Title: OFFERED : Two Siamese Cats aged 13 years
Post by: Sam (Fussy_Furball) on November 23, 2006, 14:23:38 PM
Saw this on chesterfield free ads.  I have contacted the lady and the cats are being remhomed on behalf of someone who has been rehomed themselves.

Can anyone help these poor babies get a new home before Xmas:

OFFERED : Two Siamese Cats aged 13 years

Two domesticated Sisters who need to remain together. Have been cared for well and spayed. They are house cats and curl up together like Yin and Yang. One is a large gray cat weighing One Stone and the other is a small timid jet black cat half the weight. One is called Maddy and the other is Mena. Both are loving and are very affectionate.

Is she lives in Derbushire then perhaps you could advise her to ring the main Cats Protection Derby Shelter 01332 824950 and put the cats on the list of those waiting to come in. Also to check on the net for Breed rescues.

They sound odd colours for Siamese.

Thats exactly what I thought! But nothing suprises me. We have a cat in our care at the mo, who is suppose to be half burmese and half ragdoll. Yet he is black!! Still he is a very vocal boy. I had a call a while ago from someone who had a bengal she wanted to rehome, when I asked what colour and about stripes and spots, she told me he was ginger all over!  Amazes me the adverts in the paper that say 1/3 Siamese and have the gaul to charge over £100 for a kitten.  Still what do you say!

Isnt a black Siamese a havana or oriental SH or something?  Poor babies, has anyone asked them to contact Siamese Rescue they do a brill job.

One is a large gray cat weighing One Stone

That sounds about as far away from a siamese cat as you can get!

Hope they get a good home soon whatever they are.

The woman who has these two cats has just rung me, apparently someone has 8 cats and needed someone to care for them for a while, 2 have now been with the person who called me for 12 weeks but she said she cannot keep them any longer as she has children (don't say a word). I remember now a while ago she phone me and I gave her the number of the Main Derby shelter and to contact a Siamese rescue, of course they are still not on any  list so now there will be hundreds more in front.
She said they are Siamese and were from a breeder.

She said they are Siamese and were from a breeder.

Sounds obvious I know, but has she tried to contact the breeder?  I know that after 13 years it's very possible s/he will have moved but not necessarily.  The breeders details will be on the registration documents.

I'm still not convinced that a large grey cat could possible be a siamese!!

I have no idea, she obviously did not listen to what I had to say last time she rang.

I actually emailed this lady because these cats sounded so lovely. The responses I got sounded very much like she genuinely wants to help, but already has her own pets that aren't particularly happy with the situation.(Children weren't mentioned to me.) I really hope they find somewhere, they sound like sweet old girls.

It may not be the actual person who has the cats you mailad as she told me she did not have the internet when I asked  her. so I advised her to ask a friend who had to look for Siamese rescues. Also I would say that we may all seem nice on here yet in reality we don't know someone at all. I know someone who posted on a message board (not this one) and everyone thought she/he was very nice, well I knew that person and they certainly were not what they portrayed to be. I could not believe the lies they posted.

Hi all,

I'm sorry. I can't be much help on this matter. I can only post the following links which may bring some hope or clarity but I suspect that others have already suggested this. I am the world's worst expert on breeds but I have to join others in being sceptical bearing in mind the colour. Still these guys need help.

http://www.siameserescue.org.uk/

http://www.oldstylesiamese.co.uk/

They may be able to help even if it is only with identification. Do you know the breeder? If they breed Siamese seriously paying attention to needs and breeding society advice they will be registered with a  bredding club. I'd like to be proved wrong but I won't hold my breath.

Ok, an update on this situation. I emailed the lady and she still has these two, but the cats are on a few waiting lists. If anyone can help I'm sure she'd be grateful.

just thought I wouls pop on here & ask people not to be so quick on asking for the nameing & shameing, on many of these situations because of the legal status the information cannot be given (for those you remember my warning on CC) just a reminder there are some who are not what they seem as Ela has said

Further to recent correspondence with the lady who has these two, she now believes them to be a cross between the burmese and siamese breeds. I think they're gorgeous and if there was any way I could give them a home, I would! (Space, overcrowding and finances prohibit it, though!)

