i think that petition is ridiculous i mean ive got a cat that we took in from outside and weve only just got her to use the litter tray well only if she is really desperate but most of the time if you dont want to let her out and she needs the toilet she head butts any door she can find so let me way up the options let my cat poo outside or let her head butt the door so much that she could cause harm to herself no contest id rather let her go outside
The world is a dark place because of negativity so lets brighten it up with some possitivity

I think it's very sad he's started up a petition! Why not just throw water at the cats when he sees them come into his garden, the cats will most likely soon get the message and stop going in.

What a prick!

I pity the wildlife as well who cannot read Do not poo in my gardensigns. I bet he is a real barrel of laughs down at his local. Still he is described as a heating engineer or similar so the cat and animals loving people who live in his area can make a point of finding another one if they so wish.

I wouldnt like another cat pooing in my garden, but this is going too far. Just people with nothing to do.

You dont see a cat stood in the middle of the street having a crap do you, would they rather this? How are they going to know who owns the cat?

yes Gill it was something like "well the thing is we want to change the fence and add wire to the top to stop the cats getting out"
"you can't keep cats in"
"well we want to try after Algie getting killed"
"you can't keep cats in, I've seen them run up 10 ft walls"
"well I do know people who have"
"it won't work"
"and anyway you have such a lovely garden its not really fair on you, I know you have problems with other cats soiling in the garden I don't want to add to the problem"
"its a good idea"

on the other side of the coin it is a fantastic way of bring neighbours around to the cat proofing project you had in mind, it was the excuse we used with our neighbour, oh but you have such a lovely garden, and he was instantly supportive of the new fence topped off with prison style wiring!!

Hi folks,

Reminds me of some years ago when I lived in a house with a small garden and had two outdoor cats. I had the misfortune to have an obnoxious Spanish woman for a neighbour whose attitude towards animals was best summed up when she once told me "animals are far less important that humans" (cue for blood-boiling outrage outburst from me) , or maybe I should say her comments were "like a red rag to bull" as that might be more ethnically appropriate!  ;D.

She "cat-proofed" her garden by putting up 8 foot high wood fences and topping them with wire in an effort to stop my cats "pooping" in her garden    and it provided a constant source of amusement watching my two nimbly hopping, skipping and jumping their way around the obstacles like a couple of highly trained Royal Marine Commandos, jump down for a quick "poop" and then carry on their patrols  ;D. I've spent many a happy few minutes watching them defeat her defenses with consumate ease, oh happy days  ;D . I think that they never "pooped" anywhere else, I think that they knew where they weren't welcome and did it out of pure spite as they never pooped in any other of my neighbours' gardens, I love the cat sense of humour  ;D

Cheers

Leigh

All I can say is hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm how do you get your cat to go in your garden as opposed to anyone elses with out shutting them in?

As someone with indoor cats, I'm not the best person to answer that!  Create a sand/soil pit in your own garden?   I'm not saying that it can be guaranteed cats will toilet in their own garden.  Just that perhaps cat owners should try.  I have seen articles in cat mags about creating cat friendly gardens including toilet areas.

I agree people should try to encourage their cats to toilet in their litter trays or own garden but the point is, its nature. Cats will try to mark what they see as their own territory which has nothing to do with human boundaries like fences, walls etc, Its like starting a petition to stop overnight frost as it might kill off young plants  :evillaugh:

I grew some great tomatoes on a patch my cats use to poo in - a great crop.
Before the student invasion, I had an old, cat-tolerant neighbour who was a keen gardener, but who nevertheless tolerated my cats pooing in his rose beds. He had beautiful rose bushes!
As for children: the dangers of cat feaces is over-rated. Conditions like toxiplasmosis are best caught when in childhood, as it confers lifelong immunity, thereby preventing a woman catching it in the first months of pregnancy (she had it as a child, so it won't affect her unborn).

This guy is obviously bonkers.
I also dislike bird fanciers who blame cats for the decrease in song birds. Blame pesticides, which poison their natural food; and changes to habitats; or magpies. Bird catching is a specialised skill for cats; some are very good at it, but the majority stick to rodents. Cats have to knock a bird out of the air as it takes off - not easy.

As with many of the comments added to the article: what next? Banning birds from pooing on washing? Or slugs from eating his plants?
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

I useed to watch Kocka punish my horrible neighbours in London.

They used to scare her and one day they sneaked into my garden and depositted some cats poo in a kitchen towel on her bed. She used to run into the house if she heard them come out after that.

There were so many cats in the area which roamed all the gardens it most likely wasnt Kocka.

However I watched her one day not long after in broad daylight sneak into their garden,,,,,,,,,,,well tip of weeds 3ft high and next door but one..............and she stopped at the boundary looked around, and then went and did her business in their garden. She then rushed back into her own garden and sat in the middle watching.

It was so very funny and she was just so smart and such a character.

I think anyone who starts a petiton like this is a total idiot and deserves all the comments that have been made, sorry but thats my opinion.

Well I'm going to be the odd one out here.

Although I don't agree with the petition as I think that's a step too far, I wouldn't describe him as an idiot and I don't think any cat owner should dismiss people like that as idiots.  It is very annoying for people who don't have pets to have to put up with cat poo in their garden.  It's not unreasonable to want to enjoy your own garden without having to go around getting rid of cat poo from the neighbour's cats every day.  I have a friend whose dog died a few months ago and now all the local cats poo in her garden.  She has a 3 year old son and is worried about him playing in his own garden because of it.   I do think cat owners should do everything they can to get their cats to go to the toilet in their own gardens.  I know it's not possible to control everything they get up to when out of sight, but we should at least try.   There are enough anti cat people in the world without cat owners antagonising them.

Sermon over  ;)

How funny!! Where else are cats supposed to poo when outside?!?! I'll give him a surprise and go and poo in his garden
For a man to truly understand rejection, he must first be ignored by a cat.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.
