Agreed. When your mind allows you to go back to losing a furbabe, it becomes almost raw and fresh again but at the same time there's a chasm of time between when you got to have them with you and the time you haven't. Sending you both hugs, Mark.

OH doesn't seem to have realised so I won't mention it. It will only cause upset. One xmas gift I had planned but never got round to is taking lots of pictures off the PCs that haven't been used for 3 or 4 years and filling an album with prints. As handy as digital photos are, there is nothing like looking at photos in a book.

We miss our baby

It is amazing how much quieter the house seems as she had such a huge personality and was always into everything. It is odd when I open the ironing board up, not having a cat landing on it - the same goes with bleaching kitchen counters, opening the front door, working on the laptop at a table etc etc

Also outside in the garden, she was always standing up against my leg wanting to be picked up

I don't miss her little "liquid gold" gifts though

i haven't looked at this thread and I'm not ready to read through it yet, but I have finally found a nice glass jar in Wilkinsons that the container the ashes came back in will fit. I have been searching all over. I have the plant, pot and soil so will do it over the next few days. The Camellia is beginning to flower. I have kept it indoors in the oriel window so it has had plenty of light but I'm sure it will need planting very soon.

I looked through my purse the other day and found a checklist of things I wanted to ask the vet when I last took Jack; I put it back in my purse. My partner asked why I'd done that and I said it still upset me a lot to see it in there, but at some point it would hurt less and then I'd know I was progressing through the grieving stages. It's an odd way to do things, I know.

I'm glad Dennis is OK and you don't feel too bad. I think you should've interrupted the garden centre assistants; cheeky so and so's ignoring you.

Thanks. I looked in the garden centre but couldn't see anything. I went to the indoor bit to ask but the 3 members of staff were in deep conversation about football or something. I waited a while and gave up and left. We have plenty of other garden centres here. I will go again on Saturday. Luckily OH isn't fazed and said he is glad she is back with us.

I had to go through plastic boxes of stuff today - there were plenty of papers etc that still had reminders of Willow on them

there are dwarf willows, Mark, which will do very well in a decent sized pot

and are tough enough to be planted now, as long as you make sure they get lots of water, especially if the compost/soil is frozen

It was mixed emotions. I made a pathetic joke about the container looking like Yardley talc and that I could give it to my mum for xmas. Lynn, the practice manager said she had to collect her dad's ashes - and even worse, her mum knocked them off the mantelpiece

- she didn't want to use the hoover so used a dustpan and brush

I think that's a lovely idea

Be prepared for mixed emotions when you collect the ashes - its lovely to bring them home, but it all seems so final, even though we know they're gone. I thought I was going to be OK when I collected Max, but I was in absolute pieces sat in the car for 10 minutes balling my eyes out

I think I am going to pick her ashes up today. I'm not sure exactly what we are doing yet as OH seems to change the subject when I talk about it. I brought the subject up this morning but OH has an important meeting today so I didn't want to push the issue. There is no real rush. I think we will get a Willow plant/bush - We have a garden centre at college so I will see what they have there tomorrow. I am guessing a young plant/shrub couldn't be planted outside yet?

I think OH is beginning to come to terms as he said we can get a runner for the hallway - the previous 3 were all peed on repeatedly and had to be thrown.

The vets have just phoned. Willow's ashes are ready to collect. I will have to wait until next week to collect them as I have exams.