I have to say that my Casper does not have the stomach of an oriental! I have always been careful not to let any of my cats and rabbits become overweight, but Casper is a first. When I took him to the vets for his boosters, our vet laughed when he saw Casper's jelly belly. He said as things are he is ok to leave, but if he puts anymore on he will have to go on  a diet. It's not that we overfeed him. He gets into cupboards and drags the sachets of food out, rips them open and eats them. He's the same with bread. He loves it. It's got to the point where we have to hide it.

Hi I've just joined. How is everyone? I'm quite intrigued by these kitties if someone can email me the info and photo's on them please. I have no  real idea how this forum works so please forgive any mistakes until I'm used to things and have found my way around.

We'd like another cat or 2 but as we already have a male cat, 2 german shepherds & kids we'd need to make sure the new arrival/s will be happy here.

These 2 girls sound a little old to fit in if it's not what thy are used to but if they are happy with dogs and kids i'd like to know more.

I'm sure one of you will be able to get my email address if it doesn't already show & we'd love some pics. If not do you know of any others needing homes? I live East of birmingham but my partner lives in somerset so we travel alot. Anywhere along the m5 or somerst/dorset area or close midlands is ok for the right puss.

hope I haven't mad a complete plonker of myself
 x x

Hi and welcome to Purrs Maisey,

The only picture we have of these two is the one on the thread .... if you click on the picture it will enlarge it.  As you can see these two girls are more like burmese than siamese.

Ok after reading back and forth 5 times the piccy is now there. They are cute, not at all what I was looking for but I'll see what I can do and how close they are.

Do you know if they are used to kids and dogs?

What about home check or donation?

Thanks

That's the lady that is currently caring for these two old timers! TBH, I've emailed her a couple of times and don't remember her ever mentioning a dog, so I'm not sure how great they'd be in an environment that they'd have to share with them!

Best to email her directly with any questions, though. You never know.

I think they're lovely, but you said they aren't really what you're looking for. Can I ask what that is so people have an idea? :)

I'll email her in the morning when I hav time to give her some information about here as she knows the cats best and will know whether they will fit in here or not.

Thanks for all your help

Wondering whether anything has happened with these two; I think they're absolute stunners. The lady who has them however said "they aren't endearing themselves to her." She didn't mention bad behaviour, from what I can tell what she meant is despite caring for them for so long she doesn't real feel any affection for them.

Anyone got a loving home for two lovely looking old girls?

 I know, Sam, it's fine!

They are on four separate waiting lists for rescues. This is the most recent email:

Unfortunately I have not had any luck at all and they
are on four cat protection sites so I am beginning to
feel that no one is interested. I am asking at some
Nursing Homes as I think it would be lovely for the
old people but they have not got back either probably
as its a Health & Safety issue.
I never thought it would be so difficult to rehouse
them. Will keep on trying.

I just cannot believe it the carer of these cats has just rung me about these cats again. Months ago I advised her to ring the Derby shelter and put them on the list of cats waiting to come on. Because they had 100 on their list she didn't, had she done so they would have been in care many weeks ago. 100 on a waiting list is nothing to a shelter that has 200 cats at a time and get people going round every day.

I asked her to also put them on a breed rescue but she didn't want to as she said they are too far. If it means a good home to me distance should not be an issue especially as you are desperate to rehome.

I have offered to put pics of the cats on my site, she has now said they are Tonkinese.

Title: Re: OFFERED : Two Siamese Cats aged 13 years
Post by: Millys Mum on February 05, 2007, 15:19:58 PM
she has now said they are Tonkinese.

Is she trying to make them sound more attractive? I dont know much about oriental breeds but they dont look like a tonk to me

She sounds like the type who ignores your advice and then finally ends up leaving them on the doorstep  >:(

I don't think they are are Tonks ... Tonks are quite small and delicate littel things. In my opinion they are Burmese's .... not that it really matters what breed they are.  Surely if you are desparate to rehome they are simply "Cats needing a home"

Quite right they are, but if she does not put them on waiting lists they won't find a home. I know for sure had she had rung the Derby shelter when I advised her to months ago they would have been taken in by now.
