Title: maine coon in urgent need (Rehomed)
Post by: holliedale on May 09, 2013, 21:40:49 PM
hi all, i need help, my beautiful 1 1/2 year old maine coon needs a new home, we have just found out our baby is allergic to her, she is a stunning black and white girl, pedigree, spayed, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, indoor cat, loves my two collies, loves kids and everyone. She is beautiful black and white girl. I thought i had a perfect home for her with a friend, but have been let down,  my main concern is a loving home for her,  please can anyone help, im totally devasted, ive have never had to rehome any animal,b

Sprry to hear you're having to rehome your cat  Have you had the allergy confirmed as a cat allergy? Reason I ask as, in my own experience, Doctors are often very quick to point the finger at cats without having this confirmed by way of an actual allergy test. It would be heartbreaking to rehome and then discover that your babies allergy was no better  :shy:

If you're certain that the baby is allergic to her, and you've explored stuff like wooden flooring to reduce dander, keeping out of the bedrooms and things like petal cleanse then it's worth contacting the breed rescues to see if anyone is looking for an addition to the family. I would have thought that she was very 'desireable' what with her breed plus being good with kids, dogs, in good health and also being a relative youngster.

A couple I found from a quick google...

Please may I but in and ask about 'petal cleanse' ? My son doesn't live at home anymore but he is allergic to Alfie and suffers quite a lot when he visits.

Hollie, I do hope that you  find a solution to your situation soon.

That's a shame  I know it's quite far from you but I have heard good things about this pedigree rescue, they don't just rehome persians and might have somebody interested in a Maine Coon or have a space available to take her in. If you do rehome her yourself so make sure to do a homecheck before you let her go.

It's a liquid that needs to be wiped over the coat once a week and is apparently quite effective, also worth getting your son to take an antihistamine before he comes over.

Awwww thanks Liz.

Should say really that because of already owning a MC I know what to expect with them. I currently have 1 MC and 3 cross breeds - all my cat are rescue cats.

I have 2 twin girls ages 4 in a couple of weeks but they have grown up with cats and handle them very well.

[hijack alert] Thanks for the info about petal cleanse. Poor M lives on antihistamines when he is here, and ventolin! Have tried allergy wipes from pets at home (I think it was) without much success [/hijack]

Can possibly help with a transport run/relay?

I'm in London and will be coming up to the West Midlands over the next couple of weeks.

Don't mind nipping down to north Kent to collect her first and I can put her up overnight if necessary in my spare room.

Could Mrs R get to the Coventry/Nuneaton area? Or someone collect her from me there?

Lets see what transpires when Hollie sees this. I have a trip to Nuneaton on the cards, and could do it tomorrow if it's our only option. Let's see.

I'm out (again!) tonight but will take my phone with me. Can I send you my number by PM, Mrs R? Then we can do this by text while I'm out?

Will look for you on FB, but I'm rubbish at FB on the phone, prefer old fashioned text.  :shy:

Thanks Gill, don't want to put pressure on Hollie but if we can only get this one shot at a 150+ mile transport run, we need to move quickly.

Elle, are you a homechecker for RACR these days?

Elle, are you a homechecker for RACR these days?

I can do if required, but I'm now running my own rescue so am generally quite busy homechecking my own adoptions, but still happy to work for others if needed ;)

Mrs R is well know to us and dont think a homecheck should be necessary in this case.

I have resent the message to Hollie so she gets as a popup and as an email.

If we can help, we will, but I've run out of time today to do this run for you. We need miles better communication from you if we're going to help rehome your cat.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and can't believe Hollidale hasn't replied. I'm starting to wonder if she's ignoring this because she's done something stupid! Really hope this isn't the case.

People sometimes forget that we are real people on the end of these posts, wanting to help and putting the cats needs ahead of our own.

Just sayin' ...

Keep the faith, Nikki. There may be a very good reason for this yet, and she may well still come to you.  :grouphug:

But yes, now you've set your heart on a pal for the magnificent Wilburforce people will keep you in mind, I'm sure. Must admit when I was searching through the lost pet registers this morning (for another sad cause) I spotted a couple of MC listings and thought of you.

Meanwhile, there's still a cat here in need of rehoming. I hope Holliedale is OK and her cat has found her new home, safe and sound.  :shify: If not, please come back?  :oh well:

apoligises that i havent been able to reply have had problems with my tablet i could see emails and messages but couldnt get it to send replys  :-[ i reallyppreciate everyone trying to help, but thankfully now its all been resolved, she has gone to live with friends who have a beautiful young male maine coon as a companion for him and i have to say before anyone jumps to conclusions he is neutered, i have been involved with ragdolls and mainecoons for many many years, including showing, rescue and am fully aware of the care and attention required by these breeds and many others. This has been one of the hardest things i have ever had to do, i have never had to rehome one of my own. I have been involved in many rehabilitation cases, mainy dogs. And its alway hard when they find there forever home and i have to say goodbye, but i thought my girl would be here for life, i miss her terribly already but i know she has the very best home for life, plus i get visitation rights lol! Thanks again to everyone and sorry i couldnt get to reply sooner xx
