I am sorry to hear this, and I Do hope her cystitis bouts dont become too frequent, could you get Cystaid into her, that will help her bladder lining?
Please spay your cat

The vet has 'signed her off'. He says he muscles are atrophying and the acupuncture is no longer doing any good.

It was quite funny really 'cos he was digging in the needle to see if there was any response and he got none - even when he went up to her shoulders
I think she was having a mardy as I had washed her an hour before so she was clean (as opposed to me with all the dirty water splashed over my clothes and not enough time to change )

He says a very minute % of animals can recover some function after 6 months but it is less than 1% and its that good old quality of life thing. I said that I was not ready to make that call and he was fine with that as she is obviously not in pain (or not showing it at any rate!)
So thats it until I come to the acceptance of the final decision. He thinks it will be harder to keep her going through the summer months and cystitis will keep happening .......

Don't feel pressurised Angie... make any decision in your own time as you are the care giver.

It must be such a difficult position to be in and I really do feel for you and little Ebony.     whatever the outcome you have done your best by the little one.

no change I'm afraid and I think I am going to be put under pressure soon regarding quality of life from the vet  :'(

She has had cyctitis again, so had a covenia (sp) jab this time and is due for acupunture on tuesday. She's been a bit down but I've not had the time to give her much attention with the kittens and missing cat this week.

In the good weather we have had the patio doors open and as soon as she hears them open she drags herself out onto the patio. I then have to keep an eye on her - I don't think she can go any further but don't really want to risk it.

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( loving hugs to Ebony xxxxxx

Was wondering how Ebony got on at the vets this week, is there any improvement yet and did the vet give any indication of her prospects for the future

she doesn't really need constant care. She sleeps on a vetbed with a puppy pad under it (and then the catbed!). The vetbed is changed daily (and the pad) and the other bedding as necessary.
She has a puppy pad beside her which she sometimes manages to poo or or there will be a bit on the floor somewhere.

The only thing is the weeing, in that as she drags herself around she leaves a trail of urine, but as the downstairs is all laminate and tiles, I just mop over every so often. and of course, when i have her on my lap i have a pad under her.

It may be that normal incontinence pads might help with that as I have noticed an increase in peeing on the pads which of course is what they are designed for but I have no idea where to get the ordinary ones from (yeah, look it up on the net why don't I but I couldn't find anything in the several chemist shops I tried the other day).

So really all she needs is someone prepared to put up with that and give her fuss - and I'm still hoping for that miracle cure - I mean you see with humans that nerve damage can take a long time to recover.

it must be very difficult knowing what to do when the cat is ok on herself but just can't get around, such a shame, she must need constant care?  :(

no still no walking on her legs though she can push them when your annoying fussing her, and I'm sure they are stronger.
She likes her fusses, will drag herself all around the downstairs and tell you when shes hungry.

The next appointment is a week today and I don't know where we go from here  :(

Its going to be a hard call to make a judgement on her quality of life.

Thanks for that, is the acupuncture having any effect at all.do you think, can the vet not determine roughly how long she has been like this, whether its something recent or maybe an old injury that wasnt treated, im sorry to ask so many questions but she sounds like a little fighter and im following her progress with much interest,i would also like to know what the prognosis is if possible for her future in as far as they can say.

she was on my lap for a fuss yesterday for a good half hour before wanting off (and I was left with a little damp patch :Luv2:)

She was also dragging herself round the house and complaining in the utility room this morning 'cos I was up a 6am (felt thirsty and itchy and I now have 14 annoyed fronlined cats, 10 milbemaxed (ran out)) and still had not gone to get her any food by 8am.

She is her normal self. As we have no idea how long she has been like this it may be all she's known for years.

Hi Ebony is probably 8+ going on 14.
Just got back from seeing my mum (her b'day) to find that the rugs in the living room are in the wash. oh blames her for all the vomit and poo that appeared on them today (not angry blame that is)

could have been anyone.....

Anyway, things are washed and drying, puppy pads now turned the right way round with the clean vet bed on top (bless he did his best!).

She seems fine in herself though no improvement in the back legs really. As for rehoming - I don't think there is much call for a paralysed cat out there so if the decision is to keep her going I expect she will have to stay here.

Not had a paralysed cat before so not really sure where I stand in the quality of life debate.....

Today poor Ebony has cystitis - I was worried about how strong he urine was and mentioned it tuesday. Vet expressed her bladder then so don't know if thats made it worse or just a co-incidence. Appointment at 12-00. Hope that is all it is :(

good news is that someone phoned this morning and seen the article about her (not sure if in todays paper or on blog) and they have a pet wheelchair which they are bringing around today - aparantly they have offered it to all the local rescues and it has been refused

means I can throw my silly attempts out - less clutter  :evillaugh:

She may have just lost the muscle strength in them and that will never come back unless she uses her legs.

I am sure I have read on a post hear not so long ago about physiotherapy for cats and it maybe you need to help her to move her leags around to get some of the muscles working again.............dont know where you get advice about this except from your vet

An update on Ebony. She went along for her third acupunture session on tuesday.
Not sure how much good it is doing though I do think that she has more movement in her back legs when I tickle or groom her. She still chooses not to use them and we spend some time each day holding her in place.
We have more or less given up on the wheels thing as she panic when we try her in any of the contraptions we've put together (not that I blame her). Mr webb suggested cutting holes in an old towel and placing her in then like a sling - that works well but we don't gain too much as you have to keep a clse eye on what her back legs are doing.
Still the fourth session is next tuesday and we'll see where we go from there.

I think hydrotherapy would terrorize poor Ebony!

This is a really hard one and I would also question how she has been looking after herself cos if she cant use a tray she should have been absolutely filthy when found.

makes me wonder whether this paralysis has come on quite suddenly, old injury or not.

Poor little Ebony , thank you for trying so hard for her

I agree with Gill.  Has she had xrays  ... I was wondering if she has slipped a disc or similar jumping over / down from the fence.  This would explain how she was in the garden and is now unable to use her back legs.
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.
