Yes beautiful photo link works okay for me.
Julie.
-
Works for me and Kasper is :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
Good to see you back Mark, will you be sticking around? I've missed your handy household hints and best buys info. :evillaugh:
-
Thanks Carol :)
I will be sticking around, but I think there will be a lot fewer posts (can't believe I posted 32,000 times over a 5 years!)
Now I have worked out how to post the Google links, I will introduce the new cats with a story to go with each one. Kasper is the most recent, so he will be last.
We never planned on getting young cats, but it just happened as they turned up.
Just some teasers

Works for me and all gorgeous but do love Domino :Luv2: :Luv2:

He is a 'proper cat'. He turned up in the garden last October and refused to budge. I tried the paper collar, reported through CP and Animalsearch, but no joy. It was mild, so I tried to make him a shelter and bed (the actual shelter was occupied by one of the torties that you may remember - but that is another story for another time) I found out that his bed on the floor was soaked, so we bought him into the spare room and had him on the CP waiting list. At the time, Laz was really poorly and all but blind. Somehow Laz got into the room. Instead or fur flying, Laz took an instant like to him and the feeling was mutual. We decided to keep Dom as he was a great companion for Laz. They slept right next to each other on the sofa and Dom allowed Laz to clamber over him without complaining at all He was in Awe of Laz. This was within minutes of them meeting in the junk room https://goo.gl/photos/nD6UiyCSEYQD724P6
They were together all the time https://goo.gl/photos/MBPheEy4qbuQNWXZ8
https://goo.gl/photos/PVfC63AENCXxYWto7
https://goo.gl/photos/U7fDqy4wTxdHrYXBA
Bearing in mind that it took months for Dom's hormones to settle. In the meantine, he was fighting any cats that came in the garden https://goo.gl/photos/kXT6M7pQmaZKKvN77 https://goo.gl/photos/gemeEthNJDRUeWNKA
But in the house, he was so good around the existing cats, that even Kylie accepted him :) https://goo.gl/photos/fZTDTCKEZ5Q7LXUcA (there was a blazing wood burner to the right :innocent: )
So that's Dom. Dennis is convinced that Dom never got over losing his friend Laz. They were inseparable.
PS - The vet estimated Dom to be around 5 - he was un-neutered, but not for long :) - he has one canine missing and the other one is broken in half. I would love to know his story before he arrived here.
We said 'That's it, no more cats........ until Ingrid came along. I will tell her story next. (another day)
PS - Ignore the dates on the photos. My camera was set a year out - I corrected it recently.
-
Aw Mark - an unadulterated cat in the true sense. How lovely that he formed such an instant rapport with Laz.
:Luv:
Know all about the "No more cats" theory. ;) :evillaugh: It's so good to see you back on Purrs. :)
-
he does sound like a proper cat! how lovely that he and Laz got on so well, kasper looks very similar to our late Oscar - so you have four now, we are down three - yes would love to her about the tortis, remember them well
-
Thank you for sharing the photos and story. Look forward to more.
Julie.

Thanks everyone Next up, Ingrid. We lost Lazarus to a liver tumour early in March and obviously were were still upset (and still are) but I got a phone call from Nicola, who runs Izzy's cat rescue. She had a call from a woman who had taken in a stray, very young, cat. She had changed her mind about keeping it. Nicola told her that she was going away for 5 days (it was Nicola's first chance to finally visit her family in Wales and take their late xmas resents) but when she got back, she could take cat in. Nicola had a couple of cats in her house already, but they were ones that got on and a feeder was going to come in each day - there was no way she could put an unknown cat in with them) The woman said she couldn't wait as apparently her son was allergic. She said that unless Nicola took the cat in straight away, she was either going to ut it back on the street or offer it on Facebook to the first taker. Nicola said I was the only person she could think of as all hr fosterers either had cats already or were away. I said 5 days was fine and not to worry. This was her first day, hiding under the bed https://goo.gl/photos/2NZPDWRgHbXnYeFa8

