Yesterday a pony appeared out the front of my house. A teeny brown and white one and it's tethered to an electricity meter thing. I have yet to see anyone go near it. I took it out a basin of water last night cos it had none, there's plenty of grass for it to eat. I've no idea who owns it but it probably is the travellers.
I rang the USPCA this morning, they're not interested, said it will belong to the travellers. Rang the police, I'm the second neighbour to report it apparently, they don't know what to do about it, they contacted the USPCA themselves and as far as they're concerned the pony isn't being neglected, and the police can't make them do anything until they can prove neglect! I live on a council estate! It's beside a main road, there are kids over annoying it, dogs barking at it, cars beep their horns cos it's such an unusual thing to see, even round here!
I feel so sorry for the poor thing. Does anyone know of any other organisation I can contact to see if anything can be done about it?

I'd contact your local newspaper and radio station
a bit of adverse publicity might stir someone in authority to take some action

That's a good idea! Thank you, Trigger

I can't think of any other suggestions - than contact RSPCA :shy:
Best of luck with this, poor pony :(

If the USPCA and Police can do nothing there is nothing that the RSPCA would do and it would be way out of their area anyway.
Do you have any horse rescue centres near you?
Could this one help or advise:

In view of the fact that you have not seen anybody with the pony, and I know that it is early days as the pony only appeared yesterday do you think that he/she might have been abandoned? If this is the case maybe the pony could go missing onto a neighbouring farm somewhere.
Good luck

How can people be so heartless :(
There is a card up in my vet from someone who wants a horse to keep their horse company in its paddock. It is retired with arthritic injuries and they want it to have a friend. It's in Kent though so probably wouldn't be practical - I have no idea about horses or ponies. (Not even sure if they mix)

Thank you, Yvonne. I've bookmarked that Crosskennan Lane site.
Well it's disappeared again. I'm just waiting for the rain to stop and then I'm gonna go for a walk round the estate, I've got a feeling it hasn't gone but has just been moved out of view of the main road :shify:

All too late now, but by giving it access to water you actually ensured the pony wasn't suffering... which meant the USPCA couldn't act. I know it's all part of being an animal lover but if you (or anyone else) sees an abandoned animal like that, do nothing except report it and monitor. I made the mistake of kitty napping a badly neglected local cat, who was crawling alive with fleas, and Frontlining it once. By the time the RSPCA went to inspect it there wasn't a flea on it. :tired:
