one Saturday to say that she needed to rehome her cat, because she was going abroad later that day. Angie explained that there was no room and asked if she had tried elsewhere, the women said no. A very exasperated Angie told her to ring around and recontact her if no luck but gave no assurances. At that age, he would be going nowhere but here.

When  Angie arrived, the woman (in tears!) was sitting on the floor in an empty house, with Fluffy in a basket on her knee. Her neighbour had advised her just to put him out and lock up.

He was not used to other cats and at first was aggressive, he wasn't one to back away. But the other cats are used to this with newbies and tended to ignore him. It took a few weeks but he has turned into a charming chap, he sits on the back of the sofa by the radiator with the others and loves fuss and attention. He has a passion for chicken or coley, and reluctantly eats whiskers in the evening (if nothing else is going). His character is amazing, he should be called the Major but at 18yrs we kept his own name, afterall, sometimes that is all they have left.

TICKLES

Judith took a young female cat in today, due to go to the vets on Monday, and to a new adopters after the operation.

She was hosting a big party, and we have removed 40 unwanted guests at the moment.  Most were wriggly, and given a hot bath for their trouble………  While we did this she was a star, apart from the odd “meowww” as a visitor was removed she was so good.  No claws or teeth the whole time.

Her skin around the head is in poor condition, and will need lots of TLC to get her to the condition she deserves.  She will need more treatment as very likely to have a few hanging on not yet found.

Gills NB

I was sent a picture of her guests, blooming loads of them but thought you would appreciate not seeing them but they would have sucked her to death  :(

SLIM JIM

Jimmy (as in Slim Jim because he isn't!)

We had a call at the beginning of September about a stray cat in a garden in the Binley area.  The householder said that he seemed to be hanging around a lot of the time, and he seemed to have a bad eye.  I said I would go across
and scan him for a microchip in the hope of reuniting him with his owner.

I heard no more about the cat, and then a day or so later, received a call to say she thought I was going round.  So I asked her to send me a 'photo of his eye so I could estimate how urgent it may be. She managed to send me a photograph via Facebook and I couldn't get the image out of my head.  So after a couple of days, I couldn't bear it any longer, and went over to scan him.

He was sat on a chair by the dining table in the corner of their kitchen, he was a large cat, indeed, we found out he weighed around 6.5 kilos.  Sadly there was no chip found.  So when I saw how bad his eye looked, we took him straight to the vets .  I had no appointment, but when I showed the practice manager, she kindly slotted us in straight away.

The vet examined him with the special dye and prescribed some medication for him, and gave him some pain relief there and then.  So we tried to make him feel better for the next couple of weeks with eye ointment twice a day, and
some Metacam (pain relief) added to his food once a day to keep him comfortable.  He did seem better in himself, but the eye didn't seem to have improved really.

I was also concerned about his mouth, there seemed to be a nasty smell, and when the vet examined him there was a small lesion on the left hand side of his mouth.  So I hoped that the medication would help it settle down after a
few days.

When we took him back, the vet agreed with us that it didn't seem any better, but she wanted us to see the senior vet first before any decision such as removing his eye was made.  So we came back a few days later and it was decided that it must come out.  If we had left it alone, he would have been in some discomfort (because he seemed better on the pain mediation) and there was a greater chance it would become infected at any time.

So out it came and he had to wear his Buster collar, or as I now call them, his "party hat".  I put him in a large hospital recovery pen in the cat room, but he managed to rub his face on the mesh of the pen.  So there were
a few frantic emails to Angie and a trip to her house at 10.15 at night to collect a small dog sized "party hat" which she had used when one of her own very  large cats had an operation previously.

He had his packing removed from his eye after a week, and then about another week later, he had his stitches removed.   The verdict on his mouth was that that too seemed better thankfully.   He has been superstar throughout his treatment, far braver than I could ever be.

He loves a cuddle and purrs quietly whilst enjoying a good tickle behind the ear, he has no problem allowing you to pick him up and give him a cuddle. He enjoys sitting on a cushion which I made from a donated fleecy jumper.

Jimmy has to be one of the most grateful cats we have had in the Group for a while, he just appreciates the simple things in life.

SOOTY

A beautiful black boy of 15yrs when he came to us. His friend/carer had died following a long period in hospital. The American relatives had thought of taking him back but felt he would be too traumatised. They had tried to get him in everywhere but as usual everywhere was full. They regrettably made an appointment at the vets for PTS, but made it for the day before they went back to the US, just in case....then they tried CCG and Sooty became one of our long-termers.

He has been with us since aug 2009 and despite a small stroke that means his head tilts slightly to one side, he has settled and become a prominent part of the family. He always had fresh fish on a Friday, and so this practice continues, with fresh chicken on other occasions.

He waits for this quietly but determinedly and eats it with relish. He goes out, spends time in his garden, comes back, eats and goes upstairs to his bed where he sleeps for hours on end.

Just a nice elderly man who knows his own mind.

LOIS

Lois came to Cov Cats very pregnant and within a few days she had 5 kittens. Sadly one died but the the other four survived and all had symptoms of Cerebellar Hypoplasia.

Two of the kittens have been rehomed but Lottie and William in the last thread on here still need the right home.

Lovely Lois also needs a new home.

These are the 12 Cats selected by Angie and the Coventry Cat Group to represent them for your donations, one each for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I just love the smiley Jingles with exactly the right name  ;D

Everyone of them is gorgeous and deserve to earn loads of Chrissy dinners for all the Cov Cats.

It is £1 a dinner  :hungey:
