Post by: Sand P on October 14, 2011, 14:53:59 PM
Hello - we are missing our beloved Larry Grills. He's an adult male, ginger and white, with amber eyes wearing a black collar. Last seen SW18 on October 03, 2011. PLEASE call us on 07840 265 680 or 07939 163 603 if you have any news of him - he needs meds!

Thank you

Hello there.

Welcome to Purrs, although no doubt we would all wish you had found us in happier circumstances than your beloved boy having gone missing. He's very handsome.

I do hope that you get him back quickly, and safe and sound.  There's a lot of useful information on the forum in connection with trying to locate missing cats, just in case you want to check and make sure you have all of your options covered.

So many of us know directly what you're going through, and how devastating it is when they're missing.  Please accept a heartfelt wish from us all that Larry Grills comes back to you soon.

Larry Grills found this afternoon locked in a deserted flat around the corner. Very weak and dehydrated, basically skin and bones but meowing like a banshee. Staying in surgery tonight for iv drip and tests so paws crossed.

Hi Gill (sneakiefeline)
We were all very lucky, I guess. We had posters up all over the nieghbourhood and in shops, delivered about 150 fliers and put two ads in the paper, but only got a handful of calls. The landlord of this flat was just stopping in to see if it was ready for his new tenants when he found faeces on the floor. He had to move all the furniture and take a good look around because poor Larry had hidden himself and curled up, resigned to the fact he was gong to die :(. The landlord saw our poster and called us asap so we ran over to pick him up. I don't think he would have lasted another day- almost 8 weeks without food or water is pretty incredible. News from vet is good - he's responding to fluids and has eaten so she expects him to be okay - possible chance of slight brain damage from such severe dehydration though, poor guy, but that might clear up too. What a story! He always was a little fighter, when we got him from Battersea they gave him to us for free because they were sure he wouldn't make it more than six months (bad cat flu, heart murmur, basically born in the shelter...) but 6 years on he was the king cat of the neighbourhood! He should be home to convalesce at the end of the week. Yay! :thanks:

What a terrible ordeal for the poor mite.  Have everything crossed that the vet is right and he recovers.  Hope no long term damage.  So very sad.

Any idea how he got in and yet couldn't get out of the flat?

Hi Rosella - no idea, really, but there were builders in there about that time and he was hanging about in the garden making friends, as usual, and I guess got left behind and locked in. We also think the people who lived there before might have been feeding him or something, but I doubt we'll ever really know. Just so, so happy to know where he is and that he's in good hands.

Oh poor little soul.   Horriffic to contemplate what must have been going through his mind.  Poor baby.

Thank God he was found in time, and very much hoping any after effects will be limited and will heal.  Good on you Larry Grills - you are one Ace Survivor cat.

Hi! Larry Grills is doing well, though still at the vet's surgery (thank heavens for insurance!). He's gained about 700 grams (his original weight was a hefty 7kg and his weight when he arrived at vet's was 3.5 kg)and can now hold himself up properly. He's been eating loads and though he can't walk yet, he can muster to the food bowl if you move it away. Every day he's getting stronger  ;D. He's been for a MRI because he's still a bit wobbly and slightly anaemic so results will be back today/tomorrow. He now has a punk hairdo from where they had to shave a patch of his head, but he's in good spirits. Still kicking!!

Hi everybody - here is a pic of a wiser Larry Grills coccooning on the sofa. He's doing great - gaining weight, walking around flat, scouting for mice. I tried to get him to pose with our Christmas moose antler hat on, but he was having none of it.
Happy Meow-lidays!! ;D
