Sorry I didn't notice this thread before, not had a lot of PC time this week. Cats dont like us doing things by the book though, sure they prefer to confuse us!! AT least we know Gypsy is used to other cats, so it should go well.

she is giving Garfield a wide berth at the moment, so i think it will be fine!

Fingers and paws crossed!

Oh, I'm so pleased to hear the news. Sounds as if World War 3 isn't going to break out!! Brilliant! Bet you will be too excited to get much sleep tonight. I didn't the day Jonty arrived as I kept getting out of bed to check on him, or rather just to have another adoring look!

Thanks Dolcetta,
I feel a bit more confident now, this is my first time introducing cats and i'd hoped to do it by the book, but it looks like i'll be playing it by them.

she keeps popping downstairs to see him then disappears off. Garfield isn't hiding which i'm taking as a positive indication, he still lets us stroke his tummy too.

will keep you posted with progress!

Ohhhhh  :welcome: Gypsy!! :Luv: :wow: :Luv:

Well I think all in all things are going a-okay, both of the kitties seem to take the whole situation quite well and calmly so I don't think it is necessary to confine either of them or separate them, let them get used to each other slowly slowly, I am sure they will come around and warm up to each other if you give them time!!

Keep us posted!! ;)

Gypsy is here! however plans to keep her contained in the spare room have been scuppered already as she goes mad at the carpet and managed to sneek out as we came in with food.

So they have already met! there's some grumbling going off from both sides at the moment. they did meet nose to nose as well. gypsy is upstairs and garfield is currently downstairs though she is a quiet confident cat and has already been in every room of the house including the window sills.
she seems to be keeping out of his way but fortunately no violence.

I know it's not ideal, if anything we could probably contain garfield but he also has a carpet scratching habit (bad enough to lift the carpet of it's grippers) but it wouldn't seem fair as he was here first!

She is settling very quickly, she has even jumped up next to me on the couch, i do hope this doesn't set garfield back too much as he's doing most of the grumbling which is understandable.

fingers crossed that they both settle together.

Desley picks up our new girl from the rescue for us tonight, and we collect her tomorrow.

I've been and brought her a carrier (so they now have one each) and a litter tray, i already have spare bowls etc.

I'm so excited i doubt i'll sleep much tonight - so to help i've opened a nice bottle of wine!  :naughty:

Advice for new arrival - It's Tomorrow! (UPDATED)
« Reply #1 on: January 29, 2008, 16:52:29 PM »
I'm collecting Garfield's new friend this weekend.
I've been reading up on introductions but there are a few things I need to set straight in my mind.

Is it a good idea to use the same carrier as Garfield to get her used to his smell when I collect her?
(she will have her own anyway)

Should I let them see each other or should I make sure Garfield doesn't see her until we'e ready - i.e set the carrier down whilst shes in there and let them sniff etc?

I am fully expecting it to take at least a week if not more, though it may be less.

Any advice much appreciated
