Have spoken to Teckels and locally people have been bringing them in supplies and they are co-ordinating with other rescues in the area and passing on food etc.

There water was not turned off in the end so they thank us for the offer of help but are OK.

So I guess that is the end of our proposed help mission cos locally despite what the situation is people locally have pulled together and supported their animal rescues, which is great news.

I have rang them but only got an answer phone, so dont know situation yet.

They have office hours that stop at 1600 and no contact by email grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Ok I am going to contact Teckels and see what they need. They have an appeal on their site, are a registered charity.

They are based just off M5 at Junction 13 so is nearer than Tewksbury.

They seem to need a lot of basic things:

Towels, sheet and blankets as we unable to wash our current bedding and will run out soon.
Water containers.
Bottles of water.
Dog and cat food.
Donations of money or cheques so we can buy other essential supplies.
Volunteers to help collect supplies

Maybe we can help with Cat Food if they need it still and I am willing to drive it there as long as they are based where it says and can get there cos of weather.

Thanks for good thoughts, the sun is now out! There was a small feature on Teckels animal sanctuary on The One Show BBC 1 this evening. It seems they are housing lots of pets from flooded families.

I didnt ask Ruth cos we are not I believe in a position to help.

They had loads of food and litter cos they had a delivery before the flood and seems like they possibly have some deal with Whiskers.

I live just off the beginning of the M4 in Wales and can get to the Severn Bridge easily but we need to be careful if we decide to deliver stuff that the routes are passable and that we will not be intefering with worrk going on in areas.

Just have looked at the map and my journey towards Tewsbury would be about anothe 40 miles along the M5 to Junction 9 which is nearest point to Tewksbury. H

However tparts of the M5 was under water and more rain is forecast.

I will ring Tewksbury to see what help they require in terms of supplies. I have a Mondeo so it should take quite a bit.

Cheltenham was quiet badly hit at the weekend wasnt it ?
We were due to go to Cheltenham last saturday to see some friends in a show at the theatre but decieded not to go.

Its good news that the water is going down, but some villages are still completely cut off like Sandhurst. We are fine in Cheltenham apart from the water shortage but its nothing compared with what some of our furry friends are going through.

My first though was for all the animals that have been affected by the floods (my OH thinks i'm mad) Property that has been damaged is sad but "things" can be replaced, animals lives cannot.

There must have been so many cats that were "out and about" when the floods hit. Then theres the live stock and what about the poor foxes whos "holes" would have become flooded .

I saw on the news last night that councils have said that water must be given to people first and animals/pets must come second.

according to my map none of those places are along my line of march, but if people down south want to send stuff up north, I can maybe drop it off to someone closer along the route?? Thoughts please.......

Yes I think it probably is but I suspect they are all full and that the real problem is space and temporary or fostering.

The question is whether there is anything we can do to help and if we can what?

The situation seems to be bad and likely to get worse over next couple of days.

My brain is completely dead at moment, it sometimes comes to life during the night but if anyone has any ideas please post them.

I saw cages with dogs in on the news and also a black cat in half its carrier looking really sad. Everywhere seems to be full and there is obviously a problem with supplies.

Teckels animal shelter are desperate for help in the Gloucestershire area, you can find them on www.teckels.org. They have taken in many cats and are appealing for bedding, water and cat food, I am sure they would be glad of donations.

Oh winnie can you tell us if food. litter are getting through and are CP HQ helping with extra costs?

Is anyone co-ordinating rescue of cats, we have been told that they are being collected and caged in a hall some where.

As we dont know the area at all any info would be helpful.

My mother saw something on TV but it was about sheep and pigs and tthe piglets had a problem cos they couldnt get water to them.

I live in Cheltenham and its absolute chaos in the area. There is a very depressed mood about and so much worry about getting fresh supplies of water. Thankfully at last more seems to be done for our furry friends and I believe temp. Kennels are being set up for people who have to leave their pets somewhere. I think one of these places is Gloucester Leisure Centre. I have also heard that water is going to be taken to farms as there is a great risk of many of these animals dying. It seems that the rescue centres are working flat out to rescue animals. Its a really heartbreaking situation. I am sure that the rescue centres in this area would welcome donations to help with their efforts.

It bothers me that alot of people will have just left their bunnies and piggies without a second thought. I saw one news report of a woman returning home to find her 2 cats had drowned

Unfortunately the floods are affecting animal s from many of the places flooded. As we all know many pets have lost their lives but we are receiving numerous calls from people who are having to be temporarily re-housed and are asking us to care for the cats for up to 1 yr as they cannot take the cats with them to the homes offered. Of course that is impossible for us as we always have cats waiting to come in, if we had a single space it would have been used by one of those cats.

I can only think that either the rescues are in a place that is dry or they are so inundated they havent had time to tell anyone they need help.

I find it strange........or do I...........that CP HQ has not put some kind of message on their site.

I do not know in a situation like this whether CP HQ would help out with funding but I dont know how they will be getting on with food, litter and water.

Lets hope they do not have any problems.
