Just caught up with this. Clapton has never had to fast for blood tests.

Glad the results are good  ;D - Clapton's get better every time and he is now borderline normal so hopefully the same for Dinah  :Luv2:

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Well, her results came back early - her kidney function has really improved which is great news  :Luv2:

It looks like the Fortekor is working well for her...fingers crossed she keeps ticking over.

Super news  :)  Tiggy's results went down at virtually every single test result whilst she was on Fortekor too  :)

Thanks all, Dinah was very well behaved this morning - we get the results tomorrow.

Re:fasting, the vet says it has no bearing at all on the kidney function test, but depending on what that the results show he may want to run some other tests which are affected by fasting, so he does it as a precaution.
Overall he seems pleased with her though.

For a cat who doesn't usually make much fuss about food Dinah certainly noticed the abscence of breakfast

Swamp's had umpteen blood tests done for liver and kidney function and has had to fast from about 10pm the night before each time. It's so that the lab readings are not skewed by fat in his blood (or something like that) - bit like when we have the terrifying cholesterol test done  :evillaugh:
the morning's the worst bit, when they get up and there's no brekker until after the test. The earliest my vet does bloods is 8.45am, which is 2 hours after normal Breakfast One.....
good luck with the tests.

My vet usually says to fast before blood tests in case they have to be sedated for the blood to be taken.

Snowy's tests didnt include thyroid, but she always had to be prestarved - while she only had a liver condition, she did have her kidneys checked at the same time. I also seem to remember one blood test where I was asked if they were, as there were two boxes on the form (I have ones done that are sent to the lab, as they cover more than the vets test), one for pre-starved, and one for not.

I had to fast Jaffa before his blood tests.  I may be remembering wrong, but I thought it was the thyroid test specifically that they need to fast for?  Is Diinah having a full senior blood panel?  If so, thyroid would probably be included.

Hope it goes well - I always had to fast Snowy for her liver tests, but I remember Elaine saying she had never been told to do it for Winston. I have also had to do it for some of the annual bloods, I need to check tomorrow if I have to do it for Mol's, as I Can't remember!!

Can only go on my own experiences with Tiggy but I was never told to fast her - she had a blood test a minimum of every 3 months for several years.

Dinah has to go for blood tests for her kidney function tomorrow - the vets have said not to let her eat from 9pm tonight.
Last time she was tested they didn't say this, I will ask tomorrow, but does anyone know if this is normal for kidney tests?
