Hello from me and Monika, our lovely and first-ever fur baby. We adopted 2 year old Monika 7 months ago, and after 2 months with us she was diagnosed with fatal mammary cancer and given 6-8 months to live. We decided not to put her through chemotherapy but to get her treated with acupuncture and herbal supplements instead. 5 extremely happy & sad months later she is luckily still thriving and shows no signs of any pain or slowing down.
This sweet and gentle girl had been found in a box dumped on the street, 4 weeks' pregnant... Now she's found a loving home although sadly this won't be for very long.
She's sweet and silly and very loving - she has made our house into a home and we couldn't wish for a better companion.

Welcome to purrs :D
Oh my gosh she is sooo beautiful bless her
What fantastic people you are for giving her such a wonderful home.
So sorry about her cancer :( love to hear more about her. I bet she has a gorgeous personality :)

Thank you Tan! She certainly has a strong personality, and is very keen to get her breakfast served at 6am sharp. If not, her raspy little tongue makes sure we jump out of bed to feed her.
As independent as she is, coming and going as she pleases and patrolling the garden (chasing off any rival furry visitors), she's also very affectionate and has been rather attached, especially to me, from Day 1. A puppy in cat's clothing.
She is our first cat (although my husband grew up surrounded by at least 5 cats at any given time), and we're heartbroken that she won't be with us for long. She's still so young which makes it all worse. It makes it difficult sometimes to just enjoy the day... Luckily she has no idea what's going on, and is jumping, running and playing like any young and healthy cat.

:welcome: to Purrs :) Monika is a beauty and no mistake :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
Sorry to hear her time with you will be limited, but as you say she is blissfully unaware and unaffected at the moment, I hope this will continue and you have lots more time with your lovely girl

:welcome:
Monika is gorgeous - and, from the photos, looks extremely healthy. You'd never know she was ill at all!
-
Thank you Jiji and jezebel! She's on Loxicom pain medication, acupuncture, and we also try to feed her the best diet we can. She does have at least 1 mass in her lung, but youth is probably on her side and will keep her going for a while.
Right now she's sitting next to me (she really is a mummy's girl :Luv:), although not really a lap cat, she enjoys a good cuddle and is coming more out of her shell every day.
:thanks:

Hello and :welcome:
Monika is an absolute beauty and looks in such good condition, how sad that this is hiding the terrible truth :'( The wonderful thing about our fur babies is that they live in the moment and have no concept of the future, or fear thereof. I hope that you are able to enjoy your time together for many more months - or even years if a miracle happens.
-
A very big welcome to you and Monika. Am so sorry that you've found us in these sad circumstances, but your little lady is beautiful, and you're making her life a happy and wholesome one. That's beyond price.
-
Thank you for your welcome!
That's true, they live in the moment, and I can still learn a lot from her - especially how to relax!
Even after 7 months I'm still pinching myself every now and then - she's really living with us. It was love at first sight, we saw her photo on the Mayhew's website and knew she was the one for us. But ultimately she picked us, she was so friendly and relaxed on our visit it the shelter.
We believe that if we carry on as we are now she'll live well past the predicted 8 months.
-
It certainly sounds that way. I know that all of us will have our fingers well and truly crossed that she will see out more than the predicted 8 months. Love truly is a wonderful thing and can achieve much that cant be calculated by ordinary means.
-
I do feel sometimes that I mither her a bit - I'm fussing over her a lot and don't always get that balance right between interacting with her and leaving her in peace.
She's very good at indicating when she feels like playing though, and she's very forgiving.
-
Those photographs show one very happy and contented cat. I'd say whatever you're doing is just purrfick as far as Monika is concerned. :Luv:

:thanks:

What a beautiful girl she is ;D She looks very happy and content.
-
Monika is a beautiful cat and looks very content in her photos.

I can only echo all the other sentiments and hope she can be with you for ages

We had to put Monika to sleep on 8 January, she had liquid on her lungs that wouldn't drain. She had started coughing infrequently in early December and this was mistaken for furballs by us and the vet... I force-fed her the furball paste for 5 days because she hated the taste of it, and then she was out on a diuretic for a week to get her back to health. On day 6 she asked us to let her go. She was only 3. I never knew what "heartbroken" meant. I can't believe we put her through that last week of treatments. It was miserable. But we hoped she would get better again. She cried when the nurse restrained her for the euthanasia. She was such a fantastic cat.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful little girl. She was so young. You gave her your best and her short life was full of love. Play well at the bridge Monika xx

Thinking about you, and about the beautiful Monika. My thoughts go out to you. I know how empty it feels.
-
Thank you everyone for your kind words!
Am working on the memory/scrapbook and was laughing for first time in weeks remembering her little quirks :Luv2:
-
:) They're the only memories worth keeping, the ones that make you smile, and keep you warm.

We adopted 4 year old Francesca today. She had been in and out of shelters and foster homes since she lost her mummy in August, always getting overlooked. 2 days ago she stopped eating and was due to be fed with a tube. We just took her home.
She's tucking into her dinner now. Still sad over Monika but no longer feeling angry and lost.
-
I am very glad to hear that MM. I'm sure that adopting Francesca will be good for both of you ;D
-
Francesca looks like a darling girl. Very cute. I know you're still feeling raw, but Francesca will help to ease your pain and make your lovely memories of Monika the thing you keep close. Xxxxx
-
She loves water. A lot ;)
-
I'm sure she thinks she's won the lottery getting a noo furrever home. Xx
-
Aw hey Francesca - welcome to Purrs. :Luv:

Aw, she's gorgeous. I'm sure Monika had a paw in sending her your way.
