Cat memory vs human memory

As some of you know, Korky has been in France with his humans for the last 6 months.  We arrived home at the weekend and I wondered how he would cope.  Better than we did as it turns out  :)  We pulled on to the drive and I opened the rear car door then opened his cage.  He took a sniff at the air, jumped down and strode confidently up the path to the front door waiting for it to be opened.  He then examined every room in the house (as any self-repecting cat would) before settling down in the kitchen on the spot where we always put his bowls, looking expectantly at the cupboard where we keep his food.  Suitably fed and watered, he wandered off into the utility room to find his litter tray then took advantage of the fact that the lounge door was open to catch a few zzzs on the comfiest armchair.  His routine has been exactly as it was before he went away.
We, on the other hand, have spent 3 nights working in the gloom at the kitchen sink before finally glancing up and noticing the new downlighters that we splashed out on earlier in the year .  To make matters worse it then took us a full 20 minutes to find the switch    And of course there's the time spent opening the wrong drawers and the searching for things we don't actually possess......
