Leo passed away today.  I took him to his favourite vet, Anne, and she thought it best as he had lost so much weight, and as she said he had no enjoyment left in life, and it wouldn't be long before he was in pain.

The sparkle had gone out of his eyes and he did look tired. 

He purred right up to the end.

I feel like my heart is breaking.

I miss him so much already.

Leo had the steroid injection Friday evening and I was fearing the worse by Sunday night.  However, he got up early on Monday, ate a little, had a go at the scratch post and started to wash himself.

He's eaten a little and often since then.  Although I know this isn't a cure,  its just giving us some much needed time together, I am so grateful for that.

Hugs to you Annette, as the others have said just enjoy every minute with Leo :)

Our family cat, Sooty, was diagnosed with a tumor behind her eye at the age of 16 and with the help of a couple of steroid injections a year she lived comfortably until she was 18. Not trying to give you faulse hope but hopefully the steriods will make Leo feel more comfortable and give you more precious time together.

Thank you all so much.  It helps when other people know where you're coming from.  At work I'm kinda the "mad cat lady" and not everyone appreciates how much our four legged family members mean to us.

Leo did go to the vet tonight and had a steroid injection and I have some more pills to give him.  If he doesn't buck up over the weekend then the vet said not to give him the pills as they wouldn't be working.

I feel a bit better, but wonder why she didn't recommend them in the first place and I had to ask.

Anyway, I'm not dwelling on that and I'm going to enjoy every minute he's here.

I am sorry to hear this, I have a cat with intestinal lymphoma, she is on steriods to help and it is 9 months sine her diagnosis. If the vet hasn't already suggested it, I would definitely give it a go, although she is the second cat i have had with intestinal lymphoma, my other cat didnt' have nearly as long.

So sorry to hear this  :(  :hug: Is he having any steroids to try and keep things at bay and keep him comfortable? My cat was having steroid injections for another illness, she was seen and examined regularly by the vet but I didn't know she had a tumour until it was time to let her go as the steroids had kept things at bay.

Ultimately the vet is right, you should just love him each and every day that you have together  :hug:

I rescued two wonderful Ragdoll boys back in May, Leo and Vinnie.  Leo has suffered with his health after being neglected by his previous owner for five years. 

From July he seemed to be picking up, until I noticed a week ago he had gone off his food.  I took him to the vets, his blood count is low (should be 25-40 and its only 19), and he's gone from 4.4kg to 3.6kg.  The vet did an xray and found an adominal mass which she says from her 40 years experience is not good.  She doesn't want to open him up, she things its unfair.  I'm to cuddle him and love him while he's still here, but it may not be for long.  His brother, Vinnie, is going to miss him so much.  They do everything together, and Vinnie can often be found washing his brother.  I'm worried Vinnie may go downhill himself if he pines when Leo does pass away.

I don't know why I'm posting, I want someone to tell me its going to get better and a miracle will happen and Leo will be better, but I know I'm just kidding myself.
