She loves being in the garden and yesterday she looked do pathetic sheltering under a plastic garden chair.
I am considering a Mr Snugs - I thought they only did a cat version but they sell dog ones as well, which would be better with her being "big boned" :innocent:
http://www.snugspetstore.com/fullrange.asp
I like the Katkabins but again the opening is quite small so she probably wouldn't use it.
I have also seen some things that look like a wendy house on Ebay.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
-
Mark, I have something very similar to that cluttering up my back garden. I bought it on-line for the dog but it was too small for him so had to buy another kennel. At present it is not in use and you are welcome to have it. The cat uses it when the dog is in his kennel, but otherwise it is redundant. Feel free to get in touch if you want it.
-
Mark we have our patio umbrella up most weathers at an angle and the kids love to sit uder it
We also have 2 dog kennels that they use to shame the dogs wouldn't entertain them but the cats have beds in them.
-
How about this?

I know about that one - I have various emails from the designer - he said a company were going to produce them but they backed out. He said he didn't mind if people used his design. It's called the catpod :)

I need to speak to OH as it looks like the garden will be landscaped so anything I get will be scrutinised :scared:
I don't think they are too offensive?

I have a rabbit hutch that I've adapted for Big Lad (mainly) to use. I've fitted lino in it, and fixed wood across the front covering two thirds of the opening.

Personally I think cats prefer a shelter like a
enemy dog kennel (or pod!) but with at least a glass roof or clear pvc.....a cat conservatory. I've been looking for something like that to put illegally on our flat roof outside for them "to take the sun". They don't like direct sun or the pebble roof, but may enjoy a lounge in a sunny shelter. Of course would have to be at least 1m2 and always the chance you spend a fortune and they ignore it ;)
anyone seen anything like that, or should I draw up a design and try to flog it?!!! ;)
-
That is the reason I was looking at the dog version of the Mr Snuggles and decided against the Katkabin. I think they like to be enclosed and dry but not in a claustrophobic way.

That looks like a good idea - maybe the Mr Snuggles rabbit hutch would be good. I think they are great for rabbits as they can be cleaned easily. Not sure if they would get too hot in the summer though?

unless it's in a cardboard box about 3x too small for them
A dog kennel with a pvc roof??? would that be doable? presumably you still get the kennels with the fake green removable (lift it up) roof. I wonder if it could be adapted. Don't think any of them get too hot and if they did, Kylie and co would prob just move. You could put a water bowl at the "exit". (now you've got me thinking of sliding door type pvc roof - this could be 1 very expensive cat conservatory ).
-
The Snuggles are made from one piece but if you get a dog one, they have a large opening at the front - also a large roof hangover which is great for shelter from sun or rain. I do like the idea that they won't leak and can be scrubbed out and disinfected :)
http://www.snugspetstore.com/smallkennel.asp
Not pink though :scared:
"unless it's in a cardboard box about 3x too small for them " - exactly :evillaugh:
Annoyingly, the makers are selling them on Ebay but not as BIN - I have some money in my Paypal account I could use. They don't have the option of paypal on their own site. It looks like their prices + postage are what other places sell them for. In fact the cat one works out £27 with postage buying direct but it's £32 from PAH.
-
OH made one out of an big plastic box, I must say it looks very much like catpod. OH has attached a small tunnel and lined it in fleece, there are also blankets inside. Fluffy and Parki our permanent visitors love it as they are not comfortable being in the house fro long periods of time.
The box is a sort of white transparent. We have behind a bench in the bushes so you cannot really see it.
-
For a lightweight summer shelter she could have an Ikea cat tent, I think it would keep light rain out. I'm going to get the boys another one for outside so they can go camping in the garden :evillaugh:

I love this!
-
Thats wonderful ;D
-
That's great for a summer afernoon :) - bit like the Ikea tent really. I would have ordered one yesterday if I had seen them. I really want something a bit more permanent so she can sit out when it is raining.
-
The non IKEA tent can at least be pegged into the ground. Big prob with lightweight cat tents is usually that unless weighed down with a decent sized snoring feline, they are likely to blow away.....plus feline 1 sitting in tent will get pounced on and flattened by feline 2, so you may have to do constant trips to restore tent to its former glory in the garden :)
for weather proof, I'd say stick with the kennel idea - not as cheap as a tent though.
-
Bilbo had an xl 2 room dog kennel as his outdoor house and he loved it :)
-
Oooh, we NEED a kitty camp tent :wow: It's nearly Zooplus order time too so perfect timing ;D
-
here is the kennel I have that Smidgen uses and which I would like to get rid of (he is equally happy using the one the dog lives in, although the dog is not always keen in sharing so tends to get wet if it is raining, lol). See what you think. Smidgen has grown into quite a biggish cat at this stage.
The walls and roof are insulated and there is a vent at the back for cross breezes. It folds flat and comes apart for cleaning.

