I genuinly do think it helped yes, I kept it in the kitchen all the time he was down there, then moved it upstairs when he was under the bed, and he did seem to be calmer, or at least come round quicker than he had done previously  ;D

Money well spent I think  ;D

He's fine thanks Mary, seems to have pretty much settled back to his normal routine.  He's at least staying in the lounge now in the evening and not disappearing back up stairs as he was at the weekend and beginning of this week

Yay, its all finished!!!!  Well the decorating bit is, still got to re-assemble the second bedroom but hopefully that will get done over the weekend.

Poot's still not quite right, but is definitely better than he was on day 1 which is a good sign  :Luv2:

Soon be over thank God.

Slice some onions and put on a plate in the middle of the room to get rid of the smell of paint Clare.  I always do that cos I get migraines if I don't.

Morning hunnies

Well works are more than halfway done now thank goodness!  The main bedroom is virtually finished, just a bit of painting to do at the top of the wall when the plaster is fully dry, but furniture is back in place again, so its a bit more like normal, although stinks of paint lol!

Reckon they should be finishing on Friday all being well.

Poot still hates it, doesn't like being couped up in the kitchen by himself, and as soon as he's let out he dives up to the bed and hides underneath for a while.  However it only took him about an hour to come down again by himself last night, and although he wouldn't really settle, he was at least out exploring which I guess is a good sign.

He was mega cuddly last night, spent all night snuggled up next to me in bed for reassurance I guess, but I didnt mind  :Luv:  :Luv2:

Hopefully all will be OK, not sure if the Felliway is doing anything yet, but he seems to be a bit less stressed than on day 1.

Thanks again for all your support my lovelies, its so hard seeing your babies scared

Amber hates the intercom going off and goes and hides under the bed until who ever has visited has gone. Sometimes she decides to come out and have a nosy but usually theres no sign.

Today I had a couple of workmen fixing my tv and she hid until they went then explored where they'd been standing and stuff. Ive had to teach myself to just act normally though because if I start on the 'you can come out now, they've gone routine' that makes her think theres something she should worry about. Obviously I cant 'speak' cat but thats how it seems to me. Today I just said oh hello sleepy when she appeared and started putting things back where they live. Unfortunately she hadnt realised the cat tent had moved until I put it back and she levitated about a foot in the air and fluffed up...... then glared at me for laughing  :naughty:

I hope Poot is less scared soon.
love

I'm not sure Mary hun, he was just wary as soon as he walked in the front door, but was not too bad.    Think it was having a stranger camping out overnight in the lounge that freaked him, maybe unsettled the usual balance of just me and John in the house.

Trying to break his fear cycle gradually, but its ever so hard

Aaaw poor Pooty  :Luv2:

Clare, how about a splash of lavender oil around the house , that's cheap enough.

I think while the workmen are there you could maybe put a radio on for Poot and leave him some nice treats and a piece of your clothing so he can smell you.  No idea really just suggestions chuck.

Did something happen when your friends were visiting to make Poot be like this?  Why all of a suden bothered about the bell?

Good luck.

Bless him. It's horrible when things have to be done on the house. Our landlord fitted a new kitchen last year and it was awful watching the cats freak out no matter how much easier we tried to make the proceedings.

Lots of   to Poot (and of course his worried Meowmy).
Our girls are quite nervous too but when nextdoor had an extension built they did get used to the noise much quicker than I ever imagined they would.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the replies

I bought a Feliway diffuser on the way home from work this evening, so that's now plugged in upstairs as that's where he tends to hide when he can, his safe place I guess!!

He's just come downstairs for the first time since I got home, so he must be feeling a wee bit better, just need him to take it all at his own pace I think  :Luv:

Ella and Effie run when the doorbell goes. They hate the man from tesco too. They would peer though the bannister to see who it was! The park that backs on to our house was being landscaped last year and the noise was terrifying, it sounded like it was in the house at times and the girls freaked. When it was over, they soon recovered so it is just something that Poots will be affected with short term x

Not really Sam, I did make him a nice squidgy place in the corner with my dressing gown, and put his donut bed up on the worktop as well in case he felt too exposed on the floor.  I did ask J to put the radio downstairs, but not sure if he remembered.  With the kitchen being right at the bottom of the house its only the front door noise he would hear.

I literally don't have any idea what we do tomorrow afternoon though when the guy comes to fix the boiler .......... in the kitchen

Maybe Poot will have to get re-acquainted with the bathroom until they've gone  :-[

My lot are all terrified of the doorbell and only Rossi likes visitors .. the others go upstairs and hide.

I would make sure Poot has somewhere comfy to hide while you are out ..... Could you clear out a bottom cupboard and put a nice comfy towel and/or a jumper in there for him to snuggle up with.  Whenever anyone comes to my house Zephyr retreats to the safety of the top shelf of the airing cupboard.  It might be worth leaving a radio on in the room as well to help distract him from the strange noises.
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

When Chelsea was freaked out following the dog attack, I used Feliway plug-in (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs in the rooms used most often) and Zylkene (once a day) as she was afraid of her own shadow inside the house for quite a while. I think it did help her - well got her down from on top of the kitchen cupboards quite quickly.

So that may be worth a try   - Think you may find Zylkene and Feliway cheaper on-line - was quite expensive from my vets.

Thanks guys.

Where would I use the plug in, in the kitchen where he stays most of the time?  We're a 3 storey terrace with no doors between any of the floors, so to cover the whole house would cost a fortune  :-[

I'll look into Zylkene, is that from the vets or can you get it in say Pets at Home too?  Sorry, probably a daft question

I'll see how is this evening, think we've got the decorator with us until Thursday/Friday as far as they can tell me

Claire can you get some Zylkene and pop it on to his wet food seems to take the nervous edge off the ferals after I have trapped them also maybe some Rescue remedy in his water bowl and a Feliway Pluin for a couple of months may help dear Pooty

If all else fails disconect the doorbell and don't have visitors

This is so sad and understand cos when in London they knocked the walls and ceilings down above me, no warning , nothing and the banging , noise and dust lasted for 6 months.

Luckily Kocka and I spent all day outside cos it was the very hot summer of 2003.

Afraid I cant give any recommendations and feel so sorry for Poot
