Such a shame they haven't been able to find out what caused it, but at least they are fine now. Snowy had raised liver enzymes too, she hated the prescription food (they actually recommended k/d than l/d), so I opted to feed her what she wanted regardless.

We're still not sure what caused Alfie and George to be ill but thankfully nothing else has happened since.  I've had Georges blood results back today and he has raised liver enzymes and the red blood cell count is elevated as well.  Re the liver enzymes, they are significantly higher than they should be but this could be down to age rather than the effects of the illness.  George lived on the streets for about 8 years and was in really poor condition when I took him in, he's now about 12 so it's possible it's down to his age.  Basically they said the only thing I can do really is to change his food to Hill's ld which I've got in anyway.

Im glad they're both home and well now. Just a thought about youre boiler though. If it was leaking CM then you would all be ill but maybe the flu is blocked or on those nights the wind was in the direction to blow stuff back in. Im saying this as my parents had their boiler moved and it was fine but whent he wind blew a certain way it blew the fumes in through the kitchen window and they ended up having to get that window sealed (or move the boiler again lol)
I hope it never happens again for you

Poor George has been back in the vets today for blood tests, it turns out they didn't do him when he was in the other day  :censored:  Not sure if anything will show up now so I'm pretty peed off, he should have had bloods taken and sent off to check red blood cells etc.  I won't get the results back now until next week, hopefully nothing else will go wrong in the meantime.

Me too Susanne, I have a horrible feeling that Pingu's death was related and nothing to do with her eating curry........I'm just keeping a close eye on them all at the moment.

I hope everything is OK. I know they used to take canaries down the mines and if they died, they knew their was carbon monoxide gas present. Please lets hope it's not that. If possible I would turn the boiler off and have an emergency check done tomorrow.

I'm sure you will do the best for your babies anyway - its scary

Oh God Dawn.  Can't believe this - have just caught up with the thread.  After everything else, to have this to worry about.  What a puzzle.  But yes, I echo what everyone else has said about a Carbon Monoxide alarm - or getting a check from a corgi registered Gas Engineer.

Dawn, glad the boys are home.

Do get the boiler checked as they only have a life of around 20 years and should be serviced annually by a registered plumber or boiler engineer.

We found this to our horror last year when the man came to service the boiler the day after we moved in instead of a quick routine hour he spent 8 hours and replace most moving parts as it had never been serviced and was dangerous fortunately Robin ran a power station and was is used to somewhat larger boilers the ones that give us the electricity and knew something wasn't quite right!

Also check any flues that may have something in them, we had a starling in the flue of the lof burner sepite netting over the chimney cause great fun till we got it our the conservatory door after evicting 30 cats in full hunt mode!

Yeah, we will do Lynn, hubby doesn't think it's that but it won't do any harm checking.  Sean also said the same.......it could be the boiler or possibly something else, it's a worry.  I'm going to have to monitor them all now but the worrying thing is how quick it's been happening and it's usually middle of the night  :'(  I should have Georges other blood results through in the next couple of days.

I got a lovely surprise when I took Minnie to the vets.........Sean had taken both Alfie and George so my boys are both now home  :blow kiss:  He was a bit flustered when he arrived  :evillaugh:  They hadn't shut up from the minute he put them in his car, at one stage he had to pull over and put his hazards as Alfie was making such a racket, he thought he was dying.  He got out and checked him and he was fine, he just didn't like being in the carrier.

I'm a bit worried about how much my vet bill is going to cost, I daren't ask them    The main thing is they both seem to have responded to treatment, I'm not sure why George is being kept in the oxygen tank but Sean is dealing with him today so I'll ask him when I see him later.  I'm just so pleased Alfie can come home......I really thought Sean was going to say they'd be keeping him in  :'(

What awful news, keeping everything crossed for them both.

Is your boiler in the kitchen and does it come on during the night?  That might explain the coincidence with the timings, you can get carbon monoxide testers on the high street (Argos etc).  Your local fire station might do them too as I know they do smoke alarms etc

Oh Dawn, such a worrying time - especially as no-one can work out why its happening, the boiler is an obvious one - but you would be experiencing symptoms too I would have thought. Hope you can find out what it is, and hope both cats recover well.

None are related and it was so sudden with all of them.  Sean was saying with Pingu because she was brain damaged, it may have hit her quicker........George wasn't as bad as Alfie but I got him in quicker but the strange thing was it was 3 o'clock in the morning again.  They've both been blood tested, Alfies haven't shown anything up, they are doing a complete profile on George, his will be tested in the surgery and also sent off to check the red blood cells etc.  I will update when I hear anything else.  From what Sean was saying I'm hoping he still lets Alfie home......he wants to check him again and then decide.  I've got to take Minnie in later as well cos one of the little horrors has bit her on her ear  :censored: She's going to need a jab and antibiotics  :'(

oh my god dawn how bloody awful !! were any of them puss's related ???

and yes your boiler or gas cooker etc basically anything that burns can put out carbon monoxide so apart from getting them all tested you should buy a carbon monoxide alarm, they look like smoke alarms but this is very worrying for your health aswell.

i once had a cat with strange symtoms (at work i mean) and her name was esther, deborah the vet was nearly sure it had been carbon M poisoning but for the life of me i cannot remember her presenting symtoms but she kept coming in for ages and ages after it (it had been in my earlier time working so i just amnt too sure of it)

Fingers now crossed for george.

ps is there a blood test they could sent to test levels of carbon monoxide ??