I've got a kitty camp tent and am thinking of getting two more!
Even RW can fit in it and hes' far from being a dainty kitty :evillaugh:

Hehe! Let me know if you make an order.....do you have a paypal account? ;)

I went for a wooden kennel as they more natural looking, some of the plastic types are really gaudy
I got mine from Zooplus' dog section and lined it with lino and towel, simon loves it ;D

The cat versions of your first link are a princess to clean, i would suggest you take a drill to the bottom and make the drainage hole big enough for dirt to escape ;) unless you dont mind using your fingers

Thanks Jo - I will ask Dennis what he thinks :scared: :evillaugh:
-
all part of the service ... ;D
-
We have a rabbit hutch ... I put a piece of perspex over the wire in the door so they can still see out whilst being nice and warm and snuggly on the feather pillow inside (the pillow is wrapped up in a large plastic bag) and I put an old towel on top.
-
all part of the service ... ;D
Well - thanks anyway Jo but Dennis said he doesn't want a "Wendy House" in the new garden if he is going to spend a lot of money landscaping :tired: - It will have to be a tasteful wooden one :snooty: :evillaugh:
Sorry to seem ungrateful - I think it would have done the job perfectly.
-
Have you asked Dennis for some ideas then he might feel he has some control ;D
-
Yes he said he wants something that won't look out of place, maybe something made from Willow or possiblt build under a bench. The idea is that there will be a pergola and a water feature. He said he has accepted the fact that it will be adding a room and will cost that kind of money. He wanta to get some input from the landscaper. I can sort of see his point. I got it in the ear when I came home with 2 plastic garden chairs "as a temporary measure" last year but as the project has been delaed, they have come in handy - well Kylie thinks so anyway :evillaugh:
-
Good for Kylie ;D
Have you thought of getting one made to your specifications by a local carpenter, then it could fit under a bench as well as looking good.
-
Well Dennis is talking about getting a real pro architect type garden designer in. He said he would rather spend a lot a get a fantastic result than almost as much getting local bodgers in :evillaugh:
Anyway, my service is booked for 11am so got to scoot :evillaugh:
-
:wow: sounds wonderful! when it's done, can we see pics pls?!
-
Yes we definatly want pics ;D
-
Oooh, we NEED a kitty camp tent :wow: It's nearly Zooplus order time too so perfect timing ;D
Hehe! Let me know if you make an order.....do you have a paypal account? ;)
Will be later this month, definitely getting them a tent ;D I do have paypal but it would probably cost more to post it from me to you than if you got one direct from Zooplus as their postage is only £2.90
-
Mark, I think you should build a garden shed and put some lovely cat beds and scratching posts in it along with a sun brolly and some nice furry rugs and lots and lots of toys etc. etc. Heeeee Heeeee :evillaugh: :evillaugh: :naughty: :naughty: :Luv2: :Luv2:

sounds like a good idea if you are going down the landscaped garden approach. I am jealous. But you might remind Dennis that he was talking about this almost 12 months ago, and maybe it is time to translate talk into action ... :evillaugh:

Thanks Helen - didn't think to look at delivery costs. :)
-
To be fair we were taken for fools by the landscaper we tried. After paying her £380 for drawings, she quoted then doubled the price after she started work so we kicked her off the job. We have been really wary as it wasn't the first time we had been taken for fools. I think we are going to pay a real professional company to do it. Now local "tradespeople" are guilty until proven innocent.

Thanks Sam - If we end up going the Mr Snugs route, it will have to be green to be as invisible as possible.. Also a small dog one as the cat one looks a bit small. If you order direct from the maker "Ocean Mouldings", their prices are £10 less than retail + £10 postage. Eg the cat one is £17 + £10 postage so cheaper than ebay (£27 + £7.95 postage)
The wooden one is nice :)
-
I like the wooden one ;D
-
I think that is a good possibility as long as it won't rot. My main concern with wood is hygiene . I'm sure it is warmer than anything else. I can imagine putting a flectabed with a waterprrof cover in there. She would never come in the house :evillaugh:
-
Thats what preserver is for to make sure it doesnt rot ;)
You could line it with lino first to make it easier to wipe up.
-
I like the wooden one ;D
Me too. :)
Mark, in the good weather we rarely see Big Lad in the house. He loves chilling in his "hut."
-

I have to agree Mark on the hygiene side. Anything an animal is using regularly needs to be cleanable, and wood is not. Unless you get stuck in with a scrubbing brush and sand soap, and somehow I have difficulties with that image ...
-
Guess it depends if it will be getting peed in or not!! General dirt can be cleaned up easily from wood.
I wouldnt use one for multiple foster cats to use as germies like ringworm can survive for years but just for one cat should be fine.
Other option is to varnish it
-
I think it would end up Farrow & Balled :evillaugh:

I don't think Kylie would entertain anything witha catflap. She likes to keep watch on the gates at the back of our garden. Any cat intruders beware :scared:
-
OH compromised and said a green one would be OK as it wouldn't stand out. After a few sniffs, she ignored it but when Alice came out, Kylie went straight in before she did :evillaugh:
Excuse the rug on top - it was drying after having simple solution put on it :tired:
