Title: Appeal for a little Sausage.....
Post by: JackSpratt on July 30, 2013, 15:33:52 PM
Posting this after being in contact with a young lady caring for a little female cat who visits her dubbed Sausage.

Sadly, although the lady is supplying food for Sausage, she and her partner can't stretch to ensuring the little one is spayed and chipped. They're actually struggling to care for Sausage as well as the animals they have on the household income so I'm trying to get funds sent directly to their local vets to ensure that when Sausage is found a permanent new home, she'll be chipped and spayed for definite.

This is a private appeal in no way endorsed by Purrs in our Hearts. It is literally a request for assistance for a little lady who is needing a proper new start.

:)

I was quoted at £65 in total - including chip, pre and post op checks and the actual op. I guess that's pretty good, really.

I'd like to contribute what do I do

That's ace, Dawn. :)

I'm going to call the vets and confirm they're alright with this first. But I thought I'd contact them and give the lady's address and Sausages name then people could just call in and send card payments directly to the vet for what they can afford.

That's one option. The other is it comes via Paypal to me and I transfer the sum total when it's raised. I'd prefer it to go to the vets directly, but it may be hard to keep track of what's been donated.

Responded to their email, they're very quick so they should be able to confirm if they can set up a "Sausage account" and let me know when the total is met. :)

Ahh she's lovely  :Luv:
Where about's is she hun?  How old is she? Have they tried paper collar /posters etc Are there any plans to rehome her or can a local rescues take her?  Where is she living outside?
Just a bit worried if they can't afford to feed her that rescue would be better for her? They would ensure she goes to the right home too.

If they are on low income they can get spay vouchers from CP?

while it doesn't sound ideal it worries me she is not spayed

If they are on a low Income CP would help with a neutering voucher and may even be able to take her in so she can go to a home as the bit about struggling to feed her makes me a tad worried what about injections, flea treatments worming etc, its not just the case of feeding as well all know how expensive that can be and I know more than most on the food and vet bill front

The vet if part of the CP scheme and explaining the circumstances should do it at the CP voucher rate - I know I get my ferals done at that rate when we are trapping and also get discount on the wormers, injections and worming treatments may be worth asking if they would do it at cost due to the circumstances

Tan - she's roughly a year old. They've checked for a chip and asked around to no avail. I've agreed to help with the rehoming process if I possibly can for the exact reason you're concerned, because I'm not sure they'd think to do any real checks.

Dawn - ditto. I think first and foremost, ensuring a cat living on the street is spayed while a long term solution is found; otherwise potentially it could become finding a long term solution for even more cats.

Liz - low income household, but not in receipt of benefits so most locally run CP's won't help with spay costs unfortunately. I did explain the situation to the vet and that's the price they gave me, so maybe they don't participate in such schemes.

I'm not sure what you're implying by "fundraising on Facebook for other causes." If you mean the Animal Welfare Fundraising Auction that's an ongoing page to try and help as many organisations as possible. This little girl is on a pets for sale page and I was concerned she was potentially unspayed and free roaming. She's not under any rescue, someone is doing the best they can to help her, so I'm trying to help them.

Tan, if this thread is causing a problem in some way just move it to the Staff Room. :)

I have amended my post and supposed implications JS but as you say the fund raising page is there perhaps she could be a special appeal it does have a wider audience and then the funds could be raised faster

Try CP head office and there is always the PDSA and there will be help somewhere CP head office may help with a voucher they are ramming home the message of be inundated with kittens so always worth a try and also try some other branches of CP they do help out of their own areas in special cases - it had been done through here before

Where is sausage? CHAT are doing free neutering and chip at the moment for cats. No good if you are on the other side of the country though. They do say on their website they will always help get a cat neutered. So might be worth contacting as they will tell you where to get voucher etc.

Celia Hammond? She's nowhere near sadly, she's in Derby.

An old schoolfriend is CC'ing half the needed funds as soon as I pass on the vet details tomorrow so Sausage is well on her way to ensuring she is spayed and chipped. Then we just need to network to find her a permanent home. (Or rescue space.)

please let me know, I hate to think of her not being spayed and probably already well on the way to kittens

Messaged you the vet details, Dawn. :) They're expecting people to call and donate to the Sausage Fund. Yes, we think it sounds funny too.... :evillaugh: )

So it seems Little Miss Sausage can get her spay done within the next week. I've agreed to be the person named on the ID documentation after the feeder showed massive reluctance to do that. :-:

I'm rather concerned because it gives me a month to find a good home or safe rescue space, so if people want to spread the word about this little corker, please do! :)

You're more than welcome to a free microchip is the vet is happy to implant it?

Costs covered. She's hopefully in this week, and the chip was included in the price so it's all sorted. ;)

Also, possible home with someone I've known for a number of years. Not well, but he had no qualms about a home check so am hoping to pop round this week sometime.

hows things going for sausage JS?
Title: Re: Appeal for a little Sausage.....
Post by: JackSpratt on August 14, 2013, 00:42:43 AM
Sorry, went rather quiet there.

Things sadly went as expected in terms of Sausages condition and the vet operating made an executive decision regarding how to proceed due to her "stray with a potential but not definite home" status.

The good part is, Sausage herself is recovering and I received a text today telling me it was a thumbs up from a home I checked out for her as the landlord has given permission for her to move in. This lad was talking to me online earlier and assures me he'd go without rather than Sausage wanting for anything and she'll be loved immensely. So the two main criteria to me.

He's more than happy for me to pop and see how she's doing too, which is ace.

The costs were covered but sadly the op was more complicated due to her condition so there's now a little to pay at the vets.

Also in the last couple of days, managed to find a home for an 11 year old torti that had been left at a cattery and was at threat of euthanasia. An old acquaintance of mine felt she'd room for one more (she has three permanents and a part timer ;) ) so she took the rather lovely older lady on. She's already met the other cats with minimum disruption so hopefully things will continue that way.

So, a friend and I went on a "road trip" on Friday to get Sausage to her new home. She'll be in her new Dads room at first as she adapts to surroundings, as there's a collie sharing her home. (She's lived with cats previously with no issue. :) )

Seems Sausage spent the whole evening cuddled up to her new Dad. The whole night too, she apparently only left his side to go to the loo and eat. :)

She'll be getting a post op check at a vet closer to her new home, but seems to be doing well. :)

She really is a lovely little thing. Beautiful angular face, big bat ears, tiny dot of white under her nose. Stunning.

Am delighted for Sausage, and can't thank you enough for sorting this out for her, JS  ;D You're a wonder.  ;D :thanks:

Also wishing good stuff to new slave, he sounds just right for Sausage.  :cat rub: I can't help thinking he's akin to Stevo who joined us recently with his cat Cuddles.  :Luv2:

First time cat Dad. :) He's had cats share his home growing up, but they were family cats. He seems really happy to learn and is so gentle with her, it's lovely. :)

I want to thank everyone that helped with covering costs - that made it possible for her to be spayed, chipped and transported to her new home so she could be adored in the fashion she should be. ;)

So pleased this has all worked out well and Sausage has her forever home with a new daddy  :Luv2:  Did you manage to persuade him to pop on here and let us know how she is getting on?  Also will she be keeping her "sausage" name.

Sam, he's rather shy...but I'll try. :) And yes, she's remaining Sausage; he likes the name. :)

Allison, me too. :)

Dawn, yes, I agree. It wasn't a matter of if, but how far, sadly. An unspayed female of breeding age doesn't stand much chance of not being caught out really does she?

Ahhhh bless him ... he doesn't need to be shy with us.  We might appear to be a bit boisterous but we are all safely tucked away behind our computer screens so he'll be safe  :evillaugh:

We would love him to join up just to let us know how little Sausage is settling in.

Her Dad's the one taking the photos; he's not a fan of cameras I don't think. ;) The fella in the photo is Anya's Dad. :) Things have thankfully calmed down between them now. Seems Sausage was cleaning Anyas ear the other day. :) :Luv:

Sheila, only did what you're doing now. Helping when you can. Hope your charges are doing well. And yes, Sue, it makes me feel relieved that this little lady won't be popping out any more young or fending for herself. :)
