Am glad that her organs are fine, and that you cna shift any infection she may have. Am glad the RSPCA are willing to cover vets bills, but I would personally insure her regardless - I would rather know that I had 6k to play with than be beholden to an animal charity who may have a limit on what they can pay - the rescue Snowy came from covered vets bills if you used their vet, but I preferred to pay myself and let them save the money for other needy cats.  We have a similar policy, you can't always afford to do everything you would like.

Holly says thank you for your kind messages!

Uncle John, the vet, rang today, her organs are fine, but is concerned she may possibly have some bacterial infection (I'm going to start a new thread on this).

Thanks for the info on insurance - I didn't think you could insure older cats - but the RSPCA have said they will pay for all her vets bills.

Ela, Holly was kept in a private cattery and I was told unless there is something obviously wrong, they simply can't afford to give every cat who comes in a comprehensive health check , I agree not ideal, but I guess they can only do what funds allow.

How nice of you to adopt a golden oldie. As Holly had been in care since before Christmas, you would have thought the said society had noticed that she has a ravenous appetite and is drinking a lot, wouldn't you? All our 'Golden Oldies have bloods taken and we pay for life any vet bills that are for any age related problem. If only more people would give  the older cats a chance , at the moment we have so many oldies and if we cannot home some soon we will not be able to help so many younger cats.

What a lucky little girl to have been chosen by you, I'm sure she'll repay you a thousand times over in love and cuddles  :Luv:

If you are thinking of getting her insured I just looked at M & S and it is £122 for the year so £10 a month with NO excess, that presumes that there are no pre existing conditions that you are aware of or have been diagnosed and that she is fully vaccinated.  If she's not vaccinated they don't cover conditions that arise as a result of not being vaccinated.  As Desley said you'd have to wait 2 weeks before you could claim so if the tests could wait until then...

Aww, she looks lovely. You might want to get her insured before doing bloods, but it does mean they wont be able to be done for 2 weeks. The back legs could also be due to being in a rescue, Molly was like that, although she had been in longer than 3 months, but hers improved dramatically within 2 weeks.

Aww bless her  :Luv: :Luv:
Ask the vet about low potassium, that makes them wobbly, flat footed etc hypokalemia or something like that!  :-: :innocent:

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce ' :H: :O: :L: :L: :Y:', a very elderly lady, that we have just adopted from our local RSPCA branch!

We don't know much about the little tabby, except she was a stray picked up a week before Christmas, so her age has been estimated.
We picked her up yesterday; she is a very friendly, funny thing:  a bit wobbly on the back legs, bandy on the front and somewhat boss-eyed!

She was given a clean bill of health, but I've noticed already that she has a ravenous appetite and is drinking a lot, so it's off to the vets tomorrow morning for bloods...