Kasper.
In the middle of June, a tiny young cat kept coming over the fence at night, trying to dodge Domino to grab bits of food. After w while, I was beginning to wonder if it had an owner. We had some old garden furniture piled up at the back of the garden after having it landscaped and he was hiding in that. He kept running away from me, but was trying to be brave and head butting and purring. One the really hot day, it reached 38 degrees and he was panting. I was really worried and even went to the vet next door to ask if he would be OK. https://goo.gl/photos/WPWSdGZCYDL8ELFE7
We realised that he was the least agressive cat we had ever seen. He loves other cats and just headbutts them. We were concerned about how Ingrid would react. She hissed a couple of times, but within hours, they were eating together and chasing each other around the house https://goo.gl/photos/UVcwGBZ5DfEuGooJ8

Dreamies to the rescue with Ingrid. I agree, that favourite photo is simply gorgeous. Love all the photos. Such a sweet natured looking cat.
Julie.
-
So lucky that Kasper was such a nice natured cat and happy to fit in with Ingrid. Handsome boy he is.
Julie.
-
Thanks Julie. You wouldn't even know he had claws. He never has them out near people. He rubs up against other cats to greet them. Domino doesn't know how to handle it. Kylie has swiped him a few times, as has Dom. He just throws himself on the floor and shows his belly. His only bad habit is biting Ingrid's flank. She screams and then chases after him, so it is all in play.
-
What a dear little soul he is.
Julie.

Also a few people might remember the two tortie sisters that were hanging around for years. We understood they were owned, but not very well cared for. As time went by, they were speding more and more time in the garden. One of them, especially was there most of the time. She spent most of the previous winter in Kylie's Mr Snugs kennel with a flectabed and a big fluffy bed in it. I decided once and for all, they couldn't keep being outside all winter and I was going to find out if they were owned and have it out with the owner. I asked around and one of my neighbours said they belonged to the man in the 2nd house in around the corner. I spoke to the vet next door, they said they couldn't give too much away, but confirmed that he had registered 2 cats with them 7 years previously and that they had only been there once and that was for spaying. I went to speak to him. He was an ageing hippy stoner type who makes and mends guitars. I asked if they were his cats. He said 'well they are and they aren't. I never see them. I assumed they had gone to live somewhere else as cats do" - I said "Do they? - mine don't, but then again, I look after them" - he said that they were his daughter's, but she had grown up and moved away. He said he tried to get them to go in the house more, but they ran away from him. I said that was odd as they are both always after being picked up by me! - I asked what he planned to do. He said 'what do you want me to do?' - I siad he needed to decide if they were his cats and if they were, he needed to start looking after them or I would contact the RSPCA (I said that for effect) and other rescue charities to get them in a home where they are wanted. He said he had sold his house and was moving soon, but he didn't think he would be able to catch them. I told him to just let me know and I could easily get them in a carrier. They both carried on hanging out in the garden and being fed by me. About two weeks later, one of them disappeared. I went round there again and there were new people in the house. I can only assume they took one of the cats and left the other behind. As it was getting cold, I spoke to CP and got the other on the waiting list and kept her in out attic bedroom in the meantime. Kylie and 'Victoria' had always fought, so there was no way we could keep her. We ended up waiting 3 months until they could take her (quite possibly as they knew me as I had been a long-term volunteer and put other cats first, knowing she was looked after). She was rehomed immediately after a minor dental (she a beautiful tortie) - so that was that.
we have a similar situation with a beautiful long-haired black cat we call Lazalike (as she looks like Laz :shify: ) the now retired receptionist in the vets knows the owner. She spoke to her a year ago and was told that it is her cat, but since she got a dog, the cat won't come in the house and that she doesn't see her from one week to the next - I feed her 3 or 4 times a day. I would love to get her rehomed, but she really is semi-feral. Even after 18 months of feeding, she is still scared of me and hisses every time I feed her. I'm not sure that CP would even be able to home her :(

And one taken with the laptop on the day I was handing her over to Julie at CP (it was tough as I loved her to bits) btw - the owner said they were feral, as he got them when they were 6 weeks old from a farm :tired: https://goo.gl/photos/Zv1LCcf1qV81SX2t8

