Foofoo wheezes quite a lot and isn't an extreme persian.  However, the temp would worry me too and I think you're right in investigating it further.

Fabian has been in and out of the vets since November after a dramatic weight loss.  He has had blood test after blood test, xrays, urine tests........  and still the vet had no idea what was going on.  Eventually they referred him to the Small Animal Hospital and he went to see the specialist vet in March.  All of his tests have been repeated and extra ones too.  I am still awaiting the final results due to the bloody courier losing his blood sample!

The reason I've mentioned this is is because I wish I had have requested a referral sooner.  Is Mango insured because its pretty expensive - Fabes visit there came to £1300!

Perhaps its time your vet called a specialist and either take their advice or even better refer Mango to them.

do they weeze sometimes gillian even if there just laid there ( through the nose )

Yes, some of them do. Lucy in particular does, she's got really tiny nostrils and a very flat face. Funnily enough she's not one of the ones that coughs though, but she does weeze, even when she's not active. I see what you mean about the secondary infection, that could cause a high temp - I wonder what virus/s your vet tested for - do you know? Coz both calici and herpes viruses could lead to secondary infections - but not sure if asthma does.

[ I know someone whose Persian was extremely snuffly for a couple of months and it turned out to be a wide blade of grass that had gone up her nose although it wasn't discovered until she was under a general but that seems unlikely for a whole year.

That just happened recently with my new boy Jasper! - he was a bit snuffly for a couple of days, then he did this great big sneeze - and out popped a blade of grass from his nose!

i did ask gillian, if persians do this on exercise due to there small airways and he said they do but not enough to make them weezy and later have a temp

gillian mango only has to run around for a few seconds before she starts snorting and sticking her neck ou to improve her airways , then she lays down  :( when i know she wants to play . The sound is like when you have a really really bad stuffed up nose and you try to blow it or breath through it

Yes, its strange about the temperature though isnt it? Is that normal with something like asthma for inistance? (don't really know much about asthma). A couple of mine having coughing fits and stretch their neck out like you are describing, but they seem ok otherwise.

i was with anouther vet when this prob started and was not happy with them , they also said allergy so when i went to the vet were at now and he said the same thing i thought it must be me , after all im not a vet
he has been a good vet in the past with moomin and mango and my sisters dog , i have had a word and am going to give him the benefit of the dout and still take her on mon i really need to get her spayed she is calling every 3 wk and it keeps us up at night and it is driving her mad also im worried that constant calling might be contributing to her snorting and not helping her emotional helth
he wouldnt spay her as he wanted to get to the bottom of her weezing 1st and she was underweight  , but it has dragged on too long now and when she got out for a few seconds the other day then that was it.
thanks all for your advice i will let you know how we get on on mon

I would be changing vet now, not taking her there for the spay and x-rays, they have had a chance to do something and haven't. Have you spoken to the breeder about this, in case it is something hereditary? I am surprised they haven't spayed her yet, poor thing. Good luck

Sasha Glad your vet has is doing the spaying now can't understand why he said no before. I think you have neen great at pushing him to do more. It must be very worrying seeing little mango like that and very frustrating with your vet that things arn't getting better. I felt the same way with Rio when he was ickle kitten and was not happy with my vet. It really did make such a diff taking him for a second opinion and the new vet had Riowassle all  better within two days after almost 4 weeks of the old vet trying differnet things for his running bum.

It's good he is doing an xray soon and i hope it will shead light on why she is weezing alot.

rosella every 6 wk is not an exageration thankyou

No offence intended  :(.  I'm sorry, I have no experience of Persians and feel so sorry for Mango. I know someone whose Persian was extremely snuffly for a couple of months and it turned out to be a wide blade of grass that had gone up her nose although it wasn't discovered until she was under a general but that seems unlikely for a whole year.

I wouldn't be using the same vet if my visits had been so frequent over such a long time.  I would get a second opinion but you are better placed to decide about going ahead with spaying and xray. Perhaps you have had consultations with different vets at the same practice and feel you have therefore already effectively had a second opinion?

Billy sends healing head rubs to Mango. Hope you are able to get to the bottom of this soon.

rosella every 6 wk is not an exageration thankyou

mango has been like this for approx 1 yr she is 19 month old , she snorts i dont hear the weezing but when i take her to the vet he says she is wheezing when he listens to her chest , i have found if i leave her a few days before taking her to the vets for steriod injec  then she develops a temp and has to have antibiotics and painkiller for temp

the vet has been sure that as she gets it around every 6 wk then the long acting steriod is working with breathing untill it runs out and then it returns which is why he has been thinking it was a allergy or astma
after doing swab for virus which was negative he was going to put her stright on inhaler instead of using steriod injec all the time  but i said i wanted a allergy blood test to make sure she was getting the right diagnosis and treatment  , after that was neg our only way to go now is to explore further

i did ask gillian, if persians do this on exercise due to there small airways and he said they do but not enough to make them weezy and later have a temp

im going to take her on mon , i have told the vet that i want somthing doing now and that i am not happy at the moment and he was quite upset and concerned and said that it has been a process of illimination with the differnt steriods
if im no further along on mon i will seek further help in the way of anouther opinion

gillian mango only has to run around for a few seconds before she starts snorting and sticking her neck ou to improve her airways , then she lays down  :( when i know she wants to play . The sound is like when you have a really really bad stuffed up nose and you try to blow it or breath through it

i have been taking mango my persian female 19 month to the vets every 6 wk for 1 yr now with snorting when she plays and wheezing and temp on occation
the vet has given steriod inj and antibiotic thinking it might be a allergy or asthma

i asked the vet today on the phone what the next step is and he said that he could try her on antiviral drugs to see if it helps

Do the steroids and abx have any effect, does she stop wheezing while on them? If the tests for allergy and virus have come back negative, why does your vet want to start anti-viral drugs?

Mind you,  many persians wheeze and snort when they have been playing/running - mine do. The shape of their faces means the nose is distorted and often the nostrils are tiny making breathing difficult.

I would have thought that x rays would have been near the top of his list  :-:
Id go ahead with Monday and see what the outcome is and then get a second opinion if nothing is found.

Sounds to me like a 2nd opinion (or a total change of vet) might be a good idea.  Has your vet actually come up with any possible causes for her snorting and wheezing?  If he doesn't have any more idea after a year than he had at the start then I'd say it's time for a new vet or a specialist.  I know some symptoms can be vague but it doesn't sound like your vet is doing much to try and get to the bottom of it.

You have to ask yourself, do you trust your vet? If you are unable to answer "yes", you need  a second opinion. 18 months is a long time. Not sure sure if every 6 weeks is a slight exaggeration (forgive me) but if not an exaggeration, that would be too many times for me without trying another vet practice, preferably one that has been recommended.

i dont know what you think but i said NO i am sick of going to the vets all the time and i am sick of not knowing what is wrong with my cat
i have asked for well over 7 month to get her spayed and he kept saying wait for the next results

anyway i have told him that i want her spaying and while she is under i want xrays of her chest he said that sounded like a good next step
but why didnt he suggest it am i doing the right thing( not spaying i know i am right about that i meen the xray )
he has booked her in for mon morn
