I had to practice too....and lets see if it works... here is my baby this morning...first time she climbed her tree properly...had a visit from the vet last night....cut her claws I did!!! Lynn you'd be proud of me LOL

Anyway, Lexy is 500g overweight ?:( ?so her food is being reduced and she has to exercise more...ergo my encouragement of using the tree...I don't think she gets it...do you? LOL

Hi Kitty,

lexy is gorgeous as ever.

If you don't mind me asking how much does Lexy weigh?

I think Nina is overweight, she was 3.5kg when we got her and i think she must be between 4-5kg now.

I have taken the plunge and paid out for Hills Science light food (wasn't too bad as you got a free toy when i ordered online) and am trying to exercise her more. Problem is there is no moving her from in front of the fire!

Well, the vet is a home visit vet only. She does surgeries through a local surgery, but her business is visiting at home. Consultation fee is lower than most and you pay for the travel time. She lives local so not to bad and she will see you right up until after 7pm which was what happened last night.

Lexy just needed a check up after her surgeries.

As for her weight..well she's 4.66 kgs ... she was 4.17 kgs in April so she's put on 10% of her body weight in 8 months. So not good. Not helped that she's been recovering from what was essentially reconstructive surgery to her knees so exercise is important...her belly is so floppy ( see avatar pic) :) but not good for her so we're reducing her food.

Emms Lexy is on Hills Oral Care dry and I have her on the Purina Gourmet Solitaire (she has that once every 3 days) its a small tin, and I reduce her dry food by 10g when I give her the wet food. Vet wants me to reduce the dry food by another 10gs normally and only give the wet food as a treat :(  must be done, the extra weight on her knees won't be good for her in later life.

Might be worth using fliker or photobucket (to save on the webspace here).

Hi Kittybabe,
what surgery had been done on Lexy.  I'm asking because my Buddie had a cruxiate ligament repair in July 2005 and up until yesterday morning it was all fine.  Then he started limping again.  The vet thinks that the plastic ligament bit is still attached where it should be and that the limping may have to do with a bout of arthritis.  He is now on 3 daily doses of Glucosamine (Seraquin) and a weekly injection (4 altogether) of Cartophen.  The last one is an antiinflammatory and also helps to keep the cartilege healthy.  He is also on 4 weeks house arrest.  I just find it very strange that the arthritis would come on from him going out at 7am and coming back limping.  I actually think that he jumped off somewhere and may have knocked his knee.

I too have to watch Buddie's weight.  He is about 6kg but he is a very large cat and despite the weight very slim.  He only eats wet food, which iI think helps with keeping the weight down.  My other too are both over weight and they prefer top eat dry.  I have them both now on Hills r/d.
Sorry, just noticed that this isn't really to do with the initial topic.  Sorry.

Post by: Kittybabe (Ruth) on November 16, 2006, 13:02:46 PM
Chris as per CC, very often we all veered off the original topic ;)

Anyway, Lexy dislocated one knee when she fell from a chair in June. She slipped and landed on her side. We discovered that it wasn't just a case of letting it heal normally, she needed to tighten the ligaments. Her left leg then gave out on the weight she ws putting on it to compensate for the injury on her right knee. So she had to have two surgeries to tighten both sets of ligaments on her hind knees.  She's still recoverying even though she gets into everything and climbs anything, but she sleeps most of theday I am out at work and all her toys get boring. SHe's not an outside cat, she came to me with a fear of the outdoors so I've left it to her to tell me when she's ready.

Honestly in this weather I doubt I can get her away from radiators!

My vet was pretty serious about this. She said if there had been no surgeries we could worry less about the weight as she is an indoor cat. But, with the surgeries her weight is serious so I have to get her down.

The oral care food is great but she also has some tartar build up on the back teeth which the vet wants the oral care to to deal with. In 3 months if not sorted she will have to have clean...oh well.

:)

Post by: chrisleitz on November 16, 2006, 13:15:06 PM
Kittybabe, I think the Oral care has quite a high fat content (I may be wrong but that's what the vet nurse told me).
What about mixing the Hills Oral Care with some light food like James Wellbeloved light or Hills r/d.  That way you could combat both 'evils'.

I have my 2 fatties Pepper and Samson on 25 grm Hills r/d mixed with Hills Oral each in the morning and the same in the evening.
Title: Re: testing how to do photos.
Post by: Kittybabe (Ruth) on November 16, 2006, 13:20:45 PM
I think that may work Chris. I told the vet last night that when she was only on the dry food at 60g a day, I moved her down to 50g a day after I noticed she was heavier. And she still put on weight (with not being as mobile as before).

I want her to be mobile enough that she can want to jump around normally without having the added weight.
Title: Re: testing how to do photos.
Post by: CurlyCatz on November 16, 2006, 13:48:11 PM
chris the mixing is a very good idea esp when its only a small weight loss thats needed and that way you reduce the kcals & get clean teeth. :)

Oooo Zeb you are gorgeous  :-*

I put how to put up piccies in the help section now  ;)

The file size limits will be same as cc until we increase our server size.

They gotta be no bigger than 400 x 400 and no more than 30kb.
You can have 2 pics in each post.
Gotta do this for now cause of server space
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Easy way to use the glow, move bits is to highlight the words typed in post box you want in the effects then click the effect you want.

Title: Re: testing how to do photos.

Right Ela.

Click the Reply button which is at the top of the thread on the right-hand side.

Click Additional Options which is below the text box, if it appears...

then click Browse next to the box where it says Attach and bob's yer uncle.

But we can only post quite small photos so you might need to shrink them using Microsoft Picture Manager or whatever first.

Yell if you are still stuck and I will try and help more.

Post by: Beccles on November 16, 2006, 18:49:42 PM
Ela it might be that the photo you are trying to post is too big or the wrong sort. It needs to be saved as a JPEG (you can change what sort it is by opening it in Paint and then going 'save as', and it needs to be smaller than approx. 300x400 pixels, which I find it easiest to change in microsoft Picture Manager.

And ta very much Andrew :D

b) the picture to be saved in JPEG format (open it in Paint and do Save As...)
c) to click on the Reply button up there on the right
d) to click on Browse and find your photo.