Mark, am loving all of the photos and the updates. ;D You really are - and always have been - cat magnets. :) Your babies are just beautiful. :Luv: :Luv:
-
lovely update mark, glad one of the torti girls is ok
-
Hopefully they are both OK. I'm more confident about Victoria being looked after properly after her being adopted via CP. The odd thing is, I was speaking to the receptionist next door when this all happened and she said a woman came in to give them a change of address, which obviously she wasn't able to tell me.
PS - The google photos I am linking to blow up if you click on them when you see the small image.
-
do you still help out at Canterbury cp? just seen you've changed cat litter on another thread, am toying with trying something else, we've moved house a couple of months ago and the new carpet and oko don't mix!!
-
Not with Canterbury CP any more. I was rarely being asked to do anything and it wasn't for me any more (won't go into details)
As for the new litter - I love it, but it weighs a ton. I tried a few other clumping wood litters, but none of them came anywhere near to the old OKO. Have you tried the other OKO Dawn? - I forget what it is called (clumping gold?), but apparently the bigger pellets are less likely to stick to paws and fur. It is more expensive than the standard one.
PS - We have another sink cat! :Luv:
-
so like Oscar, gorgeous!! think we have that sink now, who to you clean it, our new house was a bit rough when we moved in and I've been using bleach but it still isn't that clean
-
It is Corian Dawn. Hard to believe that it is the largest size they made them in and that it takes a jumbo litter tray! - he has grown so much in just 4 months. For any stains on the counter, I use a tiny bit of Bar Keeper's friend cream (Like Cif, but much better) the base of the sink gets stained with tea, coffee etc. I normally leave some bleach water in the bottom for an hour, or Domestos spray bleach. I used to be able to leave it, but Kasper and Ingrid are always jumping on the counter (as as you have seen, Kasper gets right in :) ) so harder to do now. Ingrid comes running when she smells bleach. The bottom is getting quite stained. I can scour it with Bar Keeper's Friend, but bleach works better.
I also use limescale remover gel on some of the marks on the drainer and around the taps. Also not managing to do it as well lately, as I can't just leave it on for a few hours or overnight these days. I was thinking that it probably looks cleaner in the photo than in reality :evillaugh:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keepers-Friend-Purpose-Power-Cream/dp/B00BSAA38K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447086947&sr=8-2&keywords=bar+keepers+friend As I only use a tiny amount at a time, one of these lasts months. I think it must have a stain remover as well as being slightly abrasive. The powder version is more abrasive than the liquid, so I don't like using it so much.
-
Lovely to see you back Mark ;D, will now catch up with this thread :)
-
Hi Mark, it is great to meet you and your furkids. Lovely photos - just as I decide one cat is my favourite you show another one!
-
Love the updates too and the pics.
What a lovely furry family you both have ;D
-
I am so enjoying all the photos and stories.
Julie.

Thanks everyone :)
I know we shouldn't have favourites of our own cats. I think we just love them differently. Kasper is so affectionate with me.

Lovely, lovely photos. Really enjoyed looking at them. What lovely markings your cats have. :Luv2:

Particularly love the one of Ingrid only being allowed out supervised...... :Luv:
-
Thanks everyone :)
Domino and Kasper both arrived in the garden as strays and only seem to go over the back to explore an overgrown garden. I just couldn't trust Ingrid as she is so skittish. I would love to cat proof so she could go outside whenever she wanted, but it would restrict the boys. Dom is quite a stressy cat. He overgrooms at times and comes up with sores. He had some tests done, which were negative and it seems to be fine at the moment, but I think he would be worse if he was restricted. (Not that I like the idea of free-roaming)
-
they are so beautiful cats!! my nephew died a couple of years ago and we ended up with his cat, it was not intended to be that way I just needed to get her somewhere safe as a neighbour had offered to "get rid of her" for him, whatever that meant, oh fell in love with her over a weekend and although her and tilly can't stand each other and have to be kept apart at all times she is still with us two years later, actually she is black and called willow like someone else!
-
Is she tiny like our Willow was? - hard to believe it will be 6 years in January since we lost our Willow.
-
Will have to check out the beds in HB ;D
Ingrid sounds quite a character :)
They are all gorgeous and must keep you busy :shify:
-
she was tiny, she had lived in 4 homes and was only just over a year old so you can imagine, she is a bit bigger now!
-
I don't know what happened there Alison. This should have been the photo next to the caption about Kasper modelling his Home Bargains bed https://goo.gl/photos/QGq7STSKBarPeYrJ8 I have some of Ingrid in hers somewhere.
That is awful for her being passed around like that - still, at least she won't be moved on again :)
-
Think Parki would love a bed like that and better than the one she has at the moment ;D
It is great that Ingrid has a forever home now ;D
-
Haven't got time at the moment to say more than loving the photos and great to see you back, Mark.
Kito is demanding flying frenzy and when he demands the whole world knows about it :shify:
-
OMG Mark, so nice to see you back  Hope you and Dennis are both ok and looks like you're having fun with more cats in your lives ;)
Don't havetime at the moment to read ll this but will do tomorrow.
Had a lousy year, you might have read my threads. My mum died in February and then Bonnie in April and then I adopted Tisha and Kitty and Tisha had to be pts only after having her for 3 weeks with mouth cancer. I still have Kitty although she has been very timid is now coming out of her shell a bit.
Mary x
-
Sounds like you had a rough year Mary. I will read your threads when I get the time. The cats are keeping me on my toes. Kylie is gradually gaining weight after wasting away from 6.5 to 2.6kg from chronic diarrhea - she still has it, but not as explosive, so he is getting some nutrients. The vet said it was a matter of weeks if she didn't turn the corner. She is back to whacking any of the others that invade her space - always a good sign.
I have a lot of catching up to do as I don't remember Kito Susanne.
I'm sure a few of us have had losses as well as gains in the last few years. Kylie is the only original one left and she was the first to begin with.
-
Aw poor Kylie, what has been causing the diarrhea. Glad to hear she has put on some weight and back in position of top cat :)
-
We really don't know. Initially the vet gave her ABs, then the he suspected Giardia, so she had a course of Metronidozole (sp) - again, no difference, then steroids, no difference, we tried diet changes, but she refused to touch hypallergenic food. The vet said that it was better she ate food that gave her the runs and got some nutrients from it, than little or none of the right type of food. We did a poo test and sent bloods off for testing Folates and B12. Her folate level was low (probably due to not absorbing enough from food) so she had a course of Folic acid - the poo test was negative. After 2 month, he retested and her folate was OK, but B12 was low. She started having weekly B12 shots and after 4 weeks, went down to every 3 weeks. She also has a probiotic capsule every day. So really, the weight gain doesn't seem to be down to treatment, it is just happening it seems. The diarrhea has gone from explosive liquid to soft poos mostly with some diarrhea. I bought some baby/pet scales on eBay and check her weight every few days. She has gone from 2.6kg up to 3.4kg in the last 4 or 5 weeks.
He also tested T4 to rule everything out.
About a month ago, the vet said the only was to know for sure was to do a biopsy. She was booked in and I dropped her off at 9am. I called at 2pm to see if I could collect her and was told that the vet had decided it was too invasive in her condition. He didn't say exactly what had been done, but she was woozy, so I assume it was a last-minute decision not to go ahead.
At the same time, he said her kidneys, heart and liver are in excellent shape for any age let alone a 16 year old. All her readings are pretty much bang in the middle of the normal scale.
-
Poor Kylie. Great that she's put back on weight.
I have a lot of catching up to do as I don't remember Kito Susanne.
Kito is my newbie. I lost Jaffa to kidney disease last year sadly. Kito is coming up to 10 months old now.
-
Sorry to hear about Jaffa - seems to be the biggest thing that affects cats :( - it does help having a youngster (or two) around though. It was sad to lose Laz so soon after Alice, but he seemed ready to go. He was very tired. The vet said he must have been close to 18, so did quite well having so many long-term illnesses.
-
Poor Kylie, it is such a worry. Great she has put some weight on but quite a mystery but doing well for 16.
Archie has had a lot of trouble on and off for a few years with the runs and blood in his poo. The vet recently found he had Giardia and put him on panucar for 10 days which really helped. He also had campylobactor and was given a three wk course of abs.
I had never heard of Giardia until the vet said Archie had it :-:
Hope Kylie's tum settles now
-
That cat bed looks so comfy. Love all the other photos as well.
Julie.
-
any pics of the landscaping mark, I know you were talking about it a while ago would love to see how it turned out
-
Just bare bones at the moment Dawn. It was a very basic job with a deck, path and some turf. The photo with Kylie and the seagull gives an idea.
-
Only pic I can see is the one in the sink, love it ;D
-
The sink photo is the only one posted on here, but the other links should open photos stored by Google. A small image opens, but when you click on it,the picture gets much bigger. I just tried and the links seen to be working.
-
yes I had a quick look, the grass is looking good, kasper seems to love it!

