I've dealt with several Calicivirus cats that have come to us at CP as well as one owned by a friend. I have to say I've not known any of them  personally to display all the symptoms that can occur. One had a very bad mouth and was also a little sneezy at the same time but not as though you'd really notice. But the one thing in common they all had was acute and recurring mouth issues. 

I'm just suggesting it would be good to know he's not a carrier as Calicivirus would explain some of the issues you are having.

yes i will do.. he doesnt seem to be displaying any of the other symptoms thou sneezy nose resportory prob etc and other than his mouth he seems ok nice coat

lewis had his fang tooth out on oct 22nd so quite a while ago his insurer was healthy pets and i must add i changed him and his sister over to petplan and she had to have a tooth extraction too in october thankfully she was fine infact i couldnt notice she had done anything done  ate fine from day one she is a torty though so she is a tough cookie but they paid her fees but i would stay away from healthy pets

As I think you said in your first post, after a dental cats will find eating quite different......how long since the last op?

If its more than a month ago then sounds like there is still a problem.

hi everyone.. well to answer a few questions i live in plymouth and he was originally seen at the main vet hospital he is now with the 2nd vet practice its a resonable big place. i have insurance but they never paid a penny which was dis heartening as id been paying it for years and never done a claim they said he was only insured for teeth extraction after a accident they even took a month to process the claim and just sent a standard letter saying no so i changed the insureres for him and his sister to petplan but anyway ive paid all the bills myself about 2000 so far. I was thinking about contacting a dental specialist and sending them all the xrays so i may do that as well. its alost like there is something irrating him in his mouth and he trying to get rid of it with his tongue

Just seen the age......11 yrs , so a senior cat and agree with you about no more sedation. Really for any from now on he should be put on IV fluids so as not to damage his kidneys.

Sorry know nothing about the painkiller and its worth doing a search for it online to at least see what the leaflet says and what its normally used for.

I dont like the sound of what I have read and the one thing you didnt tell us, or I am blind, is Lewis age. This is quite important being the number of times he has been sedated.

I thing your first vet did not do a good job and I now know how important this is cos have a cat who has a serious brain infwection which it is suspected was caused by an infection entering his blood stream during a dental.

Its sad that the second vet has not really been of much help and I hope you have insurance.

My next option would be to get one of the vets to refer you to a dental specialist to try and get to the bottom of this properly, you dont say where you live but there are a number of full blown vet hospitals round the country.

Hi Richard, its sounds like poor lewis (and you) have really been through it!! My 3 are all quite young and fortunately haven't had any problems with their teeth (touch wood). Other members have got experience with dentals and also problematic dentals so hopefully someone should be along soon with some advice. You might want to change the title of your thread to mention something about dentals just so its catches peoples attention.

hi i was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice its a long story really back in august my cat 11yr ginger had teeth problems so i toook him to the vet and they did 3 teeth extractions 1 with a feline resorpive lesion anyway at the time he was pawing at the side of his mouth but soon after he came out he seemed to not be any better it awas then realised by the vets they had not removed the roots of the teeth extracted so he went under again to have the roots removed he then improved a bit slowly but then in october he was stopping eating again and was rubbing at his face alot after a few stern words with the vet who told me all his teeth were x rayed to then find out they could only produce x rays for 6 teeth so on the 22nd oct they put him under again x rayed his skull jaw and teeth and found a adnormal tooth with his right fang so i was adivsed it should come out the tooth had eroroded just under the gum line and had a hole of 4mm which the vet told me would have been causing pain.after he developed and infection and i had to hand feed him chicken for a week until they got a antorobe down him and things improved for about a fortnight he lip was twitching when crying and the vet told me it maybe his stitch so when the stitch dissolved he suddenly got worse he was crunching his jaw when eating droping food out of his mouth and struggling to pick food up another thing he is doing is flicking his tongue out where is fang was removed like something is irrating him as well as licking his gum line alot he was doing this alot and again stopped eating for the most part he also seems to be messing with his mouth like he is uncomfortable with something what ever it was he seemed to be getting worse so the vets put him under again and checked they could find nothing wrong but i will add at this time i was pointing them to the left hand side where he was crunching now realising he was prob eating diff aand it is the fang removal or at the very least that area so at this point i fell out with the vet as i requested x rays if nothing could be found knowing i would need them for a 2nd opion and they would be my best tool she did do x rays in the end but of his skull left and right and undrneath not the teeth its self as ive gathered there are 2 types some i would say are xrayed in the mouth capuring 2 or 3 teeth close up and others must be taken 3 or so inches out side his body  so like under his chin and left right of his cheek i am not sure if these would have 100% seen a prob with his fang removal i wouldnt be surpised if they overlooked where his fang was concentrating rather on somewhere else. so at this point i decided i must get a 2nd opion and went to a diff vet with his xrays a few videos of his eating and blood results she said there could be nerve damage but at this point doesnt have any answers i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for complications that can happen after tooth extraction as you can see my baby has been through alot he is otherwise a very healthy cat its his mouth that is the problem i would pay the world for him to be better but im not sure if its going to be possible i do not want him having any more anesetics he has had too many as it is also the vet would like to put him on a painkiller called gabapentine

his kidneys are fine amazingly tested last week urea 8.4 cre 140 all his other bloods are fine
he is 5.65kg and fiv neg and felv neg
i also have the xrays taken so if anyone is in the know i could email them
