Parki has just scratched one of her scabs off and her poor ear looks quite raw

The meds will be effective until next week. Will mention that to vet as she would not like to wear collar all the time

He did mention the type of cancer but all I can remember is that it is not aggressive and will not spread but there is a risk of ulceration

I will take a note pad when I see vet and write a few things down including that.The steroid jab may be a good option and will mention that when she has her review.

I would also ask my vet. If he said it is unlikely to spread, it mustn't be SCC, which is normally an aggressie type -- did he say what kind of cancer it was? Pebbles had pre-cancerous scabs on her nose, and we treated those with a monthly steroid jab - after 3, she managed about 3 months before they came back, so I would also ask about that.

If Parki is knocking of the scabs and this causes infection, I would be worried that she would end up having to wear a collar all of the time and think this maybe another thing that you need to talk through with your vet

Sorry about the news but if the vet says it's non-aggressive and will not spread then it does sound very positive

If unsure I always ask what my vet would do though and consider that along with my own thoughts.

Alison, I'm another one who would ask the question of my vet.

I would also see what research you can find from people who've had to make this choice themselves, and how they've fared via the available routes, just to give you as much of a balanced view as you can get.

Yup. I always ask "what would you do?" to my vets. I'm sorry to hear it's cancer, Alison. Poor Parki.

So sorry to hear the result wasn't good Alison but there is some relief in knowing its not the aggressive kind.

As for what to do next, I think Gill and Den have summed it up very well. The "what would you do if it was your cat" is always a good one to ask.
Many cats seem to manage very well for many years without ears. I suppose the big question is whether keeping them affects her health and will they get worse.

Your comments are really helpful and will ask vet a few more questions. I do not fully understand about infection. I think it could be to do with lesions that may form on her ear and get infected

Alan's a really good vet so I'm sure he will make the best choice. You could even double check with David or Ollie. I totally trust them and they are so honest with their opinions (especially David). Poor little Parki, I was really hoping for non cancer. At least it isn't really nasty.

Before making a decision I would prefer to here from your vet what are the percentages of Parki being healthy still with ears left on and what if ears removed and what effect on Parki will the infection cause.

It would also be nice to know what he would do if it were his cat, thats often a good way of coming to a decision.

The vet phoned with Parki's results this afternoon. The lump was cancerous but not of the aggressive sort. Alan says it will not spread.

The options are to have her ears taken off or to try and manage ears. This would entail antibiotics if scabs get infected but this may not happen for another year. Care would have to be taken when she is out in the sun which does not happen very often as she prefers to stay in.

I have to take her back in two months for a check up.

I would like to try and keep Parkis ears at the present time and was wondering what you would do

The vet has just phoned to say she has come round from op. They also took chest xray in case of spreading cancer and thankfully it is clear

I can pick her up at 2pm, can't wait

Just have fingers crossed that biopsy will be ok but more prepared if its not

She had her ears removed while at CP alison but Im told she recovered pretty quickly. Bless her she was at CP for 6 months because people were put off by her earless look but that worked in our favour cos we got her ! Attatched pic is her at CP

Good luck for Parki, we had our darling Moose adopted as an oldie and he has one ear completely removed and was fine he was 15 when the ear came off and he used the one eared look to get food from everyone as they felt sorry for him to us he was just Moose

Hoping this isnt cancer but dont worry too much if she does have to have her ears amputated. Our Maisie who we got from CP had to have this done 2 years ago and shes fine. She looks kinda cute ..... like a teddy bear
