I am new on here. My name is Moira and I live in Cambridge with my husband, David, and four cats. I have a beautiful black moggie called Blacken, who is ten, a fluffy tortoiseshell called Mini, who is seven, and the kittens. The kittens are now about five months. There is Mitzi, the Siamese/Bengal cross, and Flynn, who is an Egyptian Mau of dubious origin. That's them below. I say that Flynn is of dubious origin because he has no papers or anything. However, he is recognisably a silver Egyptian Mau.
What makes us interesting to other cat owners? Well, I have owned a variety of cats for over twenty years and I can honestly say that Mitzi and Flynn have revised my ideas of now intelligent and athletic cats can be. Also, joining forums like this one has alerted me to now much cat ownership has changed. Finally, I am in the process of catproofing my garden, which other cat owners may find interesting.

:welcome: Moira and your beautiful furbabes. Am sneaking on here - supposed to be working, but hoping to catch up again later. Hope yu have lots of fun finding your way round the site. Cat proofed gardens are always of interest - especially if you have piccies, 'cos they help to share ideas about what can be done and with what sort of spaces.

Hi moiramassey.... I have just joined this site .... sadly looking for support because I have just lost my 17year old ginger and white tom.... Bhaji. I also have another tabby.... called truffle... he's 15. What i found interesting about your post was the ages of your cats.... have you found the older ones okay with the kittens. I am hoping to rehome a rescue kitten when I am strong enough... but have been concerned about how Truffle will deal with this. He is quite an active cat still and playful. Anyway :welcome: its seems a lovely site. Vivienne

Hi Vivienne
My sympathy for your loss.
Blacken was 100% delighted to see two kittens when she was three, which was when Mini and her littermate arrived. She was less sure this time and I had a difficult fortnight when I thought she would not accept them. I introduced the kittens gradually, supervised interactions and used Feliway plug-ins. I think she has adapted well, although we are now three and a half months in and Blacken still does not know if she should be hissing at them or playing with them when they come too close.
Mini does not care about other cats.
I always get two kittens at a time, so they can play together. However, I have always taken two kittens from the same litter. Even Flynn and Mitzi, although not related, were brought up together as Flynn was abandoned by his mother.

Hi again Moira, Thanks for your reply. It has made me a bit cautious now as to whether I should get another kitten, I would be unable to get 2. Bhaji was always so great with new members to the family, but then he was only 3 years old himself when i done that. Perhaps ole Truffers is a bit long in the tooth to accept a newbie. The house has been so empty without Bhaji here and my fear is that ( god forbid right now ) anything happen to Truffle and I'll have a an even emptier house to walk into. ( I live on my own ). What to do ???? Anyway thanks again for replying to me. Vivienne

Vivienne, if you have not yet I would start a separate thread about your dilemma, so you can learn from more people's experience.
