Fingers crossed - I am quite strict with collars, they just get mealtimes and about an hour supervised, as I work full time, and wouldn't want them to do anything to them. I sometimes relent and let them have the collar off after 4-5 days, when there is less danger if they do pull the stitches out.

The first few days are most important while things inside bind. My vets use glue so no collars needed!

You dont want a hole opening over the weekend, makes it expensive to go out of hours for staples!

Just give her supervised time and take it from there.

To be honest i have never used one and have had 8 female cats spayed !

Think you have to see what she is like with her stitches, if she tends to leave them alone then i would take the collar off

i had to keep my makosi`s lamp shade collar on for the whole ten days as when ever i took it off for her to eat she tried to have a go at her stitches

try taking it off each meal time and see what shes like if not just take it off so she can eat and maybe give her an hours supervised time without it each day just so she can have a little break from it .

My baby has been spayed today - bless her.

She aint getting on with the lampshade though - she keeps walking into everything

and can't get to her hiding places

.

What are peeps views on keeping the lampshade on?? The vet advised 10 days!

It's a shame that a lot of vets still seem to be in the dark ages about these things either saying to wait until after the first 'season' or to wait until they are 6 months old.

Dogs are done a while after the first season but cats before if possible.

Had I have been more informed from my vets i would probably have had her done earlier. But what can i do - he said to do it after her first season (I thought that was the rule) - i can only go by the advise given. I will def do it differently next time

She is booked in for Wed so will hopefully get a decent nights sleep. I look like a total Zombie today

Oh yes, the joys of a female in season!! One of the reasons I advocate early spay and neuter, to help prevent these accidents happening.

The little darling managed to escape this afternoon whilst i was in the process of hanging my washing out - as you do; and managed to get on top of the neighbours shed. I literarally turned my back for a min. The little bleep was fast.

She is spraying because she is in heat!! She shouldn't have actually had any outdoor access till she had been spayed though, to make sure she couldn't have any contact with tom cats. Good luck with her appointment for next week, and I would seriously consider changing vets.

Am def keeping her in. The tom is hanging about - again. She is making a hell of noise though. And is spraying all over the house - even on my bed!!!!

Oooo I didn't mean that she should still let the kitten out btw I just meant that if the worst happened and she had been caught by that male when she escaped earlier she can still be spayed. I was writing the post in a hurry and didn't make myself very clear

OH NO

My neighbour saw my kitten out earlier on top of her shed and she said she had company!! I hope he didn't her!!! Is there such a thing as the morning after pill for cats????

Batten down the hatches! They are very determined when in heat, she certainly wont be chilling in the garden, over the fence and off with the first tom in sight

Its terrible that vets these days are still giving advice like that

Bloody terrible advice CHANGE YOUR VET !!

Make sure you keep all windows and doors closed until she has been done - a male cat will try and get in through the tinest of gaps to get at her.

She should only be in season for a week or so.
It is possible to have her done while still in season although some vets dont like to do this

Bad advice I would say, even one season increases the chance by about 10% of mammary tumors later in life.

Well what a night!

By babe has been up and down all night whaling + cats in my garden howling - and also weeing on my bloody floor - she has a litter tray and has never ever done this. She has always been good and used the tray.

Being a new cat owner i take it that it means she is coming into her first season? I asked my vet for advice when i took her for her check up a month ago and he just said to me 'You'll know when it happens' and not to get her done until after the end of her first - now what sort of advice is that? I had no idea what he meant until now - up all night whaling, weeing everywhere and also let her out in the garden and she is spraying everywhere too! I take it its all part of the process?
How long can this last? I am booked to get the spayed next week so hopefully this won't affect the process anyway?

I have had to keep her in today as there are cats hanging about all over the place and don't want to risk it - poor baby just wants to be chilling the garden on this lovely day - well i hope that's all she wants anyway!! :-) But is driving me potty bless her.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.
