I got one last week, it is good but Belle is the only one of mine that likes it. Meeko goes mad and tries to bite me when I go near him with it  :-:

Actually i use one of these on both my siamese and they love it.. Its great and their coats have a lovely shine to it. But you do have to be careful not to make them bald and only once every so often. Not over do it...!

Thanks for that Gillian - it's reassuring to know that it wasn't just me who was heavy handed with it!

I think it'd be good for robust cat with lots of fur, but I think that most cats are fine with just a normal grooming routine

I tried this before and it does work really well, but I ended up making Katie a little bit bald on her back end  :innocent: I found it quite easy to overgroom her

Yep, can easily strip too much fur out! I also found it heavy and cumbersome to hold, and not very gentle on thin cats with protruding bones.

I tried this before and it does work really well, but I ended up making Katie a little bit bald on her back end  :innocent: I found it quite easy to overgroom her as she loves it so much, but it did reduce the amount of fur she shed. I didn't end up keeping it (the great thing about QVC is the fact that you have a 30 day money back guarantee if you don't like something), and use a more 'normal' brush for her now. I felt so bad when I did it, but it grew back fine *is ashamed*!

Have just bought one off an american seller on Ebay. Nice and cheap! ($22.99 and $9 postage, so about £15?)

Will let you know how it goes, Mango especially needs it, you could knit a blanket from the fur off the back of the sofa  :innocent: and Chutney will just love it.

Lisa you could PM Gillian and see if she thinks it would be suitable for Leos coat  ;D
Iv looked at similar products and they said "only for shedding breeds -  consult your veterinarian"  :scared:
All my cats shed their coats so wasnt sure why they specified that!

i have one and cannot praise it enough. I use it on siamese that have short hair. Little and often  thats what is needed. They rather enjoy it as well.

You can buy them in the Cat Chat shop.

I tried one on my cats cos someone loaned me one and although it worked OK with the birmans it was totallu usless with Misa cos his coat id so thick and long that it could reach the places that it needed.

I am not sure that it would be good for Leo and a variated length comb much better I think.

I got mine from qvc I think it is www.qvcuk.com it was about £24

actually here is the blurb which explains it a bit better

Search Results: furminator
Furminator Professional Pet Brush with 4.5cm Comb

QVC Price £23.76
UK P&P £3.45
Pamper your pet as you'd pamper yourself! The fuminator pet brush eliminates excess hair, including undercoat, from your pet. Suitable for both dogs and cats, the brush is designed with a blade that removes loose hair, without cutting or damaging your pet's coat. For use on shedding pets for routine grooming, it leaves only the shiny and healthy portion of the fur's topcoat.

its just a comb but has some kind of blade in the comb that takes out the undercoat, I can get a fair bit out of star but she isn't a huge combing fan so I've never made her bald or anything!

As far as I can tell its not like clippers that cut the hair is it ? (Knowing my luck I would do it & leo would have no hair left !)

I can't click on the tabs on the link as work has blocked them.. so no idea how it works ?
