lots better today she has been out and had a wonder but she does now know her limit the weight loss continues (and will have to for a while yet) hmmmm! spondylitus  does sound about right she has never had a scan or ex-ray of that area so it could well be that although the first vet that saw her when it first started said he might have slipped her disc back in anyway she is responding well to the drugs and I think the weight loss helps.

Dont know if its of any help but old Buster has Spondylitus of the spine and has monthly injections of Cartrophen which works miracles.
He had years of depo med jabs prior to this which I dont recommend.

animals dont usually suffer slipped discs in the same way as humans do, really standing on the two legs aint really great for our spines

They can get a few probs with their spines such as arthritis etc but also spondylosis which is basically sharp boney calcifications the grow between the vertebra and can dig in or put pressure on the spinal colum and is usually quite painful.

small dose preds isnt anything to be overly worried about when there is a need for it.

we have enough until after christmas and will have to get some more,he says she can be on them permanently but only small doses(half a tab evey other or third day or even less if she has improved enough).

how long did he say she would be on prednisalone ?  this is also used for feline arthritis but that is usually only for a short treatment period

squeak our head honcho has had trouble with her disc before (about 2 years ago) but as she has got old and maybe a bit weightier its reared it head again.
she has been to the vet (an Australian guy very nice and a good vet and did'nt keep on about the ashes )and had a steroid jab and after another bout of it is now on steroid tabs(prednisalone) which we mix with some nourish-em and she eats it OK.
Squeak has lost a good deal of weight she is on Royal canin light and the others have it too,she also seems to know exactly when to rest up and is coping fairly well with the whole thing (better than us I'm afraid).

QUESTION
does anyone else have a cat with the same problem and on the same steroid?
and the vet spoke about this steroid maybe shortening her life?
