Very tricky one, some of the people on there will continue to let their cats get pregnant as they can make money on it, others have had accidents and dont seem to know how else to find homes for the kittens. I think the prices will start coming down as rescues will have more in, but there are always people who can't get a cat through a rescue (Whether for a 'good' reason or not - i.e. people with kids under 5 would struggle round here), who will pay. Would be lovely to see an end to these ads, but not sure it ever will happen.

I have no idea which advert I'm looking at in that link, but I have to say it always disturbs me the amount of animals that are up for sale due to an "accidental pregnancy" or because the owners are moving.

I hope Bobbys health improves and am glad he's receiving the love he deserves.

Im in shock how many hundreds of cats dogs kittens and puppys r for sale on that awful site

ive just seen an ad from a bloke saying a familey came over to view his pups and wanted to buy one when he left the room to get the food the pups were on to show the familey the whole familey made off with his 2 puppies

I think it's a genuine dilemma as there are good reasons for both buying and not buying. In general I'd prefer people not to buy as getting good money for their kittens is what leads many people to continue letting their cat get pregnant. Reputable breeders don't make money out of breeding, but lots of people spend nothing on their pregnant cats and their kittens - no vet checks, flea/worm treatment etc - and they try to sell them as soon as they're weaned. That way it's all profit. If they can sell 4 kittens for £80 each that's a nice little earner for them and they will only stop doing it when they can no longer sell the kittens. Sometimes by saving one kitten we're sealing the fate of the next litter.

But it's hard to know what to do as I'm not sure I'm in favour of banning ads since there are often genuine people selling kittens. They may have been irresponsible to allow their cat to get pregnant in the first place but sometimes people realise that and just want to find good homes for their kittens but dont' want to advertise them as free to good homes because of the potential interest from those who want to use them in dog fighting etc. I suppose the ideal is for a rescue to do the rehoming but the kittens stay with the owner until they can be rehomed.

Either way I do hope this little kitten grows up strong and healthy. He certainly seems to be in good hands now.

It's easy to misunderstand things when all you have is the printed word, with no intonation or body language. Such misunderstandings usually seem to occur most often when feelings are already running high , as now, quite rightly, over this poor kitten.

If you read my post properly Forever, I did say if they pay dear for them, "hopefully" they would get good homes. I do Parrot Rescue and peeps can pay a few hundred for them but they are not always good homes as you say.

But money isnt a problem to some people Dawn they can afford to pay a lot for em and they will still treat em bad and neglect them
for example pedigree dogs cost a good few hundred and look how many of them end up in rescues all over the country

Sadly, if kittens were 10 a penny, peeps wouldn't be asking extortianate prices for them and getting it.

I know round here they have been hard to get hold of but the last couple of weeks, rescues are filling up with them........I've got 3 pregnant one's in now and the amount of phone calls I've had, they will be rehomed in no time.

The only good thing about people paying dear for them, they hopefully will get good homes.

I.ve just complained to name removed who allowed this to happen.

there is no shortage of kittens in rescue - hence my thread in rescue and rehoming with our 8 black and white kittens.
I picked up a black kitten on thursday - she is full of worms, very thin and lethargic. since dumping her worm load she is getting there now.

kittens like her are the ones left over that can't be sold.

People will only breed their cats though if the demand is there and sadly it is. It's a catch 22 at the moment, more people are getting their cats spayed so there is a shortage of kittens in some areas, breeders can name their price and sadly peeps are going to pay it. The only way to stop it is if a law came in to say ALL PETS have to be spayed and neutered or they have to be licensed to breed.

I know what you're saying Ang.......I have given the same advice to others but it is hard when it's staring you in the face. As far as the kitties I'm referring to, hopefully this will be their last litters if my plan works

We actually bought Kara, our shepherd from a breeder.....she wasn't a pup though and had been returned as her owners had split up. She was in appalling condition, underweight and had been in the vets numerous times. Her back legs are deformed and she walks on her hocks.........the bull

the breeder came out with trying to convince us she was top quality and a good dog, I think he thought we landed with the fairies

The only reason we really bought her was we knew he would just get rid and the problems she had, she would have been pushed from pillar to post. We have found her to be an owners nightmare but we love her to bits and at least she gets the care and love that she needs. We did actually report this guy to the breeders association as he was a total

and I did let him know what I thought of him.

Tan, I agree with your post, ads should be banned, all animals should be spayed and neutered unless they have a license and hopefully all this money making and lack of care will stop..........we can live in hope

It's one of the worse things in the UK, where you have awful people having a cat or any other animal just to bredd from and make money.
The animals are treated terribbly.

There should be no live animal ads allowed so these people do not have an easy way to advertise and more importantly there should be a law that animals can only be adopted from good rescues and breeders.
Until this happens there will always be awful people using aminals for personal gain.

This little one Bobby hopefully if he pulls through has a chance of a loving life with caring slaves. Susan has kindly joined us to let us know how Bobby gets on.

its cruel to the ones they have, but you are only encouraging this breeding. you have a couple of this next lot, a few others go to homes, maybe one or two end up being dumped or given to a rescue and the two queens are pregnant with the next lot.

the only way to stop it is not to buy.

and in the meantime the rescues are struggling.

What a beautiful kitten. I'm sure he lady saved his life. I understand that the breeder will just breed more but for the time being, this one is saved.

I can't believe she would buy a kitten without looking at it! Surely she'd have seen it was small and sickly before she bought it?

It's a difficult situation - on the one hand she may have, indeed, saved the kitten's life. On the other, people who sell kittens for extortionate prices and don't look after them will continue to do so as long as someone is prepared to pay for them. It's only when people stop paying these people that they will give up. I dont think there's anything wrong with selling a kitten through an ad - after all, however they came about not everyone who has kittens can get them into a rescue - but those doing the buying need to make sure they're not paying over the odds and that the kitten is in good health.

shes just emailed me bk saying the vet said he was very dehydrated and weak
he keeps having awful runny poohs
the vet gave him an injection and gave the woman some solution stuff to give him 3 times aday
he is eating now but he still has the runs
the lady said she has him wrapped in a warm blanket held close to her chest as the sound of her heartbeat seems to calm him
she doesnt know where the seller lives as she met the woman at the end of the road
and the woman handed her over the kitten in a towei
there was one other kitten in the litter
i dread to think what has happend to him

update on kitten bought ???

a lady bought a kitten for 80 quid last week it was wrapped in a towel she kept him wrapped in the towel to keep him calm in the car and when they got him home she saw he was the tinyiest sickly weak little kitten she had seen
theyve took him to the vets twice and the vet was appauled they bought him the vet thought theyd found him on the street
they dont know if he will make it yet or not
theres a couple of photos of the kitten on the ad
they upset me a lot

poor little babe
heres praying he will make it
ive emailed the poster telling her to report the peeps to rspca asap