kidney disease is so cruel but Jaffa was very well up until the last few months. He developed high blood pressure and had a few seizures and then possibly a small stroke. He was stabilised on meds and we enjoyed a few more precious months until he took a turn for the worse a week after his 17th birthday. He was ready to go. Mosi was very lonely after Jaffa went although things are still a bit tense at times between him and Kito. He's had his own health problems this year too as an eosinophilic granuloma was discovered in his mouth during a dental and we still don't know what the underlying cause is so he's been through a period of upheaval and had lots of vet visits. It has been lovely having a kitten around though.

That's odd. I'm sure other people can. I'm not very techy, so no idea why.

yes they worked for me

Look where I found Kasper today. Luckily it is clean. Despite the fact that we have 4 trays for 4 cats (we did have 5, but I got fed up with stepping round one on the upstairs landing when it hadn't been used in months)
There are 3 human beds, 6 sofas, 4 armchairs and countless cat beds around the house. Not to mention 2 window seats and other places.

Love it, cats are funny creatures aren't they?! :naughty:
-
Daft boy! Perhaps he fancied a trip to the beach? :naughty:
-
JUst stunning pictures of cats and the two tabbies look related ;D
Time flies past so quick and I lost both Napoleon and Ducha in 2011 and 2012 :( and now have a 5 year old seal point birman called Lupin ;D
He travelled down from the otherside of Newcastle at 10 months after i saw him being advertized on that site and he was unneutered and had never seen a vet since he left his breeder!
He along with Mosi and Kito is one of the nortiest cats in the would
Must keep up with this thread more cos have only looked at about half of pics so far ;D
-
I remember you getting Lupin Gill.
Kasper and Ingrid are like chalk and cheese. Ingrid is a tiny, dainty little thing, but makes up for it with attitude and claws (although is a daddy's girl when the other cats aren't around) Kasper is big now, but still a soppy kitten who just slobbers and headbutts people and other cats. He is so soppy, that even Kylie is soft with him.

they really are lovely Mark! I've changed one of my litter trays over on your recommendation as a trial! here is my willow, only pic we have unfortunately as I still haven't found the camera since we moved in august! its her vet mug shot!
-
Still not working for me, it's google.
-
She does look quite small Dawn - Is she long-haired? hard to tell without my magnifying glass :evillaugh: - you will have to find your camera and put some bigger pics on.
Andrew - I wonder if it is your settings. I used to use photobucket or Imgur, but Google photos is so much easier as it automatically backs my photos up into cloud storage without me have to do anything. Not being techy, I don't get why others can view them, but you can't. I even Googled, but nothing comes up.
-
no short haired, I was never good with pics, although am thinking of moving with the times and getting a phone that does pictures
-
Don't worry Dawn. I'm not far behind. I have an iPhone, but never downloaded anything. They set the mail up for me, so if I want a photo off the phone, I have to email it to myself :)
I don't even like texting.
PS - I meant to say. Where the photos are dated, I realised that the date was a year out on my camera - and had been since I got it 3 or 4 years ago - I worked out how to change it a few weeks ago.

Thanks Dawn. I wish I could get him to eat more wet. He eats a tiny bit of Whiskas and AGAIL, but won't touch Felix, or any other wet foods (and there are lots of them! :) ) that I have offered him. The bulk of his diet is the Sainsbury's grain-free salmon dry.

It says one of the ingredients is 'chilled salmon meat' which is obviously a mistake :-: -on the bag it says fresh, rather than chilled - well worth £2.50 for 500g - He has the chicken one too, but isn't that keen on it.

see while you were away I stopped trying new food out and here you go tempting me to try something all over again!!! it will be litter next!
-
At least it is only £2.50! :D
